So I would like to update this review because there have been significant changes over at…read moreBarsculpt. I was a long-term customer there, with a regular weekly schedule and LOVED the class itself and my usual instructor. The owner very recently downsized to a small studio which made for some really inconvenient changes that are really hard to ignore. The first is parking, the old location had a decent amount available, but the new space in the State Theatre building does make it challenging if you're commuting. The second is the price hike. I used to get my 5 class pass for barre only for $55, which was a steal. Totally would have been okay with a reasonable update to align with competitors but it was hiked to $100 for a 5 class pass, which is really unreasonable in my opinion. Granted this price includes reformer and barre, but for someone who doesn't do reformer classes it's definitely not worth it. The last piece is the class times. They used to have a wide variety and I always had at least 4-6 people in my 5:30p classes. The new space only has classes until 12-12:30 which is truly not helpful for people with jobs! Overall, still a huge fan of barsculpt as a class but not a fan of the new space or business practices.

I like this place so much I bought a gift certificate for a friend so she could join me. She now goes as much as I do. She LOVES it. Confession: for a long time, I did not exercise (other than walking everywhere) because I found it boring. The workouts at Barsculpt always change. It is truly never the same thing twice. It's always a challenge. Going to Barscuplt not only help me get in the best shape of my life, it has help me calm down, feel centered, and more connected to the community of Portland. I cannot recommend this place highly enough.

Wendee is very mindful and knowledgeable about our anatomy and modifies to each individual student. She gives great instructions and seems to come up with unique movements. Since attending classes I'm more flexible, have better balance and muscle length. It is a great workout for all body parts. The owner/instructor, Wendee Rogerson, is a Pilates Certified instructor. Wendee is also a certified aerial yoga instructor. With her professional dance background (she has an impressive dance resume!), Pilates training and studies in anatomy, I feel I get a thorough workout with a professional who is paying close attention to my goals and safety. The studio is friendly and clean. The reformers are authentic. Clients are of all ages. There are a variety of class levels and times offered all week. Classes are reasonable prices and free parking (not like studios downtown). Bonus? The studio shares the same parking lot as a health food store! I strongly recommend Scarborough Pilates! It is addicting!

This is a wholehearted shout-out to Pasha Marlowe of Roots and Springs! She is a holistic personal…read moretrainer...she is my trainer...and she is a beautiful breath of fresh air in the crowded field of wellness. Pasha stands out. She turns the old stories upside down. I never thought I would work with a personal trainer. But Pasha is different...and I decided I'm worth the investment to meet my wellness goals as an entrepreneur and mother in my mid-40s! I came to Pasha with some injuries (shoulder issues and SI Joint Dysfunction) and a desire to get stronger and to find relief from chronic stress. I was feeling frustrated because although I live a pretty active life, I have not been able to stick to a strength training routine at home. I don't have time to drive the 30 minutes to the gym (and do not enjoy myself in these settings). Pasha worked with me one-on-one to develop a sensible, fun, and customized program that I could stick to in the comfort of my own HOME . She is incredibly encouraging, highly intuitive, and wise. I feel so nurtured and supported in her presence. She has helped me see just how active I already am, and has helped me celebrate in a new way. Rather than beating myself up about what I'm NOT doing, I'm focusing on what I AM doing. This mindset shift has allowed me to look forward to my exercises, and I naturally want to keep going and see how strong I can get. I've had sessions in the studio, but also a Zoom video session where I felt like she was right in my home with me! The whole session was recorded too. Amazing! So during those times that I can't drive to the studio, I can Zoom with Pasha and stay on track. I highly recommend working with Pasha. She has also just launched an amazing program: ROAR with LAUGHTER"
