Both are very nice, they are bigger than some of the other OT gyms (Cupertino for example). Front Desk - Everyone is very friendly and nice, they seem to quickly remember people's names. Instructors - I typically go during the day so Sean and Shannon are my favorite instructors, but all of them are good. Workouts - I often go to the UpperBody strength workouts but I also enjoy the regular OT classes where you do some weight training/TRX, rowing, and treadmill. I've had knee issues so you can also ride the stationary bike instead of treadmill if preferred. Bathrooms - very clean They have cubbies and lockers to hold your purses/backpacks and coats etc. I highly recommend OT, they can make adaptations to the workout if for example, you can't do step-ups on to the weight bench, etc. Parking - you park in the apartment building garage, I only had an issue getting parking there once.

Perfect to exit out and be two doors down from the entrance. The location is clean and bright. Lobby includes a front desk and some benches for members and guests. There is also a wall of cubbies and as you walk around the corner there is a wall of lockers plus two restrooms and two showers. The studio itself is a good size with 13 stations. The floor stations wrap around in an L-shape and the rowers are directly behind the treads. They also have 2 bikes and a strider. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I enjoyed taking class with Coach Sean. I'd definitely go back to this studio when traveling.

The day that I went was Lunar New Years so they also had these little red envelopes with prizes inside such as a buddy pass or 15% off an item, which I thought this was creative and loved that they did something in honor of the new year. The class itself was super intense but definitely worth it! My friends and I got Amanda as our instructor and she was super motivating which helped me throughout the 45 minute class.

Got a pretty good workout but every time my friend and I needed to take a deep breath we gagged and regretted it. Instructor was nice, aesthetic was spot on reformers were still pretty new. Instructions for the moves could've been more detailed. Also such a bummer that there's no bathroom. Strangely, there's a section that has a mirror and toiletries but again no bathroom. There are lockers for you to place your belongings, but you can't lock it and there's no way to open the locker door after you close it because there is no handle, so an employee told us to use our nails to open it... I would return again if the hygiene was improved and instructors were more precise with their directions.

I looked into going back to my old luxury gym, but the price had increased by 50 percent after I left, so that was no longer an option. Decades ago, I had belonged to a low-end gym and I didn't want that experience again, so I decided to find whether there was something in the middle. This particular Crunch Fitness has several positives and a few negatives. First off, this place is a gym. Don't look for childcare, towel service, fancy toiletries, eucalyptus spray, hair dryers, jacuzzi, or steam room. It's very much a gym, and the owner focuses on that. (All Crunch Fitness centers are franchises). It has so many machines. For example, many gyms have one or two multipulley weight machines. This Crunch has six. It has five kick boxing bags, numerous cages, and a plethora of cardio equipment: Stairmasters, rowers, treadmills, recumbent bikes, upright bikes and spinner bikes. In the daytime, almost all types of equipment are available and it's relatively quiet. In the evenings, particularly from 6:00-8:30, it's very loud and some cardio equipment may not be around. In addition, the music is pumped high and it can be especially loud when a class is going on. The group exercise room doesn't have a door. In addition, the outside door gets propped open to vent during large classes. A big part of any gym is the people who work out there. I've noticed that people are very conscious about wiping equipment down and replacing weights. While the gym doesn't have a jacuzzi or steam room, it does have a sauna. It's infrared, and I'm not sure of the IR's significance. It feels like any other sauna, but it lacks the woody scent. I don't know why; maybe it's just because it's new. The Winchester Crunch Fitness's rest and recovery area is better that that at other Crunches. Instead f being just a section set apart from the rest of the gym, it's a separate room with black walls. This keeps it quiet and more relaxing. The recovery area has Novatech compression devices, Hydromassage, and Human Touch massage chairs, but don't be deceived! The Human Touch Massage Chair do not feel anything like human touch. Basically, they're like the mall massage chair only they also have enclosures for hands and feet. The Hydromassagers are excellent. One thing that sets this particular gym apart from others, including other Crunches, is that it has individual changing rooms instead of locker rooms. The shower rooms labeled disabled all have urinals, so guys tend to use them. Those rooms are mammoth, but I'm OK using the smaller rooms. I think the owner installed the individual changing rooms as part of its no judgement philosophy, and in doing so, the situation ended up nicer for everyone. I do wish the bathrooms were cleaned more often. They aren't filthy or anything, and they don't have paper overflowing or anything like that, but it would be good to see some janitorial staff going through every hour or so to mop up and sanitize. All-in-all, it's a good place to get down to the business of staying in shape.

I toured several gyms in the area--Crunch Fitness - San Jose Winchester, City Sports Club (formerly…read more49ers Fit), Anytime Fitness, and Vim + Vigor Fitness (formerly Fitness 19)--and Crunch was the clear winner for me. City Sports felt too dark and had a bit of an intimidating vibe--mostly already-fit people and I didn't see many women in the free weight area. I also didn't love that everything faces the mall windows, and the inability to pay for a full year upfront was a downside. Anytime Fitness was convenient with 24/7 access, but it felt too small for my needs and was on the pricier side. Vim + Vigor was also expensive and consistently busy. Crunch, on the other hand, just felt right. I did a 3-day pass and had a really comfortable experience. No one staring, no awkward vibes--just a solid, welcoming environment. There's plenty of equipment: machines, free weights, a HIIT area, and circuit training options. The studio space is large and offers a good variety of classes. The front desk staff were also a standout--friendly and genuinely helpful. Denise gave me a tour, and she was great--very nice, motivating, and easy to talk to. We had a good chat, which made the whole experience feel even more welcoming. Trevor is helpful as well and has kept in touch over email. Yes, it gets busy during peak times (I went around 4:30-5:00 PM), but let's be real--this is the Bay Area, every gym is busy then. Big bonus: the recovery area. Red light sauna, red light therapy, hydro massage beds, and massage chairs--honestly, that alone sets it apart. Also worth noting: instead of a traditional locker room, they have individual bathroom/shower setups, which gives you more privacy. Another plus--Crunch lets you pay for the full year upfront, which can save you a little money... and let's be honest, we could all use that right now. Only downside across the board--none of these gyms have a pool or hot tub, which would've been nice. Overall, Crunch on Winchester strikes the best balance of comfort, equipment, and value. It made working out feel doable again--and that's saying something. It is closer to home than the others which is a bonus as well. I plan on joining Crunch this week

Plenty of machines, not the best layout with cardio and a workout room / lockers upstairs and the weights downstairs. No free weights in the workout room so you'd have to lug them up the stairs and back down when done. Everything seems really old? Like someone collecting gym machines and when they get a new one, they just push the other one over a couple feet... It makes the space feel disjointed and chaotic. I don't know if I'll ever get the smell out of my nose... gym bro / gals, socks, sweat, and air freshener to attempt to mask it. Also, I've never had so many people interrupt my workout mid set to ask to use what I'm in the process of using... I understand working in when it's packed. But it wasn't, it was off times and people were still interrupting to take things... Very odd sense of entitlement, just wait 10 minutes until I'm done please. Example, I'm hip thrusting on the platforms and someone asks to squat on the rack in front of me on 12 pm on a Friday... the squat rack over opened up 1 minute after they started their set...? I feel like that's just the norm and culture here which I'm not a fan of. Also guy to girl ratio is off the charts at like 15:1. No comment there. Again understand why some people like it, but it was a little outdated and the vibe was off for me.

It's best to buy an 8-pack good for 8 classes (duh!) for $135. The best part is that you are not tied down to a schedule. If you're not free 1 week, you're not wasting anything. You essentially pay each time you go. Parking can be tough, but I've never not had a spot. However, what you should be worried about is getting here early enough to get a spot in the class. Her classes are always packed, which speaks to just how good she is.
