Before all the Poke restaurants opened in town, Poke Express ranked as the Best Poke in Bakersfield!! Had tried poke in many of the sushi places and acai bowl shops in town, but none could beat Poke Express. Yes compared to places outside of Bako, they are pricier. The sushi places in Bakersfield are more expensive than this awesome food stand though. Also, you can save $1 by checking in on Yelp. I like the fact that their fresh ahi tuna is not over marinaded. Many places in town put too much soy sauce and other marinade in their poke that it overwhelms the flavor. They have a nice selection of fixings and toppings with which to customize your bowls. Service is terrific. Poke Express does not have a brick and mortar location. We find them on Sundays at the Haggin Oaks Farmers Market. Before the Poke restaurants opened up, Poke Express was the place for us to go. They are still 5 stars in my book.

Two words -BULGOGI FRIES. You're welcome. Haha. We also got a poke bowl with tuna and salmon and a spam musubi. I wish their serving size was a little bigger, but for $10ish a bowl I suppose it was priced right. I would be willing to pay an extra $2-3 for good quality and quantity food.

I am in love and I can't wait to try more items! This weekend I was able to try the shrimp tempura, kimchi, and spring rolls. Each item was cooked to perfection and garnished with green onions and creamy siracha Mayo. The customer service was top notch and the owners genuinely made me feel like family. I can't wait to try the poke and other menu items.

Farmer's market is coming up in the world! There was a time when farmer's market was all about the fresh veggies, fresh fruits and the fresh squeezed juices, but over time the Farmer's market has become a place for new businesses to introduce their products and if it'll become a hit. The Poke Express has instantly become a hit for me and I kid you not, they have got me craving their yummy poke. Bakersfield doesn't really have any poke places, so poke is new and different for a lot of Bakersfield people and unfortunately a lot of people find themselves asking if they should eat raw fish or not. You either will love it or you're not gonna try it, because once you try it then I believe you can get past the raw fish phobia and love it. It's really addicting and can be pricey if you eat here all the time, but trust me, it's worth it. The poke here is tasty and you have more options for toppings, unfortunately the bowls are smaller than the other guys, so that's the downside. They have quality ingredients here and you can tell everything is fresh.

Lunch time! Can't wait to try and I'm the last customer and it's only 12:31pm.

I was super bummed that during the month of July The Poké Express would not be on hand at the Farmer's Market downtown but then I realized they are not far from home on a Sunday. Every Sunday they are at the Haggins Oak Farmer's Market off Ming Avenue in the Kaiser Permanente parking lot along with several other amazing vendors. After a few weekends passing by I was finally able to make it out here and it was pretty damn amazing. I arrived around noon and with no surprise they were sold out of some items which I was okay with. Instead of steamed rice I got brown rice, it is pretty much a build your own poké bowl starting with the base of rice. You then pick sides which go on top, they were out of Seaweed Salad which would have been delish but I was still able to get crab meat, edamame, cucumber, red onion and tofu. After that you choose a sauce, the poke is already marinate in the sesame shoyu but if needed you can add more, I did a mix of wasabi aioli and siracha aioli. Lastly you choose toppings, I took it all! I added furikake, green onions, crispy garlic and pickled ginger which added such amazing depth of flavor. Upon walking up to their stand I glanced over the area, I always do this with food stands or food trucks, if give me a sense of how clean they are. I look for food dropping, smudges, open containers and ladles left airing out. Here at The Poké Express, you see such a spic and span stand, the freezer is in pristine condition as well as the surrounding environment. I learn this observation from my wife who is a clean fanatic which in my case is a god send. All of the ingredients were extremely fresh, nothing more than a day old. The Poké itself was perfect in texture, flavor and visibility. Each vegetable has a fresh crisp to each bite and their pickled ginger made me a fan, I am not a fan of ginger as it is. The Poké Express is well established and can sell it rather quickly, as I saw for myself today I just made it because I was the last customer to get a full bowl. The prices are good as well, $10 for the regular bowl and $13 for the large which you definitely get a great amount of food in both. Another great attribute they have is their great customer service, both ladies were friendly and ensure my order was well document before putting together. They were sure to build a customer relationship and even remembered me from messaging them on Instagram, they knew me by my first name which stands out a lot. If you are lover of Poké, you better not miss out on the opportunity for The Poké Express; if you haven't tried Poké, you can build your bowl to your taste buds which is not common amongst a lot of food places.

Omg this was so delicious!!!! We got there shortly before they closed and ordered our food, poke burrito, poke bowl, & chicken egg rolls. The ladies working were super friendly and answered an questions we had. They gave us a pager so we could go inside WLB and order our beers. It took about 10 minutes for our food to be ready and it was so fresh and yummy!!!! I don't like seaweed in fact it makes me usually turn my nose up but the seaweed used to wrap the burrito was very mild and didn't have the normal seaweed flavor. The poke bowl was huge and the egg rolls were two normal sized egg rolls cut in half served with sweet chili sauce, yum! They had a lot of different sauces you could get on your food as well. Wasabi mayo, spicy mayo, eel sauce, sweet chili sauce, and a few others I can't remember.

Loved it loved it loved it. The tuna was fresh and delicious. The sriracha aioli sauce was amazing! I had the small order and it was very satisfying. The owners were very polite and offered great suggestions. My only complaint is that they don't have a brick and mortar restaurant or a food truck. It's a pop up at the Farmer's Market on Ming Avenue on Sundays. Poke Express if you're reading this, please invest in a food truck and open more often.

The Poke Express was at the Haggin Oaks Farmer's Market today. I got a bowl with white rice(you can also choose brown rice) and all the sides they had. It was really fresh and tasty, tasted how a poke bowl is supposed to taste. It was sold at $10 a bowl, and worth it. The bowl contents were: rice, edamame, seaweed salad, green onion, red onion, cucumber, ahi tuna, crab meat, I added some ginger , sesame seeds and mild wasabi sauce at the end to pull all the flavors together. They also have avocado as an ingredient but they were out by the time I got there, and 5 different sauces from mild to hot that I could see. I hope to have them again, because it really was good.

    The bowl is half full.

I stopped by their food stall at Haggin Oaks Farmer's Market and ordered three Chicken Terayaki Bowls. Two regular bowls and one with hot sauce. I was hungry and was disappointed at the portion sizes. Maybe they ran out of rice because they gave me a very small amount of rice in each bowl. The taste was just average. I won't eat there again.

    Words don't explain the deliciousness!

Jin sushi.. your food and waited service, has absolutely hit it out of the box. BUT please read…read morethe whole review.. We shared the garlic edamame which was my absolute favorite and the best edamame I had ever tasted whatever seasonings with the generous amount of garlic was just heavenly. If you like edamame you should love this one you won't be disappointed. I could literally have a bowl of this and a couple of Stella Artois for dinner and have the best night ever. We also shared the bulgogi bento box as well as two rolls, one being the lobster roll the other one being a spicy flaming roll which of course I forgot the name of but either way the ingredients were very fresh the roles were both full of ingredients and everything in the Bento Box, the fried rice the salad & the Bulgogi was tender, all were all tasty and reminiscent of a another restaurant in Bakersfield that is usually my Bento Box go-to. JIn Sushi could absolutely be my most favorite sushi place in Bakersfield if they fix a couple of little things It's only two problems I had with this place one was the seating issue, that they created when we first walked in I had a reservation and waited 25 minutes to be seated I only knew it was an issue because I talked to the lady behind me who had a appointment 15 minutes after mine with three friends and was seated before me, the whole process seemed unorganized and the young lady running it seem to be stressed trying to get it right. The next issue was me reading the health score violations during my extra 25 minute wait and trying to avoid any of the foods that were listed. Something I probably wouldn't have seen if I didn't have to wait 25 mins. after my reservation well researching any complaints about wait times. If management gets the seating issue corrected, and place up front who will stay up front and take command of the seating, keeping track of who comes in with reservations I think this would have been a overall better experience. However we will definitely try again.

However, during my last visit, I noticed something that didn't sit right with me, and I just wanted to make others aware. The restaurant automatically adds an 18% gratuity for parties of five or more, including small children in the party count. While I understand restaurants have policies, what bothered me was that it wasn't verbally mentioned or clearly pointed out during our visit, which makes it very easy to overlook. If you pay by card, the receipt they bring you already includes the gratuity in the total. However, the signature slip still suggests additional tip amounts at the bottom, which can easily lead people to accidentally double tip without realizing it. I'm sharing this simply so people can pay attention before signing. In today's economy, every extra dollar matters for families dining out. And while some people may say, "If you can't afford to tip, don't eat out," the reality is that restaurants rely on customers to stay in business too. Transparency goes a long way, and I think customers should be clearly informed when gratuity has already been included.
