Which is nice since most studios do 60 minute sessions but it's nice to have enough time to really warm up. I have used many Groupons trying to find somewhere fun to dance and work out and EVERY other time, the staff and clientele were either intimidating. I would either get a closed clique kind of vibe or in one case, distinct feelings of unwelcome because I didn't know their routines, habits, or I unknowingly stood in someone else's usual spot. Diva Den? Oh my freaking god!! I don't think I was made to feel this welcome since my last birthday party! For friggin' serious - I called to figure out how to activate my account and the woman who helped me, Valerie, could not have been more patient, helpful, and pleasant. A few times I went, I wasn't sure which room my class was to be in and every time, the front desk staff on duty gladly showed me to the room the class was in without even a flicker that implied I was an inconvenience, which would have been fairly reasonable given that I was asking them to walk me to class like they were my mother on the first day of kindergarten. The classes?? EVERY instructor I've taken a class from has been kind and patient and helpful AND more importantly, the classes are challenging but ABSOLUTELY SO MUCH FUN. Hashim, the instructor of a class that starts at 5:30am gave me individual help and encouragement despite the early hour and my abysmal ability to keep up with the regulars (who were also willing to help me get into their routines). Rosella is the instructor for "It's a Groove Thang!" and she makes the class SO fun - she's enthusiastic and energetic and her dance moves are less mind-boggling and complicated and more fun than other dance workout classes I've taken. By that, I mean, she gives you choreography that is delightful even if you are not as...coordinated as others (take it from me, as my friends always refer to me "dancing" in quotes). "It's a Groove Thang!" is easily my favorite dance workout class I have EVER taken and I have tried MANY. I took "Center of Gravity" with Jody and since Valerie was at the front desk that day, she kindly tipped Jody off that I was new (Valerie is a GD ANGEL). Jody helped me through all of the movements. I was SO scared before signing up for this class because it involves fabric slings hanging from the ceiling and I worried I'd end up tangling myself up and flopping around helplessly like a flying goober while the rest of the class looked on in perplexity and disdain. I couldn't have been more wrong. Jody helped me with everything before I even had to ask and the others in the class seemed to want me to succeed as much as I wanted to! And the class was DELIGHTFUL. I felt incredible afterward. I don't have a single negative word to say about this place. This review may sound like overenthusiastic hyperbole, but I don't usually gush. I just genuinely believe that this place is a wonderful, WONDERFUL place to go, workout, chat with inexplicably helpful and kind people. It is SO worth your time, money, and even commute! I have recommended it to all of my friends because it is a BLAST and a half and I have thoroughly enjoyed every single visit from beginning to end! I appreciate that Katie knows how to work with me as I am very "flexy" which make some moves uncomfortable. Katie offers tips and tricks as well as modifications that have allowed me to safely accomplish moves that were previously uncomfortable. Karla is fun, calm, supportive and extremely encouraging. Karla's approach and style of teaching and coaching is very unique in the sense that Karla often focuses on how moves feel in the body versus how they look- I absolutely love this! Karla creates a safe and comfortable environment for me to express myself and reconnect and explore mind and body connection. Both Katie and Karla are great assets to the industry. Aresha is kind, professional, quick to respond to emails/calls/texts, and always delivers great customer service. The studio is a vibe- I appreciate the lighting because it makes all the difference. An area for improvement to consider is the ratio of class size to pole availability. Classes are often overbooked which forces us to share poles. This reduces the amount of time we spend using a pole while still having to pay the full rate for less pole time.

What could have been horrifying and awkward turned out amazing. Thalia is a very knowledgable instructor- patient, supportive and incredibly sweet. Tried out the newbie's pole class recently. I have zero experience with pole and was pretty nervous…read moregoing in. I arrived 20 minutes early and was given a tour of the gym by the staff. Another person and I taking the class were told they would open the door to the pole studio 10 minutes before, as they only give the code to gym members. The other person and I waited outside for 15 minutes; we were also joined by 2 other people waiting, but no one opened the door for us. We knocked multiple times, and a staff member had to unlock the door for us. We entered the studio during the class, which had already started. Immediately, the instructor by the name of Nina berated us and told us how rude it was that we were 15 minutes late and made the 4 of us do jumping jacks. I was instantly turned off and almost got up and left the class due to the instructor's behavior. The class was not beginner-friendly; she went through demos extremely fast, and the overall unwelcoming vibe from Nina was the worst way to introduce me to pole. Thankfully, this experience did not turn me away completely from pole, but I will be taking my business somewhere that is more welcoming and friendly. I DO NOT reccomend this place for beginners, and I DO NOT reccomend Nina as an instructor.

This is a review for the lessons, not the Sunday swing. We…read morewent to a "Lindy 101" lesson from stumptown that was $25 each and two hours long and barely even danced the basic to music by the end. It was painfully slow, way over explained and allowed almost no practice-just a lot of the instructor talking. I don't feel like anyone there who didn't walk in already knowing how to do Lindy left with the ability to try Lindy outside of a classroom setting. It felt like a swindle honestly. I've been to a lot of lessons from many teachers and this was by far the least useful. Mindy is really nice and she knows her stuff in how to dance but, she is not a great teacher (at least not in large group setting) and the lesson was way overpriced for what it was. Everything taught in that lesson could have been covered in about 20mins. Just go to the pre dance lessons on Sunday and you'll be better off, or look on YouTube and then just go dance!
