This place seems to have been here since the dawn of time, by dawn of time I must mean 1985 or shortly after because I simply do not remember this wee cafe/restauraunt/team room not being in the centre of Bangor serving tea and scones to old women. There is plenty on offer for a wee cuppa or to head in and get a quick bite to eat for lunch of afternoon tea. The stuff is very nice but is pretty expensive, you will certainly be left reeling by some of the prices but its all home made and is lovely quality and always very tasty. I would definitely recommend the Ulster Fry as long as you don'y mind the staff being a bit weird with you. Its right in the centre of town so parking can be tough at busy times but you can always park round behind ASDA or down at the marina and just dander here. read more

The Heatherlea is not a place I would usually choose to go for lunch, it is always busy and as others reviewers have said is pretty expensive. But today I was in Bangor and the weather was awful so instead of traipsing through the rain and gales we decided to seek refuge in the Heatherlea. It was a whole lot quieter than usual, the older clientele that usually frequent the Heatherlea must have feared that they would melt in the Bangor showers. Because it was so quiet we managed to get served right away in the Café, we opted for 2 open Prawn sandwiches and 2 cups of Coffee. This all came to £13.95 which is not too bad when you consider the quality of the produce. The portions were great and the traditional wheaten bread was delicious. The coffee was not the finest that I have ever tried but the Heatherlea is famed for its baking not its coffee. Overall I have to say it was a very enjoyable experience, the staff were very friendly and the food was excellent. It may be a little more expensive than a lot of other places in Bangor but I do not think its quality can be matched. read more

I have kinda mixed feelings about the Heatherlea but the fact that I keep going back must mean that the positives outweigh the negatives. Let's get the negatives out of the way first. The Heatherlea isn't the cheapest bakery in the world and what gets right up my nose is the tiny little extra charges they make. Would you like your crusty loaf sliced? That'll be 2p then. Would you like a box for the 10 cream buns you are spending £8 on? That'll be 2p too. It's not the 2p (clearly) that annoys me, it's the principle of it. Also, some of the more mature staff aren't as friendly as they could be - nothing openly rude but just a slight vibe that you are getting on their nerves. Ok, so now the good stuff. All of the home bakery stuff is fab - tray bakes, muffins, scones, cakes and bread. All fresh, good quality and taste great. The deli counter also sells delicious food - salads, cooked meats, ready made lasagne and quiches which you could pass off as home made. Sandwiches and rolls made to order are good too. The coffee shop does a great breakfast - the Ulster Fry is hugely popular on a Saturday morning as are the bacon rolls which is my usual choice and both of these are very reasonable priced. Set aside the annoyance of having to pay for a box to put your buns in and you'll love anything you buy in the Heatherlea. read more

I like this place but it's way too dear!... it's hard to just give Heatherlea one definition as its three eateries rolled into one. As you enter the shop there is the bakery with all the scrumptious cakes, tray bakes and home made breads. The cinnemon and apple cake is so nice and the fudge cake is to die for. They also sell all their own homemade produce such as preserves, chilli jam, and birthday cakes. The next counter up is the deli and they offer a great selection but again it is not cheap at all - I decided to see what I could get for two pounds - nothing is the answer! the lasagna from the deli counter was 6 pounds! The other half of the shop is a cafeteria/restaurant with some gorgeous ready made plates of dinner made up. They have a little hummous, bread and dip selection but i couldn't afford it with two pounds - in fact i couldnt even afford a cup of tea and a biscuit. I will go here when i can afford a treat as the bakery is really splendid but as for every day bits, it's the supermarket for me! read more

I love a good bakery and for quality produce Heatherlea is pretty up there. I was however slightly put off by the prices, Its on the high side here, and while yes the food is great and the quality fresh and fabulous its a bit steep for some things. They offer a bakery counter with cakes, breads and tray bakes of all shapes and sizes and then a deli counter with a nice expensive selection, or if you want to chill out for a while you can sit in their cafe part. Its usually very busy in here and I know lunchtime is hectic and best avoided. That being said, try the fudge cake! It's awesome! read more

The Heatherlea has become almost a town landmark. Popular with old and young alike and tourists seem to head there as well. Their bakery counter is filled with freshly baked bread produce (which would be expected from a bakery) and I have to say, their large range of buns are more than worth going out of your way for. The cafe side of it is always busy, my main complaint being that the tables are too close together, but I understand the need to have those extra seats. They serve pretty much everything from sandwiches and cake slices, to stew, chilli potatoes and Ulster fry's. The food is always of a high quality but is generally overpriced and the staff are mostly pleasant, even on busy busy days. So, slightly pricey, but generally worth the extra coinage. read more

I've been going there since my days at university and it's always been known for its quality and friendly staff. I would certainly recommend it to anyone in Bangor wanting some lunch. This is my favourite place to go!!! I love it, when people say it's expensive I honestly don't think it is, as you pay what you get for and everything is amazing!! It's worth the money trust me !!!! I recommend it to everyone as the food is amazing, very clean, friendly staff and fast service. People always complain that it's too busy, but doesn't that say something that it's amazing well I think it does!! I recommend this place to everyone !!! read more
