I found Cherry on Yelp and messaged her just a few days ahead of the Tuesday night event. She responded with her quote and the relevant details, and after mulling over whether or not to spend the money, I secured the appointment with a deposit the night before. She only had a 1:00 slot available, but she was able to come to me, meeting me in my hotel room. She arrived right on time with an arsenal of beauty supplies. I liked her immediately. She was so friendly and energetic, and said flattering things about my skin, obviously music to my 39-year-old ears. I had a great time hanging out with her. She asked what I was looking for and I said I was walking a red carpet and just wanted to look good. She took me through her overall plan and started with my eye makeup, layering on colors and checking in to see if I was okay with the level of drama. I didn't know enough to weigh in and let her do her thing, and less than an hour later, I was fully dolled up. She even put fake eyelashes on top of my already fake eyelashes. To be honest, I was a little worried at first. I looked very dramatic for two in the afternoon, and I wondered if I'd let her go overboard. Once I was dressed and at the premiere, though, I felt fairly confident and comfortable and got lots of compliments. I walked the carpet, the second time I've done that in my life, and stood and posed awkwardly for a million photos. I've seen the pictures from both events and am really glad I got my makeup done this time around. The bolder makeup just worked better with those bright lights. I'm not professionally pretty (I'm a writer, which is, if anything, an ugly person's job) so it was fun to get my face painted and hang out with the attractive people who go to television premieres. I booked a trial, at which Emi was responsive to my requests and preferences, but also had great recommendations for both my make-up and hair that would look good in photos, feel comfortable, last throughout the day/night, and flatter my features. The day-of my wedding, she 100% hit the mark. I've never felt more beautiful and comfortable with full make-up and hair (normally I don't feel like myself with full make-up and hair). Everything she did for me was flattering, classy, modern, and perfect for the setting/occasion... really exactly what I wanted and I didn't need to give her much input at all. You can tell from her portfolio of work that she has great range, but for anyone who prefers a modern but natural look (like me!) but still wants to look their absolute best for an important day and the many, many photos that would be taken, Emi knew exactly what to do.
