Order the classes pack series on Groupon and when I purchased the series I was aware that theyre was one makeup class allowed that's why I got the class the next class I showed up to i was the only one in class that couldn't do any of the moves the first class I was fine, also the instructors and palace never informed me I had to wear shorts, they said yoga attire, I showed up and couldn't get anything out of the class I felt like a idiot wasted my money read more

Wanted to take a moment to recognize staff members Katie, Karla, and Aresha: Katie is very friendly, energetic, supportive, and knowledgeable. I appreciate that Katie knows how to work with me as I am very "flexy" which make some moves uncomfortable. Katie offers tips and tricks as well as modifications that have allowed me to safely accomplish moves that were previously uncomfortable. Karla is fun, calm, supportive and extremely encouraging. Karla's approach and style of teaching and coaching is very unique in the sense that Karla often focuses on how moves feel in the body versus how they look- I absolutely love this! Karla creates a safe and comfortable environment for me to express myself and reconnect and explore mind and body connection. Both Katie and Karla are great assets to the industry. Aresha is kind, professional, quick to respond to emails/calls/texts, and always delivers great customer service. The studio is a vibe- I appreciate the lighting because it makes all the difference. An area for improvement to consider is the ratio of class size to pole availability. Classes are often overbooked which forces us to share poles. This reduces the amount of time we spend using a pole while still having to pay the full rate for less pole time. read more

The Pole Palace is my favorite pole studio in Portland. I've visited all the studios in PDX and this is by far the best! Melissa is very knowledgeable and a amazing teacher. She's very good at teaching the correct form and ways to do pole tricks. The studio has a lot of different types of poles. There's rotating, powder coated, chrome, different sizes so lots to choose from. There's classes daily, so it fits my schedule well. The classes are drop in so you can go as you like. The pricing is also very reasonable compared to the other studios around. LOVE THIS PLACE! read more

I stopped in for a Freestyle and Flow class while I was on vacation. They were really helpful when I booked on the phone and let me drop into a series class. It's a pretty tight space and there were maybe 10 students in the class (fewer than 10 poles). We did a free-dance warm-up. The instructor taught us a short sequence of moves and then we danced them out and cooled down with some exotic movement exercises. My favorite part of the class was that the students were allowed to perform individually (if they wanted to) after class in front of everyone. It was awesome to see students, many beginner level, improvise such amazing pieces. They were all beautifully confident and creative. Awesome job, Pole palace! read more

This is my favorite studio in Portland - Melissa Hein really knows the human body and is the only instructor/owner I've had where I feel like I'm doing pole safely AND I'm not being talked down to. I'm sure this studio has its issues like any studio, but I've been to every other pole studio in Portland and they are owned by people of questionable character (giving their own studio a 5-star Yelp review...), resulting in high instructor turnover and classes having a clique-y environment - Pole Palace doesn't seem to have any of these issues and I'm really grateful for how peaceful it is! Unfortunately, I've moved to the west side so I haven't been able to go in the last year. read more

I am a first timer, and my experience did not meet my expectations. Bachelorette Party for 12 women: To start off - and not a huge deal, but she gave me the impression there were more poles than there actually were... left some of my guests watching or sharing a pole for part of the time. I would like my own pole for the whole time at $35/person. What WAS a big deal was her attitude. I would expect any dance instructor of a bachelorette party to be fun and engaging. Melissa was very uptight the entire time. She taught us the technical moves, but we were there to have fun, and she didn't bring that aspect. It is really disappointing when I hear the other girls in their party describe their experience as something like this: "it was pretty fun... I just wish the teacher was nicer/wasn't in such a bad mood" They ALL ended with that comment. I love this concept and will definitely do it again... but at another studio. read more

This studio has six powder coated poles and two chrome ones of various diameters (40, 42, 45, and 50 mm). There are cubbies to store belongings and a small bathroom. Classes are a bit disorganized and it seems like advanced students will benefit most from the multi-level classes. I attended a handful of various classes this year as an intermediate/advanced student. I'll spare the details but I'm not really drawn to return. read more

I love The Pole Palace! I've been attending classes here for around eight months, and the instructors are all knowledgable, welcoming, and obviously passionate about pole. They have awoken a love of dancing in me that I never knew I had - and MAN, the arm strength I've built! Special shout-out to Gemma... she's breathtaking to watch perform, and her focus on flow and floorwork has helped me enormously. I had my birthday party here last week, just the hour class with 5 of my girls and it was a blast! Claire was our instructor and she's incredible! Beautiful AND talented! We learned some moves and then a routine which she let us record with our phones! So fun to have that memory! At the end, she did a dance for us to the song "Birthday Sex", hilarious. And she did an amazing job! I couldn't be happier with my experience here! I'll definitely be going back! Thank you!!! read more

The Pole Palace is one of my favorite places in Portland. Pole dancing has been a passion of mine for about a year now, but Melissa has advanced me in a way I never could on my own. Her expertise and ability to create good habits is invaluable. She teaches me the correct way to do tricks and proper strength building exercises. I've also done the yoga/stretching classes here and I think they are fantastic. I like to hold poses for longer and do deeper stretches than you get in a normal yoga class. Melissa seems to understand that and creates classes that leave me inspired and feeling like I got an amazing workout! read more

I've been taking pole here for a bout a year now and I love it! I had tried out a few different pole studios in Portland before falling in love with this one! I usually go to two different classes here each week- polesque and a pole beginner/ intermediate series class. The classes are incredibly fun but will also kick your butt! Melissa- the instructor is engaging and creates and environment where it's not only safe but comfortable to learn while making sure that you are learning the correct form and challenging yourself. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking to challenge themselves with a crazy fun new workout or to anyone wanting to learn a new way to be sexy! read more

Gemma and Melissa are true teachers of the amazing pole dancing craft. They encourage, listen, instruct and welcome everyone into the studio. I have taken 4 classes so far, with no dance experience and have already learned so much. They give a great foundation of correct posture, ensure you are safe with your positiong, and offer warm up exercises to prepare your body for the pole! This is the best pole studio I've ever been to! By virtue of my constant moving around, I've taken a few classes at many different studios. Classes at the Pole Palace are well-balanced in a way that I love, incorporating strength training and conditioning (the fitness-y aspects of pole training) combined with emphasis on dancing with attitude and having fun (the performance/sassy aspect). What I like best though is how much the teachers (I've had classes with both Melissa and Gemma) emphasize good technique to avoid injury. I've left several classes at other studios with weird wrist or shoulder pain, which I suspect was due to inadequate attention paid to good form. The instructors also encourage their students to learn the names of their classmates and to get to know them at the beginning of class, which makes dancing in front of each other in a bikini way less weird and a lot more fun! read more

The Pole Palace is an awesome studio. It's a great place to focus on skills or fitness. They have great instructors who always fully explain new moves and conditioning exercises. The studio is nice and clean, and classes are at great times for my schedule. I like all the different classes that are offered, too. I've been coming to this studio for two weeks now and it's truly been a wonderful experience. I look forward to every class I come to. I love that the classes are an hour and a half, it allows for a good warm up and plenty of time to learn new material. Melissa's emphasis on safety and strengthening before you try new tricks makes you completely comfortable trying them. I also love when she brings her furbabes, it makes the studio feel homey. as a (36 year old, out of shape) beginner i was able to jump right in and feel comfortable. the instructors break everything down and offer one on one, hands-on help even in group classes which i appreciate. they make it such an amazing 1-hr (or longer) workout. i'm working core muscles i didn't even know i had. it incorporates dance, flexibility/stretching, plus isolated muscle training from head to toe. i don't think i could ever go back to a regular, 24-hr fitness type gym, after having this much fun and getting a better workout than any treadmill, yoga/pilates class could offer. as i've dropped in on different level 1 classes, i have joined all body shapes and sizes and skill levels, and they encourage everyone to personalize the session so it works for your specific shape. my only hope is that they grow the studio and can get a bigger space. many of the girls in group class have to modify moves to not run into other poles. floor space is limited, but still gets the job done. read more
