Today we were driving around looking for lunch and I spotted The Poacher as we drove past. It looked warm and welcoming so we decided to stop in for lunch.
As we walked in, we weren't greeted by anyone so headed to find our own table. I was not certain at this point they were still serving as the carvery looked packed up.
We found a nice booth and were in the process of sitting down when we were greeted and I asked and they were still doing lunch.
I couldn't find the toilets for a while as the door was open for staff to go in and out so I couldn't see the sign which resulted in me walking all the way around the pub looking in random rooms.
I ordered the mushroom stroganoff and hubby had the beef burger. The wait wasn't long and the waitress was lovely.
The meals were very large but unfortunately, the chips were undercooked and my stroganoff was quite bland (though lovely once I seasoned it myself).
The customer service was slightly odd and gave us an unwelcome feeling that's the second reason for the two star rating.
I think the food was just OK and would go back if someone else was having something there, but I don't think we would choose to go back on our own again. read more
