I first heard about The Pie Shop earlier this year and was reminded about it by a recent news article, prompting me to take a train ride to Moira to check it out, combining that with a visit to McCartney's butcher and delicatessen across the street and a search for a nice cafe nearby for lunch.
The Pie Shop has a fine range of savoury pastry case pies. I've been there twice so far and have had four of their pies. I combined the first two with cheeses and salads from McCartney's across the street.
The pies are well-filled and very tasty, and not swimming in gravy like a lot of supermarket pies.
The Pie Shop also has a range of chutneys. I have had two of these, both from the Polly and Archie's label, based in Larne. One was plum and mulled berries, the other beetroot, both delicious. read more
