a pool table in a bar
    Tena C.

My husband loves this place. We have been visiting here for many years and have seen the ownership rotate 3-4 times. The current owner used to work for the previous owners and when they sold out, she took over. They host events for bikers as well bands and karaoke. They have a Megatouch bar top game that I really like to play that keeps me coming back. They also have one pool table that we've used if it's not too crowded in the bar. There is bar in the back of the building and a cafe up front. I haven't seen the cafe in operation when I've stopped in so I'm not sure if that is still operational or not. Kids may not be able to eat here if the bar is the only venue. The staff will remember you if you visit regularly. The current owner still recognizes us after all these years even though we aren't there every day. They do a good job of keeping you in drinks even when they are busy. I've tried many of their menu items and really haven't found a favorite thing that I like. My husband loves the pizza. I recenly tried the mushroom burger with swiss cheese. It was ok, but would have been even better if the mushrooms had been fresh rather than canned. The fry sauce has a bit of horseradish in it, if you like that sort of thing. It wasn't too over the top however, so I was happy to add it to my fries.

Great little country bar. Fun place to go and enjoy a drink. The food is very good for bar food. They do make a good pizza.

The last time we were at the Powder Keg was around 4 PM on New Years' Eve, & Mobius Wave (@mobius.wave) was performing. Nasty riffs! Six whole strings of bass! Souuuulll! The staff is generally very nice & friendly. The ordering situation, however, is a bit confusing. There's a station at the bar to order at, unless you sit directly at the bar & then they'll take your order from where you sit. We sat at the bar & ordered with a nice bartender & then waited for our food. Waited & waited & waited & waited. We then noticed the kitchen staff watching the band, just like us, & not doing any cooking. It looked like they were all caught up on food orders. That's when we realized that our food had been "up" for quite some time - at a pick-up station near the kitchen. No one had told us. Our ramen was cold. Our wings were cold. So even if you sit at the bar & order with the bar staff, the onus is still on you, the patron, to pick up your food when it's ready. As a system, that's fine! It just needs to be made clear. Maybe with tickets, deli style? Maybe with a screen displaying which orders are ready? Maybe they could at least deliver to bar seats, which are basically connected to the kitchen? There must be a way to prevent warm food from getting cold. I ordered the tonkatsu ramen. It wasn't really ramen. It was an Americanized ramen/pho medley. Egg noodles, ultra-hard boiled egg, pork, bean sprouts, mint, lime, jalapeños, etc. It was honestly kinda weird & flavorless - which is such a shame, because the pork was cooked perfectly. It just didn't taste like anything! The broth was akin to lukewarm water. I was really looking forward to our meal at the Powder Keg after a long day of snowboarding. I yearned for soup. The itch was only kinda scratched. The music was great, though. Oh yeah - Budweiser in an aluminum can cost $7. HUHHHH?!

We arrived on a night when they were having a group event for Plant Night. It looked interesting and the attendees were making fun terrarium planters. The bar seats were all taken so we found a table in the back area behind the plant night group near the pool tables which were free play. We had to go to the bar to get our first round of drinks. I stood at the counter awhile without service when the senior bar tender stood nearby and wouldn't look my way. Finally, the other bar tender who was very busy acknowledged me and gave me our drinks. It appeared that the senior bar tender thought we were with the plant group activity and didn't choose to wait on us. After some time passed and we played a few rounds of pool, the senior bar tender came over to our table and filled another round for us. He seemed more friendly and approachable at this point. They looked like they also had karaoke and paint class as activities and other theme nights. My only downside comment is that we did not have any food, but we experienced a rather terrible smell of old fryer grease penetrating through the entire bar. The food appeared to be prepared behind the bar with a counter top fryer. That smell did not encourage us to eat and we were glad to get some fresh air upon leaving. I would certainly return again for the fun but hope the smell would improve upon my return.

But the service was awful! We walked in around 2 or so for lunch on a Monday. It was crowded. Several staff walked past us waiting at the counter for a seat and didn't say a peep to us. Finally a woman appeared and said she'd be with us shortly. She came back and when it asked if we could sit on the patio she told me it was closed because in the morning it had been cold. It was in the 70's at 2pm?! She sat us at a table next to a support beam and it felt very tight. Chairs were not very comfortable and the table was wobbly. It was very warm in the restaurant and very loud. We sat for 15-20 minute without a single person acknowledging us. I was about to get up and leave when finally a waitress came for our order. My husband enjoyed his Back 40 burger commenting on how juicy it was but expected more flavor. I ordered a Garden salad which was really good. Carrots were huge, tomatoes were yummy and like I said earlier the greens were so crisp and so fresh. My daughter had the chicken tenders and seriously the chicken was so tender and tasted fresh unlike grocery store chicken. The views are amazing!
