The second time around, not upset it took two days, not upset it leaked, but what I was upset about was two things, one I am forbidden to mention as my source does not want this story to be told, but it solidified I hired the wrong human. The second issue which I can recount, is the cost was 856.84 thereabout for one faucet and the plumbing under the two cast iron sinks. Once you go past a certain price, you legally have to have a contractors license, and the scalping was over the legal limit. I read with great interest that the DA is closing in on unlicensed renegades over charging. I am sad to report this. As many one stars I give, I never like doing it, but at times it has to be done. When is a contractor's license required in California? According to state law, it is illegal for an unlicensed contractor to advertise as being licensed or contract for work exceeding $500 in value for labor and materials.Dec 16, 2012 read more

Rude and highly unprofessional. Showed up cussing, moaning and in an argumentative mood. Failed to clear a simple pipe then proceeded to argue when told where the overflow was coming out. He cut the drain pipe then stormed off without reparing it. Refused to put a coupler on the pipe he left cut then dared me to sue him. Badmouthed and racially berated the last name of the homeowner. Cost $400 more than having the original pipe reamed out by a professional. read more

James is the best! He works hard and gets the job done. Very experienced and knowledgeable. We loved how honest he is. He communicates clearly what he's working on and the time he's spending on our projects. Very fair on price and helped us avoid a lot of trouble with our crazy mountain home. He's seen it all. Hire James The Plumber - you won't be disappointed!! read more

The owner was not able to help due to his schedule, but he went out of his way to refer me to other associates that were local and could help. Wow, I was impressed with his sincere desire to help out. Thanks. read more

I recently had a sewage ejector pump fail that caused a major backup at my home in Boulder Creek that required quick action to resolve. Jim was quick to respond, and correctly identified the root cause of my problem. Jim worked with me to find a work address the overflow issue and was able to replace the ejector pump in less than 24 hours from when I called him. Not only did Jim fix my problem quickly, he was honest on time and materials. read more

Great service! Very reliable. Reasonable prices. I've used Jim Gullo for every plumbing problem that I've had, and I will continue using him. He's the best! read more

James replaced our old water heater. He delivered a new one, installed it and hauled away our old one. Fantastic service! I like how he explains and educates you about the work he's doing and what caused the issue. He's also local which is great as it is difficult to get trades people to come out here. read more

Jim saved us when all others were closed! He replaced our Disposal unit under the sink with great efficiency. We are so tickled we discovered his business. Thank you Jim!!! read more

Just moving into Lompico on Saturday and all drains were plugged. The HoneyBucket Man said we were at least a year away from needing that so try snaking it. I called 18 different plumbers in the area in the first 2 hours of the day 0800-1000 (90% claimed to be open Saturday, Emergency or 24 hour service). Only one answered the phone - but I would assume they would be busy so didn't pay any attention to that at first. The one that answered said "yes we have 24 hour and emergency service what do you need?" When I said we need to have my line snaked he said he needed to check the technician schedule. After tapping on a keyboard for a few seconds he says, "Sorry my technicians are all on a commercial project for the next 2 weeks!" What the ?!?! How can you offer emergency 14 day service? Didn't offer any suggestions or referrals. Next call was to "The Plumber"! I left a message and within about 15 minutes Jim called back and said he would come this afternoon - "not sure what time but I'll be there today." He called and said he'd finished up and would be here within the hour. He was!!! He knocked it out and price was reasonable enough for weekend emergency service. He took the time to explain what he found and how we can correct it in the future. He gave us his 30 day guarantee and was very polite and professional. I couldn't be happier with his service! Looks like I've found my plumber for future needs . . . THE PLUMBER! read more

Friday afternoon found a leak on a pvc piece connected to the meter. SLV water stated it was beyond the meter so they would not do anything but shut the water off and supply well wishes. I always try to hire the local person to support our community so I looked at yelp for recommendations. I called The Plumber who is based in Boulder Creek. James came out and dug out and repaired the section that was leaking. He charged a very reasonable rate for a weekend/after hours call. He will warranty the repair for six months. Thank you James for a job well done. read more

My family had the worst service I have ever witnessed. Professionalism, respect, and understanding was completely absent. When my family paid for the services (fixing slow drain when bathtub is filled and one issue with our toilet), they came to fix the problem and ended up creating a worse problem than we started with. I will also mention, we paid for the service months back (about six) and the bathtub issue has not been fixed. Jim raised his voice at my mother, would not listen to our concerns, and covered his ears when I was asking him to speak respectfully to my mom and began to ignore me. After months of this issue going on, we are glad to say we are back to square one and will be finding someone else to fix the problem. read more

Jim came within an hour of my call after the fridge delivery service left me with two fridges, neither working and a leaking water line. He was a life saver, highly recommended!! read more

Jim Gullo, "The Plumber," pulled my toilet, got his snake caught, then cut it off in my pipe. I believed him when he told me it would wash into my septic. It didn't, but I didn't know it at the time. After $1000 more in plumbing bills, another plumber fished it out. "The Plumber" refused to make good on his mistake. read more

Quality work; fast; extremely reasonable prices. I needed a pressure regulator installed and he came out same day with the part and had it done in less than an hour. His rates are VERY reasonable. We have a gem here in the San Lorenzo Valley! read more

Good guy..I recommend on clogs...personell reference ugggh! As a legit plumber no Bueno.

The Plumber is your guy: hardworking, skilled, good rates and the best name. We've been working with him for years. He delivers every time.

We had a rough time making the connection, I think, because Jim does great work and is an honest man, and people who are both of those things are very much in demand, but once we got him in, he was quiet, clean, methodical, and very respectful. I will look forward to hiring him for future jobs. I'm thrilled with him, no joke, and he's a Real San Lorenzo Valley Character, which I consider to be a massive bonus. Thrilled with his rate, his guarantee, and how pleasant he is to have around. read more

Called early am, they answered and scheduled the only time that worked for me. Fixed everything in moments and I was very happy! Thank you!! read more

James is a godsend! Where other plumbers had told me I would have to wait two months, this man was at my house in ten minutes to fix a broken pipe under the deck. His work is meticulous and he even went out of his way to get the last remaining insulation available in Santa Cruz county. Oh and he picked up a new toilet too, and had it installed in less than an hour. HIs prices are very reasonable. Super nice guy, hardworking and honest. We will never call anyone else for plumbing needs. read more

This is my first yelp review ever. Glad I read Steve K's review and called Jim. Yesterday was Xmas eve and I had a bad clog affecting the whole house's drain system. I called at least 4 other people and got answering machines. It was 3:30 in the afternoon and Jim answered his phone. I told him what I had and realized it was probably a bad day to ask for him to come by. (this day, Xmas eve, was a Saturday to boot) He said he'd come by in an hr. and a half. He showed up in an hr. And, immediately went to work. This guy is no-bull. He spent a half hr. trying to clear my main line from the septic tank but, couldn't get at the clog with the "smaller" machine he had with him. He said he wasn't going to quit on me and drove to another location to get the "big machine". Was back in 20 mins. and spent a half hr. trying to break the clog from the septic tank end of the line. He still couldn't get it. He was pretty upset with himself but, this guy doesn't quit! We went under the house and hit the line with the smaller machine in what was a very tight, and awkward place for a guy to be running this rooter machine. He broke the clog and I felt as if my first child had been born I was so happy. This whole endeavor took a good hour and a half. Jim is a hard-working, no nonsense guy. I would recommend him to anyone in the Boulder Creek area. read more

Yes, James the plumber is great! Local guy. He has done my septic clogs for many years. Very reliable. I have had him come when nobody is home, do the job, leave a bill, I mail him a check. Of course he knows where I live! --------------------- [4/13/11: He recently installed a new water heater and told me where to get one myself so I did not have to pay him to fetch it. There was a very minor problem with the installation and when I called him I told him no rush, anytime this week to fix it. He was there the next day fussing and highly apologetic. It was obvious that the imperfection bothered him more than it bothered me.] read more

These gents are terrific. A screw in a pipe that was too shallow in the wall, sent water everywhere. We called, they were there within the hour, and done with the entire repair in less than that. Clean, efficient, thorough! Anyone in need... Jim THE PLUMBER is your guy. read more

I called Jim for some work in our crawl space, but it wasn't actually plumbing work. Instead of just saying, "No." he helped me out by providing two referrals of companies who could do the work. I will definitely call Jim the next time I need a plumber. read more

I'm not the kind of person who normally writes Yelp reviews, but I had to in this case. The short story: I've been paying way too much to the "rooter" services to take care of plumbing issues and after a particularly huge bill for something that should have taken little time and effort I gave up on being ripped off and searched for the Real Deal. I found it in The Plumber. It's just a handful of guys from Boulder Creek, but they're the guys you want--experienced, responsive, and reasonably priced. We had a leak under our driveway that the rooter guys said would cost *thousands* to deal with. James and Steve came over, dealt with the problem in a couple of hours, and charged us well under a thousand for the work. While on the job we pointed out a couple of other issues we wanted to deal with--redoing the shutoff valve to the house and some leaking faucets--and within a week they were back, did what needed doing, and charged us a perfectly reasonable price. These guys don't have the fancy painted trucks, the little blue booties, the clipboards, or the "loyalty plans"--the stuff that looks good, but is designed to drain your wallet as well as your pipes. Instead, they offer competent service. What more could you ask for? read more

The Plumber was fast, on time, and fair. He did an awesome job and taught us some things about plumbing. Will definitely call again

Once again, The Plumber came to my rescue! Even though he was swamped with other service calls, he made sure my running (not just dripping) faucet was fixed within a couple hours of my call. The work is always quick, reliable, and guaranteed, and you can't beat his hourly rate! He's my go-to plumber! read more

Jim Gullo is The Plumber. Thank goodness. He not only returns phone calls, he shows up on time, will tell you exactly what needs to be done, does it and cleans up after himself. The work is excellent, no need to call him back two or three times. If it's something he can't do, he'll be honest and let you know, rather than trying to fake it and do a half-assed job. Highly recommended! read more

I've worked with him twice, and been more than pleased both times. He returns calls, schedules appointments, keeps them. He does good work at affordable rates, clearly explaining what needs to be done and how he's going to do it. He's polite, and his work is neat and tidy. I am so glad to do business with him! read more

James came out to fix our water heater. Turned out we might have to replace the whole unit since it's still under warranty. He talked over all of our options, offered advice, clearly had a huge amount of experience and knowledge AND at the end of the day he didn't even charge us for his time. We will definitely call James when it comes time for installation. read more

James is a very experienced plumber and a great guy. I hired him to fix a leaking toilet that my usual plumber couldn't get right. James had it taken care of in 30 minutes and did an overall inspection of my other facilities as well. He explained everything in detail -- including his recommendations -- and encouraged me to watch him work so I could understand how my toilet worked. I know that sounds less than thrilling, but as a fairly new homeowner, it was INVALUABLE. I will never hire anybody else! read more

James and team are wonderful. He shows up when he says, returns phone calls, sticks to estimates when possible and doesn't over charge. He has a huge amount of plumbing knowledge and experience and will point out things that could cause potential problems. He will save you money when he can without doing an inferior job just to cut costs. Whatever your problem, it will be done right. He's my go to guy. read more

Jim is fantastic. He returns calls, shows up when he says he will and is very clear about what he can and cannot do. He will not try to bluff his way through something and quit halfway through and leave you in the lurch. He will also tell you what you can do to prevent the problem from happening again. He is honest and good at what he does. I highly recommend him. read more
