We chose the upper floor suite with view. I thought the room was spacious, modest and smoke free. We stayed during the 250th birthday of America--red, white & blue. Their concierge was helpful and professional. Parking valet is available. This hotel is just a few feet away from Central Park, coffee shops, restaurants and shopping boutiques. I recently stayed at The Plaza Hotel and, overall, I really enjoyed my stay, but unfortunately I came away feeling underwhelmed and found the property to be quite beat up. The hotel itself has an incredible history and so much potential, but it's clearly in need of a significant renovation. Much of the property feels dated, with noticeable wear and tear, including damaged furniture in the room. For a hotel of this caliber and reputation, I expected a much more polished experience. One of the main reasons I chose The Plaza was the size of the rooms, which are some of the largest you can find in New York City. That aspect definitely lived up to expectations and was appreciated, especially given how limited space can be elsewhere in Manhattan. That said, the staff was outstanding. Every employee I encountered was warm, professional, and genuinely welcoming. Room service was excellent, prompt, and one of the highlights of my stay. The fitness center was another disappointment. While the equipment was adequate, there didn't appear to be any staff monitoring the space. During one workout, several young children were running around the gym, which made it difficult to focus. I love kids, but a fitness center should remain an environment where guests can exercise safely and without unnecessary distractions. On my final morning, a personal trainer and what appeared to be a resident were carrying on an extremely loud conversation throughout my workout. I could hear them from outside the gym, and even with my headphones turned up to maximum volume, I could still hear their conversation and a phone repeatedly ringing. It was disappointing, especially from a fitness professional, who should understand basic gym etiquette and be mindful of other guests. One thing I do want to highlight is that the tea service and dining experiences at The Plaza are truly exceptional. The service during these moments is where the hotel really shines and delivers on its iconic reputation. In fact, I've noticed that many reviews focus heavily on the tea and dining experiences, which are undeniably memorable. However, they don't always reflect the actual overnight stay experience, which can be a bit misleading for guests booking a room expecting the same level of consistency throughout the property. Would I stay here again? Probably not unless the hotel undergoes major renovations. I've stayed at other comparable luxury hotels in the area, paid less, and had a noticeably better overall experience. While The Plaza's history, iconic status, and room size are undeniable, the guest experience simply didn't meet the expectations that come with its reputation. read more

We came across the famous The Plaza Hotel as we strolled down 5th Avenue towards the high end retail district. Rather nondescript in my opinion compared to all of the flash and glitz from nearby properties, but maybe understated elegance would be a better description. The Plaza is one of those well known historic landmarks in NYC that even if you've not been inside, you'be probably heard of it at one point or another. Located on the southeast corner of Central Park directly west of Grand Army Plaza, the 18-story building stands out in its French Renaissance chateau-inspired architecture details. It houses both hotel and condominiums, also several famous spaces within the building itself such as the Oak Room, the Oak Bar, the Edwardian Room, the Palm Court, the Terrace Room, and their Grand Ballroom. Completed in 1907, this building was constructed over the site of a previous hotel that stood there between 1890-1905. The hotel changed ownership numerous times in the past century, including passing thru the hands of Hilton, the Hotel Corporation of America, Westin, Sonesta, Trump, Kwek and Al-Waleed, El Ad Properties. Slightly ironic though not surprising given the foreign investment in the NY real estate market in the past few decades, this national landmark is currently owned by a Qatar state-owned enterprise Katara Hospitality. I do recall there being less fancy amenities and more unused open space in the room than one would expect. Being that it was the Plaza, I did wander around to all the areas that were open and recall the ballroom was very large and grand, and there were some beautiful chandeliers and ceiling details throughout the building. As other reviews have mentioned, Palm Court is famous for its over-the-top decorations and high tea service. When they used to let passerby enter the hotel without reservations, I used to come by once in a while to see the seasonal variations, and back then it was on and off in terms of how nice it looked, sometimes the atmosphere was more elaborate with gorgeous floral arrangements, other times considering its 5-star designation, it left a bit more polish to be desired. Can't speak to that now since it's been several years where the hotel was under renovation again and their entry policy seems to be much more strict. They used to have a food court downstairs that closed several years ago which was a nice touch, and reminded me of the fancier food courts downstairs at hotels and malls in Asia, though unfortunately that is also no more. Overall even though it's a location filled with lots of history, has some stand out architectural and design elements, and appeals to a more luxury audience, for the nightly price, unless you're a celeb that needs the level of privacy and service they might be able to provide, not sure if it's necessarily worth it. read more

Everything feels intentional from the linens to the lighting to the quiet. For being in the middle of the city it is surprisingly peaceful. You can feel the history but it does not feel dated at all. It feels cared for. Service is where the Plaza really shines. Staff are polished but warm and genuinely helpful without hovering. Every interaction feels effortless which is harder to pull off than people realize. You feel taken care of but not watched. The location is unbeatable. Central Park is right there and you are steps from shopping, dining, and everything that makes New York feel like New York. It is one of those places where you do not need to convince yourself you are having a special experience. It just is one. Yes it is expensive but that is part of what you are choosing. My team and I had afternoon tea at The Plaza's Palm Court. Since our group was large, they happily seated us at tables close to one another. The Palm Court was absolutely beautiful. Our server Porfirio started the afternoon on a high note by bringing the energy and telling us fun facts about the venue. This gave us the opportunity to joke around and have fun with our server who we even took photos with at the end. In terms of the afternoon tea, it has ruined me for all other afternoon teas as it was the best one I've ever had. For reference, we got the Central Park Afternoon Tea. I took a quick work trip to New York a couple weeks ago and spent two nights at the famous Plaza Hotel. I'd been in the building before to visit the downstairs food hall, but had only seen the hotel part in Home Alone 2. The place was opulent but a little bit dated. I don't think I would've chosen it if I'd been the one paying. I definitely enjoyed the free stay, though, and made sure to get some Kevin McCallister-style room service. The Plaza has a ton of character. Some of that character is a sort of gaudy gilded decadence, with tons of gold and porcelain, but the hotel is over a hundred years old. I kind of dug the old fixtures and general vibe of entrenched luxury. The lobby was impressive, and check-in quite easy. My room, which I think was the base level room with one king bed, was pretty big by New York standards. I tried to switch to a room with two smaller beds, as I had a friend staying with me one night, but it would have cost an extra $450. The bed was comfortable, and there was a good amount of seating. The bathroom was disproportionately large with a good shower. I did find a suspiciously curly hair on the floor as soon as I walked into the toilet room. I picked it up and flushed it, as I didn't want housekeeping to think it was mine. I got a daily $150 food and beverage credit, and I was kind of shocked by how easy it was to spend it. I maxed it out the first day with a late lunch shortly after I arrived: shrimp cocktail, a lobster roll, and a glass of Chardonnay came out to $159 once all the service charges went in. I left a few dollars on the table with lunch the next day, getting the seared tuna salad with a side of sautéed king trumpet mushrooms and a can of Diet Coke. The food was solid enough. The lobster roll was small and not especially flavorful, and the mushrooms were oddly bitter. The shrimp and salad were great, though, as were the fries that came with the lobster roll. The can of Diet Coke was, hilariously, $9 and 7.5 ounces. Room service came quickly, but it took much longer than expected for the empty tray to be taken away. Everyone I interacted with at the Plaza was nice, though, and overall I had a very pleasant stay. I wouldn't spend my own money to come back, but if anyone else wants to put me up in the Plaza, I will not refuse. read more

Absolutely AMAZING! We stayed at the Plaza for 3 nights in March 2026. I had planned an engagement weekend for my now-fiancee months in advance. The Plaza was central to the entire experienve and not only did it not disappoint, it proved to be absolutely incredible! The staff were amazing! They handled sourcing a rare champagne for me, placing flowers in the room, placing reservations at restaurants, and did it all with a sense of humor and graciousness and attentiveness that frankly I've never experienced before. We will be returning for our anniversaries. Afternoon tea in the palm Court was sublime! It is virtually impossible to eat all of the food that they serve you despite the portions being small as as customary for afternoon tea. At times we were to have three servers assisting us. One would think that it could be a stuffy environment, but to the contrary, it is absolutely not. Everyone has a sense of humor and friendliness that deflates any stuffiness that would otherwise possibly be there. I absolutely cannot wait to return. It is a special place. Having tea at the plaza was a bucket list event for me... and it exceeded every expectation! The decorations are so beautiful and the perfect backdrop for holiday pictures. We had reservations and were seated right away! Elvis was our server and he was the best. He even brought us extras of our favorite sandwiches! The holiday tea was spectacular. Every bite was perfection! My favorites were the smoked salmon sandwiches, scones, and mini chocolate pie. Incredible! I also had the chai tea and we did the champagne add on. This review is for a three nights stay at the hotel. I would highly encourage you to stay here if you are debating it. It is definitely worth the price tag. The concierge is so helpful and knowledgeable. We texted them before we even arrived to get some dinner reservations and while we were there, we got some more recommendations. The rooms are so beautiful and spacious and have everything you need. I love the robes and slippers! The shower is so luxurious and the bed was really comfy. The TV is not a smart TV, but it has a ton of channels. The spa is so nice as well and there is a fitness center and steam room within the spa that are available to hotel guests at any time. They have complementary boxed ' just water' for hotel guests. All the staff is SO kind and helpful. The staff definitely puts the plaza above other hotels. We got room service and they wheel it right next to your bed. It's presented very beautifully and was tasty - a bit pricey though. My only complaints were that the room did not have a fridge. It had a microwave, but not a fridge, which didn't make sense to us. The elevators were also very small and with a huge hotel that led to waiting for the elevator most times we needed one. read more

Prepare to be assaulted upon exiting by a marauding flock of hustlers, scammers, pedicab operators, and others trying to suss you up. In fact, exiting the Plaza is probably one of my least favorite exits in hotel history and it makes for a stressful vacation. The bar staff were exceptionally rude and several of them would hustle in the corners to complain about their co-workers and commiserate about how terrible the workplace is. I tried sharing this with management but didn't get a response. All told, one of my least favorite Fairmont experiences. read more

I had a "nice" suite (1631 )for a Week. one day we ordered room service coffee.. second morning a women came to our room and "asked" that when were done we call room service to get the cart, Very rudely, my girlfriend was sitting on the couch talking to work on her phone with her boss , while this woman went on how It can take them 4 hours when she calls, eventually my girlfriend made the mistake of rolling her eyes, which did not go over well, to say the least.( I was preparing for a fight)..obviously food service does not get along with room service who does not get along with guests. room was nice not great, Shower took 10 minutes to warm up, bath would take hours to fill if ever I had to extend our stay an extra day for $3,000/night that night no take down service / clean towels or room service.that day. heat and air/ finicky very nice hotel best location in the city service definitely lacked in areas, not a lot of drawers closet drawers hard to open as they hit closet door. big room seemed very small many better hotels with in 2 blocks , St. Regis, Peninsula, Ritz. I'm in the city often , I like big suites, won't be returning.here We were offered an upgraded room for an extra $15,000/night.rooms have no view except the building across the street. Hands down the most legendary hotel in all of New York! The Plaza is the famous hotel that Kevin McAllister stayed in the movie "Home Alone 2", it's also the hotel that the book and movie "Eloise at The Plaza" is based off of. There's an iconic scene in the 1973 movie "The Way We Were" starring Barbra Streisand and Robert Redford that takes place in from of The Plaza where she brushes his hair and says, "Your girl is lovely Hubbell". It was reenacted in the TV series "Sex and the City" where Carrie Bradshaw and Big have a similar encounter in front of the hotel. It's also in the 2009 movie "Bride Wars" with Anne Hathaway and Kate Hudson. Let's just say I'm a movie and TV buff! Anything that's featured on the big screen, I want to visit! I made it my goal during my trip to NY to stay here at the hotel. It cost me $1,300 a night (Yup! you read that right!), I stayed for a couple of days during New Year's. The hotel is pretty, but honestly the interior was a bit underwhelming. I was expecting a grand lobby, but it was a bit ordinary. My room however was gorgeous, I had a terrace room which had its own private patio. I loved the luxurious bathroom and tub. The mattress itself was a bit stiff, I would have thought they would have invested in a nicer mattress for their hotel. The room came with butler service, they'll set out your slippers for you and even have a laundry tray set out at the end of the night. Overall, I did enjoy the room. The Plaza is conveniently located on Fifth Avenue near all the high-end shopping, and it faces Central Park. The only thing I didn't enjoy about The Plaza was the service I received after my stay. It was insane trying to get ahold of someone to get an invoice, whenever I called they re-routed me multiple times to different departments and I was even hung up on. When they finally did email me the invoice it was done in a rude manner. I think there's a glitch or something in their system since I've been routinely receiving other guests' invoices too. I guess beware about your personal information being sent to others. read more

I stayed here back in 2014. Yes this is quite the late review. I arrived for check-in and the room wasn't ready. We were compensated with one free drink at the bar. Ok, not bad but not nowhere near impressive, this is supposed to be the PLAZA. The room was average. For a king suite it was sub-par. The biggest issue was the fact that the thermostat could not be adequately adjust for sleeping comfort. I left a review via fairmont and was offered a discounted rate for the next time. I've been to Manhattan 4 times since then and was so disappointed that I did not book with the "illustrious PLAZA" again. Discounted rate... give me a break. I would not recommend this hotel. No true apology nothing more than that... Unfortunately there's better options which will be much more enjoyable. read more

Enjoyed a night cap at the Plaza after a long and wonderful day strolling through New York. The service is impeccable - attentive and friendly. Ordered a Whistle Pig Whiskey on the rocks and a Strawberry Rhubarb cocktail. These came out quickly and hit the spot. They also refilled our waters numerous times without having to ask. Only surprising thing was they do tack on a 18% gratuity automatically to the bill, which I haven't seen elsewhere, especially as there were only 2 of us. read more

Busser said, "if there is anything that you cannot eat, the server would have told you." I told three different employees that I cannot do garlic (including garlic powder, marinade, etc). One of the things on my personal list has always been to stay at the Plaza Hotel during Christmas. As someone who grew up when Home Alone was in theaters it seemed like a holy-land type pilgrimage. So I booked this for one night the week of Christmas. And the following are tips that in being here one night should help you tremendously: 1.) When checking in - pull in on the side of the building facing the parklet NOT CENTRAL PARK! If you pull in, put your 4-ways on and find a bell-hop they will load up your luggage and bring it in while you check in and take your luggage to the room. 2.) Always keep your room card on you coming in and out of the building. There was some goofball who was given a little too much power who hounded everyone and then tried piping me INSIDE the hotel for my room key. I must not look like the Plaza type. We had a deluxe king room - whatever that means - the bathroom was large with a large tub, a shower walk-in, and a toilet walk-in. Luxurious and spacious. The room was great - television worked and we ordered an ice cream sundae late-night. The bed was very comfortable and even when we were out at night they turned down our bed and pulled out the slippers etc for us ready to go. So is it worth the price tag? I don't know I would say it's as close to effortless hotel stay as it gets but once may be enough for quite awhile. Every guests thinks they are more important than the next and it's just sweaty in there with people cut from that cloth.
