Chicago style deep dish

Considering I called Gino's East The best Chicago deep dish, this pizza comes to a close second. It was tasty, and it didn't feel overwhelming. I highly recommend it. I got a pizza that's good for 2 to 3 people, and this pizza was pretty big, depends on who your two or three people are, a lot more people can enjoy it.

Excellent pan pizza!

For a change of pace, we ordered a "Chicago Style Pan" pizza from our favorite pizza restaurant, The Pizza Kitchen, LLC. (I'm specifically referring to their Chicago Style Pan (CSP) pizza since they also offer Pan Crust and Stuffed Pan.) Their CSP is the closest to the famous pan pizza you are all familiar with. (If you've seen my past reviews of Pizza Kitchen, LLC I have reviewed their Thin Crust. It's my favorite thin crust pizza in DuPage County.) We ordered a 14" sausage, green pepper and black olives pizza. There are 4 areas I will discuss that I hope will convey why I think this pizza is superior to the famous guy's. First is the crust. The crust was perfectly baked to a golden color (see photo) and unlike many pan pizzas that are rushed through the oven, the crust was baked all the way through. I've often had pan pizzas where you the dough isn't quite baked throughout especially where the horizontal crust meets the vertical wall. I think you know what I mean. The crust was solid and vertical edge gave a nice "karunch" when you bit into it. I don't know how he does this without making the crust hard to chew. The crust has a mild butter flavor but it's not overpowering, nothing like the GE butter crust. Excellent execution of the crust. The sauce is a wonderfully seasoned chunky tomato sauce that's neither too spicy or acidic. Chef Rob blends oregano and other spices so well in this sauce. It complements the cheese so well. (The famous pan pizza sauce in comparison is bland and sometimes acidic.)The I rarely order cheese only pizzas but would consider a cheese only "Chicago Style Pan". The balance between cheese and sauce is perfect. Balance or toppings ratio is important to me and just as their thin crust always has a proper balance of sauce, cheese and toppings this likewise holds true with the CSP. Some places think they are doing you a favor by piling on cheese to the detriment of the other ingredients. Hey, if that floats your boat, more power to you but I like to taste all of the ingredients in each bite. The sausage is good, not heavy on fennel and doesn't overpower other toppings. He uses an appropriate amount of sausage that ensures a piece in every other bite. This allows your taste buds to appreciate the sauce, cheese and other toppings while alternately enjoying the sausage flavor. My first "pizza love" is thin crust by far. We order pan pizza maybe a couple of times a year. I'm sure many of you on this page do likewise. My guess is that you probably order from the famous guy that has lots of restaurants. Having had both I can tell you without pause that Pizza Kitchen, LLC (Wood Dale) Chicago Style Pan is a better pizza

I have ordered pizza from here many times. One of the best in the area. Crispy, fresh, flavorful. And not bad price. This place deserves love. This is the way Chicago style thin crust pizza should be. Way better than white cottage and rosatis.

One of each!

I needed a good place to take a group of Japanese colleagues to experience Chicago style pizza for the first time and The Pizza Kitchen knocked it out of the park! Traditional Chicago Deep Dish, Tavern Thin, Double Dough, Stuffed... they do it all and it is absolutely delicious. Highly recommend!

Extremely glad I made the short trip. Tortello has a casual feel: you order up front before you are seated. I ordered the cacio e pepe, plus foccacia with honey and ricotta as an appetizer. The latter was an excellent combination of flavors and textures, the savory and crunchiness of the bread with the soft creaminess and (not overwhelming) sweetness of the cheese and honey. The cacio e pepe had a high bar to clear as a result, but did so handsomely. The pasta had a pleasant bite, and the pepper and cheese were excellent. In short, a great experience. I look forward to coming here when it isn't 5 degrees outside!

There's a light casual feel because you order at the counter, but table service is still on point and prices match the white table clothes. I've walked past many times wanting to stop for dinner but they're often packed. It's first come first serve. So we lucked out with an impromptu dinner on a cold rainy evening. The heaters were on in their outdoor patio so we sat outside which can be quite romantic if you don't mind the squeeze. I most enjoyed the seasonal duck pasta (Pappardelle all'Anatra) and the focaccia with ricotta and honey; although their classic Tagliattelle Tina (popular dish denoted with a heart on the menu) was hearty and rich. Truth be told, we selected our dishes based on what we could not so easily recreate at home. And we were not disappointed!

Salad was enough for 4 - 6 people. Me and my partner had plenty of leftovers. So many ingredients almost too many to list. The ingredients that stood out were the Asparagus, mushrooms, and broccolini. Ingredients were hot and delicious. We split the Carmelized Onion Tortellini. It was magical. Great buttery taste and the Carmelized Onions oozed out of the tortellini when I cut into it with the fork. We were stuffed when we left and had enough leftovers to eat for dinner the next day. We came at lunch time & got right in. Ordered the focaccia bread. It came with olive oil & marina sauce. So amazing. Also shared the kale Ceasar salad. It was huge! Enough for 4-6. It had a lot of ingredients. Roasted asparagus, broccolini, shaved Brussels sprouts, mushrooms. It was delicious, but I would have preferred a lighter summer salad. It was hearty & warm. I'd get it again in the fall. We shared the caramelized onion tortellini. It was huge too. Amazing prices for the amount of food. It was so delicious. The onions were sweet & the pasta was perfect & fresh. Lots of leftovers to take home. Cute ambiance, friendly service. Loved that we could watch the chefs prepare the food too. Can't wait to come back for more pasta & try dessert.

First time trying Berto's today after hearing good things about their sandwiches…read more I placed an Uber Eats pickup order around 11:40 AM, and the app notified me around 11:50 that the order was ready. I arrived around noon. The place wasn't busy from a customer standpoint. There was no line, a few people eating, and four employees behind the counter preparing food. I could already see a bag with my name on it sitting behind the counter, but after standing there for a couple minutes, nobody acknowledged me. Eventually someone came over, but there was no greeting, smile, or "Can I help you?" I gave my name, he put the bag on the counter, slid it aside, and walked away without saying anything. As I started leaving, another employee called out that the order actually wasn't ready yet, despite the app saying it was. She added another sandwich to the bag, tied it up, and handed it back to me. Again with no thank you, apology, or even basic friendliness. The sandwiches were decent, but not so amazing that the customer experience doesn't matter. I'm seeing this kind of indifferent attitude at more and more restaurants lately, and it really affects whether I come back. A little acknowledgment and courtesy goes a long way.
