Ordered a cake from Amanda and everything was good up until the week of the pick up date. There was no communication on her end, so I reached out to confirm the order and pick up. I even called her because the day before pick up, she was not in any communication. The cake was a disaster, it did not survive a 20 minute car ride. It was a 2 layer cake and the top layer started sliding and collapsed. This was my sons first birthday so I was frantic. When I reached out to her with a photo, she said, 'oh this can be fixed with some buttercream' ?!??????!!! Am I baker? Do I know how to do this? NOT AT ALL. When I reached out to her after the party, she blamed the transportation for the cake not getting there in one piece. I've never heard a cake doing this while someone is holding onto it in a car. Never offered any compensation or even another cake so that my son could have his proper first birthday. All she could say was, I worked hard on it too and this upsets me too. I had big dreams for my wedding. I wanted a 1920's Great Gatsby wedding and I had everything planned to the T. One of the easiest and best experiences I had with a vendor was with The Pin-Up Kitchen. From the start Amanda was quick to reply, very thorough and very nice. I spoke to her for the first time in 2019 when I started planning my wedding. We set a date for 2020 and unfortunately, Covid restrictions forced us to postpone and Amanda made sure that a year from then, we would be taken care of. At the time when I was to book the cake sampling appointment, I got Covid. Amanda went out of her way, made the 5 samples, portioned them in beautiful mason jars and allowed for my assistant to pick them up from her. It was very difficult to choose which one we wanted because all of them were delicious. It took us days to decide, sampling a little bit each day until we made a decision. We went with the lemon cake with the lemon filling and boy are we glad we did. It was a hit. On the day of the wedding upon seeing the cake, everybody was in awe at how majestic and beautiful it came out. 4 tiers of pure gorgeousness and the tastiest cake ever. People were literally going back for 2nds and 3rd's. I made sure to save the top tier for my husband and I to share on our first wedding anniversary. The cake was in the freezer for most of that year until we purchased a home in another state. There were many discussions on how we would get it there. We decided to keep in it a cooler with dry ice and it withstood not only the test of time, but a 32-hour drive to Texas in the summer. On October 30, we finally got to eat our anniversary piece and it was just as delicious as the day of our wedding. Just as pretty too. Amanda was a joy to work with. She knew her assignment and she truly knocked it out of the park. I highly, HIGHLY recommend hiring her for ALL your custom cake needs. read more

This is our second cake from Amanda and it was great. There was some mis-communication on my end but the cake was a HUGE hit! I had asked Amanda for a 3-D cake of the car that won LeMans in 1966 - I should have said the Ken Miles GT40. I ended up with the car that technically "won" but Ken Miles had the win in the eyes of most of the race-following-fans. It made for a fun story at the party. We ended up with Bruce McLaren's car (#2 black and white) instead of Ken Miles (#1 blue and orange.) Still a great cake sculpture of a GT40. So Ken Miles lost again. :) Sorry Ken. Nothing like the cake design I requested.... I'm not sure where the miscommunication happened but my cake was supposed to look like the picture attached and the only change i asked her to do is to replace the skulls and place skull animals and change the frosting colors to purple and green from the rims not the whole cake. She told me she understood what I wanted and I trusted her... well I shouldn't of cause she gave me a totally different cake! I was so disappointed that it wasn't like the design I sent her.... I wanted to cry since it was my wedding day and the cake was supposed to be perfect. I reached out to her about my dissatisfaction on the cake design and we agreed on a partial payment. It's been two days and she hasn't returned my emails about my refund... I wasn't going to leave a review because I expected her to keep her promise and refund me parcial payment but after not hearing from her for a few days I just decided to leave an honest review. It was a good tasting cake but my stomach dropped when i saw what I received... nothing like my wedding theme. Update: after Amanda saw my review. She decided not to refund me. Yelp is a platform for honest reviews. She misunderstood my idea but because of this review she said to just humiliate her and she isn't going to refund me anymore. I was not trying to humiliate her at all. There was miscommunication on her part that lead to my cake looking totally different. She told me she understood what I wanted. Also she never told me when she was going to refund me, until i received the last email and now she is refusing to refund me cause of this review... I told you that the animal skulls designs don't have to look exactly the same. Not the WHOLE CAKE! I never asked to change my cake how you designed it. I gave you a PDF detailed "Cake Design" as that is the cake I wanted but only the colored frosting to be changed and added the skull animals. Amanda was really responsive when I wanted a cake. I even changed my idea from a Vegas style cake to a Dodgers cake. She was able to take payment via Venmo which was very convenient, down payment was half of the price of the cake. There were a couple things I was disappointed about considering the photos on yelp and the Idea I had in my head. I asked for a Dodgers cake with a little glove on the top of the cake. The main thing that stuck out was the cake was very off in color. It was more a baby blue than the darker blue. This was just a little more obvious in color difference than I wanted. I am usually not that picky so that was a little disappointing. Also, I thought I was going to get a sugar sheet coating (it was in the photo I sent her), but I got one with icing instead. I just wish these things were gone over before moving forward with the price of the cake, because I would have paid more if that was the case. The cake was very tasteful though.
