Chicken Wings. I can eat them as fast as anyone can make them.
Having met a kindred spirit who apparently also happens to have Chicken Wings as a spirit animal, my somewhat limited experience with regards to the really good wing places in Manila suddenly widened. Her, and now my, favorite, would have to be The Pillars' chicken wings.
Now, The Pillars is actually a very curious place. At the ground level, it's a small bar, the type populated by a small group of regular old men, who in turn bring in younger people, all to become regulars as well. Upstairs is an entirely different animal, where it suddenly becomes a karaoke place, smoky and chock-full of singers. My friend and I stuck to the downstairs area.
The best description for the Chicken Wings is "beer match". These wings, tangy, spicy, and very piquant if you ask them to make it so, are served up to you well-covered in the sauce, but not soggy with it. With the atmosphere of the downstairs area and the strains of bad karaoke singing leaching through the floorboards from the upstairs area, you'll be subtly reminded that this is not a soft drinks and water place, and the wings are not a soft drinks and water wings.
