My wife and I enjoyed our last meal with our kids and family at the start of 2026 that we booked…read moreanother meal on Saturday and I'm glad we did. We live FT in The Sea Ranch so Harbor House is an easy drive and it's like having our own neighborhood Michelin star resort and dining in the hood. Lunch was as good as I remember it. We started with a raw smoked trout stater and it was gently smoked which kept the trout firm and with only a hint of the curing process. Their freshly made bread followed and that kelp churned butter is to die for. The next two courses were a poached black cod in a home made miso sauce that was a lesson in how to ferment properly ! Delicious. The pork loin followed and I must admit it was a little tough - perhaps not rested enough post cooking or just a little over. The dish had teenie tiny wasabi leaves among all the veggies and greens on the plate and they really imparted a lovely natural zinginess...desert was some sort of a custard with a thin meringue and some other wonderfulness that made the whole thing refreshing but not too sweet and a lovely end to the meal. It was our 34th anniversary and we had made it a point to mention it when we made the reservation but they didn't even stick a candle in the dessert they gave us as a part of the meal...which seemed a missed opportunity IMHO. Just saying, we eat out quite a bit and most of the time not to celebrate anything special so it's nice when an establishment makes mention and notice of it in some way... We had the wine pairings ($100/each) along with the five course lunch ($150/each) and they do a nice job with the pairings, mainly featuring nice Italian varietals and of course some local favorites from the area - like Baxter (Pinot) and a dessert style wine that was very nice and not something I would have normally thought to order on my own. The grounds are as beautiful as always and now that spring has sprung and the flowers on their grounds are in full bloom and the beach area is starting to take on that summer sheen - it was a stellar afternoon once again. We will be keeping this place on regular rotation for sure and we look forward to our next meal later this summer when the tomatoes are ripe and the fruits and vegetables are in all their glory ! Highly recommend.

While both dinners were exceptional, I especially appreciated the breakfasts each morning. Thank you to the team for their thoughtful hospitality and care throughout our stay. In April I got married and so I went looking for a place to stay for a mini honeymoon. The hubs and…read moreI were looking for a short and small getaway close to home (we'll be taking a longer honeymoon in August). I bought a deal for this place from Living Social. We had never gonna wine tasting before so this was our first time! This place had good reviews and the pictures of this place looked too cute. We drove all the way here from Davis. The trip was a little longer than what we expected. And all I can say is most GPS's don't know how to get you here and google maps isn't very smart. So follow the directions in the e-mail that they send you!! This place is owned by Marcia and Tony. I worked with Tony over the phone for my reservations. He wasn't the quickest with technology and taking down my information so you should have patience or make reservations online - FYI I made mine over the phone because of the Living Social deal. When we got there to check-in, we found Tony was away and Marcia was left to handle things on her own. She's a very sweet lady. She's also the one that makes all the food! Amazing cook!! The rooms are very cozy. The hubs was impressed the high-tech door lock that used a number pad. I liked that the room was like a mini 1 bedroom cottage. It had a very romantic feel to it, which was perfect. We made sure to take advantage of the fireplace and the whirlpool tub. But I think my favorite part was the bed! Very soft sheets and you just melt away into sleep. The only issue we had with the room were the bugs. Now don't let that scare you. It's just that my hubby extremely dislikes bugs. We found 2 baby spiders, 1 yellow jacket, 3 mosquitos. I think bugs are bound to get in and they weren't much of a problem for me to handle. Now the food! Yes it is also a B&B afterall. First day: we were served 4 muffins with pecans on top and honey and butter on the side. YUM!! Next was a slice of baked pineapple with toasted coconut shavings - never had this combo before and it was good. The main course was poached eggs with polenta. I was a bit skeptical, but it was good too! There was juice as well. Hubs and I opted for the pomegranate juice. Second day: margaritas with no alcohol, but still tasty! There was also homemade granola and I'm a fan of granola. The main course was BELGIAN WAFFLES! They were loaded with fruit and some bacon on the side. YUM YUM YUM! I'm a huge fan of the food here. Marcia is great! FYI, she also makes a cake every night that you can go into the main lodge and get some. The first night there was an apple cake that was just soooo good. She even gave me the recipe for it. Note: when you check-in, they ask about food allergies etc. Hubs is lactose intolerant so Marcia made sure to not put any cheese in the polenta or yogurt in the margarita.

There were candy in bowl on the dresser. Two luggage racks available for our use. There's a backdoor that leads to the patio. There's plenty of parking for guests. Good number of rooms. It wasn't overcrowded. There's also a wide selection of DVDs that guests could borrow. There were two wine glasses await on the dresser. If you want to read more, please read my previous review. I love going here in the summer. It was warm for sure. We rented bikes at Cloverdale Cyclery.

She had been here before but it was my first time and I can't say enough good things about it. Deanna and Cab clearly love their place and share it freely. We did the farm tour which was very inspirational and informative for wannabe gardeners like us! I feel inspired. We had fresh eggs and fresh picks from the garden at every meal. Beautiful views and so relaxing to just sit out in nature. Don't miss the stars at night and do not miss getting the fried chicken basket! We definitely will return, I think it needs to at least be a yearly event!

Our cozy cottage was clean with a great view of the garden and ocean. The bed is very comfortable and the provided space heater helped kept us warm at night. Only con I have to say is the pillows were very flat so we had to sleep with both pillows on top of each other for more support. I love that it had a full kitchen so you can cook delicious meals with fresh ingredients such as the daily delivered eggs straight from the chickens and greens you pick from the garden. If you want a break from cooking or want a meal prepped for when you arrive, you can add in the option of a dinner or picnic basket to your reservation as well. For the activities such as chicken chat and goat gab we weren't able to attend; it was raining pretty heavily during our stay so we opted to stay indoors and enjoy the cozy cabin. For the moments where the rain would stop, it was nice to explore the land, making stops by the bunnies and chickens with our dogs. Definitely planing on coming back! Would love to experience Mar Visita during the spring or summer!

Country Fields - Country Quiet - Country Nights - Country Simple…read more The stay at Rancho de la Fuente set the stage for our visit to Lake County. For those who appreciate an agritourism (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agritourism) getaway from the Bay Area, this is the place for you! Surrounded by 42 acres of open corn fields, sunflowers, tomatoes, watermelons, and other organic vegetables, you'll appreciate simpler, natural times. We stayed in the spacious Rock n Roll cottage. Inspired by our cottage theme, we played our favorite music during the days (without the fear of disturbing anyone) and enjoyed stargazing on our private porch at night. The room was well cleaned every day and supplied with ample towels for our days on the lake. The terrific hosts (R and F) kept the main house open for us to use the kitchen, access to free drinks and fruits, and access to Internet (I strongly urge you to stay off-line as long as possible). True to country hospitality, when we found a lack of venues for dinner, they invited us to a gracious family dinner. Many thanks for welcoming us into your family and home. Treat yourself to simple pleasures - spend the day swimming in the local watering holes, spend the evening enjoying wine at the vineyards, curl up with a John Steinbeck novel on the porch and welcome the starry night sky at the Rancho de la Fuente!

And, on a perfect spring evening on the deck with the sky fading to black over the distant hills and the temperature slowly cooling, it was magical. Started with olives, almonds and a carafe of local rose, which was delicious. This was followed by some outstanding bread with herb butter and caperberries, and local, Mendocino cured king salmon, which was a celiac special! It was delicious and herbaceous with avocado, caperberries and dill. This was followed by the salad greens with asparagus and bresaola. The bresaola was a great compliment to the greens and the asparagus was particularly unique - fresh, crisp, fresh and while not quite asparagus-y they were so good, a bit sweet. They were from Zuckerman Farms in the Sacramento valley. Next was a bowl of noodles and asparagus, ramps, very fresh fava beans (not firm or mushy!) and parsley, or the same over polenta instead of Italian pasta noodles for the gluten-free. It was simple, but fresh and rich and luxurious. Three for three at this point. The end point was duck confit with oranges and kumquats over wild rice with some greens. The duck was perfectly cooked, although a tad too salty. Nonetheless, we cleaned the plates. And, who would have paired rosemary with oranges (?) but it worked. The meal was finished with vanilla ice cream over meringue, topped with lemon curd, and fresh strawberries and rhubarb, both of which were not only fresh but redolent of the flavors that they appear to have otherwise lost. The wine list is small but we greatly enjoyed both the pinot rose from Scribe and the pinot noir from Drew. I remain very frustrated by all of their fees and add on costs. Yet, I don't feel cheated or that it was all unreasonable in the end.

Every detail, from the freshly cut flowers inside the room to the garden and living room in the main house, is purposeful and elegant. I also should mention the food, which is excellent! The culture of the Anderson Valley gracefully comes through with every bite. In fact, the food alone is worth the trip. I have been to many Michelin-rated restaurants. While the meal might not be accompanied by the chef's life story, everything about the food, the dining atmosphere, and the local ingredients is every bit Michelin quality. A few other tidbits: Kid friendly, plenty of space to play in the backyard, but no games, no pool. The sister restaurant, Offspring at the Farrer Building, across the street has the same food, but also pizza and a few other kid friendly options. Two onsite EV charging stations. They both work great; the front desk needs to remotely turn them on. Looking forward to my next stay!
