I have eaten here before, several times, in the bar and it has been fine.
My parents wanted to take the whole family out to celebrate my birthday and as they were paying, I looked for a venue with a fixed price menu. The Plough advertise a set price Sunday lunch on their website, so I called to confirm this would be available and booked a table.
When we arrived, there was no fixed price menu and the pretentious waiter denied all knowledge of anything advertised on their website. The manageress also denied all knowledge, saying the offers on their website were nothing to do with them! (Even when I pointed out their website is called http://www.ploughinneynsford.co.uk!) . Eventually she agreed to do us a set 2 course meal when we showed her the offer on the website and we were happy with this.
We then waited more than 1 1/2 hours for our food started to arrive. We did manage to get one round of drinks delivered but no one came back to ask if we wanted any more during the 3 HOURS we were sat at the table.
Unfortunately the length of time between the first and the last dishes being delivered to our table was such a long time that the first person had finished eating before the last people received their meal.
The food was cold, the selection of vegetables was extremely poor, the roast beef was so rare that one of our party had to send their food back - it was literally swimming in blood.
We decided not to wait for the desserts we had expected as part of the set menu - in fact I'm not even sure desserts were offered to us. We made many complaints to the waiter and the manageress not once came over to discuss them with us. An amount of money was deducted from the final bill because of the appalling food/service we had been subjected to.
I complained by email to the restaurant and they asked for a telephone number to call me on to discuss. I provided this but one month later I have still not heard from them. Which just proves what we felt at the time - they really couldn't care less about their customers.
I should also perhaps mention that the table next to us, who arrived just after we did, never did receive their food at all. And after waiting several hours, and I would presume complaining about the wait, the chef came out to apologise and told them their food was still not ready so they were going to "cut their losses" and allow the party to leave without paying for the drinks they had consumed.
To summarise our experience - greedy restaurant that overbooks and does not have sufficient staffing to cater for the amount of customers, overpriced food that is very basic and not even served hot, false advertising on their website, terrible customer service and a manager that disappears at the first hint of a problem. read more
