Stopped here for dinner while traveling in London! The Crosse Keys is a pub, but has the feel of a casino almost with the high ceilings and carpeted floor with the bar in the center. We sat ourselves at one of the tall tables on the edge, looked at the menus, and placed our orders at the bar- giving them our table number. I'm not exaggerating when I say our food was brought out in 5 minutes! Which was great for us because we were famished. I ordered the quinoa salad & my friends ordered a burrito & lasagna- all delicious. Many options on the menu included a drink as well! Definitely a fun atmosphere, The Crosse Keys seemed to be filled with locals celebrating the end of another work week. Recommend if you're in the area!

Having walked from Leadenhall Market we needed a drink and, maybe, some lunch so looked for a pub. As we walked along Gracechurch Street I noticed a formidable building and, surprisingly over the door, a sign for ales. There was a menu outside so, being wary of London prices, we ventured across the road. What a surprise as we neared and I saw the blue W on the menu. A Wetherspoons, couldn't be better. As is usual with theses pubs, it was packed out. At their prices it's a 'no brainer'. Two wonderful 'filled to the brim' jacket potatoes a couple of drinks went down using their app on my phone. No need to queue at the bar. I have used it in many W pubs and it ALWAYS works. Wonderful, impressive building that Wetherspoons have renovated but used the original materials. There is a joke amongst Wetherspoon users that their loos are always upstairs and, normally, quite high. The Crosse Keys is different, the loos are downstairs. As I have said, you can't beat a Wetherspoons pub and this makes me a real W Fan.

Nice clean bar, which is always a good start. However the food is a different story. We went for Sunday roast and most roast were out. I then ordered a mixed grill and it was kinda dry and over cooked for the most big. We also had a steak and ale pie, thought it should be some of the safer options, but the pastry was really think and the pie was a tat dry. That said, at least it's a nice environment to cheat and spend a meal with a few mates.

We were wondering with some friends, whether that place was formerly a bank... Now I got the answer, from one of my fellow yelpers comment ;) A good place for after-work drinks, service is quite good for such a huge place. The Burger-Berr 6 £ deal is very kool, since the Breakfast burger is truly a delight, with perfectly cooked meat, and very tasty ingredients. I wouldn't rule out using it for a private function either, if at all possible... Cheers !

We only stopped here briefly but I was impressed with the place. The location is great, tucked away down narrow streets that are home to a multitude of different types of architecture which in my mind represent quintessential London. You enter and it almost seems to grand to be a pub, with the entrance hall not really giving much away. It could be a corporate HQ or anything waiting around the corner, but a pub it is. The large open space has a central bar area and loads of table and chairs dotted around. Nice chairs too, generously proportioned leather clad affairs like the sort your wealthy old grandparents would have in their drawing room. I don't have such grandparents, but if I did I'm sure this is what their furniture would have been like. The building itself has an air of splendour. Not a pompous one mind you, it's understated but ever present as you look around. Cast your eyes at the high ceilings which play host to some impressive sky lights for a perfect example of this. Service was fast and friendly on our visit, although it was far from busy so this may not always be the case. The bar tender stepped in immediately once she noticed the head on my settling Guinness was going to be excessive and took it for a top up before I had even given it a cursory glance. It's a Weatherspoons, so usual Weatherspoons drill. No frills, no music etc, but what they do they seem to be doing well. Worth a look.

We had a quick lunch there on a Monday. The pub is part of the Wetherspoon chain. The room is quite big, there are some big windows on one side but apart from the tables close to the windows, the room is a bit dark. The menu was interesting, I couldn't decide what to order : some sirloin steak, a burger, a salad ? After a lot of thinking, my friend and I decided that we wanted to try the California burger. Unfortunately, they didn't have any (as well as some other food listed on the menu). We asked for a chicken burger with avocado, they didn't have avocado anymore either. We finally ordered a simple chicken burger (one grilled, one fried). It was quite good and come with three (exactly 3) onion rings and fries. We lost a bit of time by thinking about what to eat, then go to the bar, then being told that this or this was unavailable. It was a bit frustrating as our lunch breaks are not that long but the food was good anyway. Service was ok too.

This is exactly as advertised, a nice place to get cheap drinks and food. Nothing more and nothing less.

I got the bangers and mash while by wife got the cottage pie. I think I got the better meal as the sausages were really tasty and the whole grain mustard in the potatoes was a great way to elevate the potatoes. Her cottage pie was fine but didn't have a ton of flavor. Food came out surprisingly quickly, but we also had an order of chips which was crazy slow to come out of the kitchen. The chips were quite good but we'd both finished our entire meals and most of our beers by the time we got them. Beer options were solid, some good German choices. Beer was cheap too.

This place is not trying to play up on an image like many of the bars in this areas and sticks instead to the important business of being a damn fine pub. Being quite small there is a naturally cosy feel to the place and this is complimented by the decor wuth lots of wood panelling and comfy seats. The bar has a great selection of draft and bottled beers and, for the summer months, there is an excellent beer garden. I've yet to try the food but they do serve traditional pub grub between 12 and 5 Tuesday through Sunday. With a great atmosphere, warm and friendly bar staff and an excellent range of drinks, The Carpenters Arms is a brilliant place for a relaxing evening or a great stop-in after a hard days shop.

But, the chaos I walked into on a Sunday has ensured that I never walk into a crowded pub like this again. It took almost 15 minutes to flag down one of the servers to ask about getting a table, to which I was told, "If you see a spot, grab it." As soon as I saw a couple get up I threw my stuff down- hoping it wouldn't get stolen- and went to order at the bar. That took another 5 minutes. Given how crowded it was, I ended up having to share my table with 4 other people; which wasn't bad, until I ended up getting my food more than 15 minutes after I'd ordered it, and then realized I was the only one eating at a table full of strangers. The food itself wasn't bad, but for a pub that claims to have the best Sunday Roast in London, it certainly didn't compare to those that don't claim that and are less of a hassle to eat in. And at £17 a pop, you can bet the experience wasn't worth it for some chicken and Yorkshire pudding.

About a week ago, I made the mistake of ordering some Nachos here. Honestly the saddest plate of…read moreNachos I've ever come across. The best description of it I can make is that it was that someone poured a bag of tortilla chips onto a plate, squeezed some awful American-style runny cheese over it all, then put some ready-made shop-bought guacamole on one end, what looked like ketchup but was salsa on the other end, and then the largest dollop of sour cream (almost tasted like fresh whipped cream somehow) in the middle. There was no attempts to layer anything. It was served on a baking tray which I can't really explain seeing as it was all completely cold. And they cost £12.50 which, tbh, is a disgrace. They were unfortunate to say the least. I should have sent them back but I was so hungry that I tried to make the most of it. Unrelated, but the bar staff were lovely, I'm sorry I had to give a bad review based off the food.

The place is old and run down, just like almost everywhere in this little pocket of East London, but rather then struggle against this handicap the pub has perservered and shone through as a local boozer where everyone knows one anothers name... and an outsider isn't always welcome. I ignored the alarms going off inside my head as I took my seat, watched beadily by about 10 locals all sitting at the bar swearing at each other. I was in their end now, so I have to be careful... The bartender however could not have been nicer, even when I was just sitting in there to watch the cricket (I came back later for a pint as homage to this good service.) The TV is projected (sports) onto a big screen and Led Zeppelin/David Bowie screams in the background.. awesome. Finally, last week, whilst waiting in the arctic London temperatures, I decided it was better for both my body and spirit to wait inside. So into the Salmon & Ball I went. And it was rather pleasant. A traditional East-London boozer with the usual smattering of cool boys and old men that look like they've been glued to their bar stools since the late 60s. Bar staff were really friendly and my pint was ice cold, so no complaints here. A far better alternative than standing on the street!
