The real curveball, the thing that makes this place unforgettable is the turtle races. A full aquarium setup, a sign promising Friday night chaos, and the sheer novelty of cheering for tiny shelled athletes doing their absolute best. I haven't seen them yet, but I absolutely want to. It's quirky, it's charming, and it gives the whole tap house a personality you can't fake. We couldn't stop talking about it! We went in to let management know that though we had wanted to eat there, we couldn't support a restaurant that advocates for a supposed maternal "right" to kill one's own offspring. And after calmly and politely expressing that view to the bartender/host, two women shouted the obvious lie that elective abortion is "healthcare," and told us that we should take our money elsewhere. As the establishment seems keen to advocate for a parental "right" to kill one's own children, with vim and vitriol no less, we were happy to do just that. Wish I had a picture of their signage and a video of the ladies shouting at us to leave to share here, but you can imagine, or go by and see for yourself.

I got a growler of beer from a different brewery here so that proved to be successful and pleasant. I went poking around on Untappd and looked up anything Black Lodge Brewing may have made and they certainly had some intriguing beers so I held off on getting a Yelp review posted for it. But on my second visit I was told that they don't brew their own beer anymore and that they only have guest taps from other breweries but they still had a good variety of beer to choose from as far as beer options go. So this place is more of a taphouse with guest taps so something to keep in mind. It's still as cool as I remember it. My last visit here looked like a concert was going to start. Might have been a metal or a punk oriented type band as that was what the audience appeared to be. I wasn't going to see the show and just wanted a beer so they were nice enough to let me in to do just that. Black Lodge Brewing is one of those breweries that is inspired by the TV show Twin Peaks and you pick up subtle nods to it there with some pictures of Laura Palmer. I bought some swag for this brewery online and while they had several designs I went with the logos that had the opening credits styled from the show with the brewery name on it.

We had two kids and a baby with us and they were extremely accommodating, offering the kids crayons and paper to color on to keep them busy, which allowed us parents to relax for a much needed minute. We got a few different beers - all were delicious - and took a couple cans of the Thai tea seltzer to go. The bartender/server invited the kids back to watch how he made the cans so that was cool. Overall very relaxed and friendly atmosphere, exactly what I was looking for with three kids. My husband loved the music and kept telling the guys it was his favorite stop of our whole trip!

Then a few minutes later, the waitress came back and said she spoke to the manager who said he would have to give her back a half of the sandwich! So he handed her a half of the sandwich! Super petty of the manager and embarrassing for the waitress. They can't resell it and most likely had to throw it away so what was the point?
