There is a huge selection of treats like paradise buns, raspberry tarts and lots of traybakes. They make fresh scones, sodas, breads and sausage rolls everyday along with takeaway lunches like salmon on weathen and salad. Huge slices of pavlova and cheesecakes. The carrot cake is delish!! The staff are really lovely and the manager is particularly good and quite funny! Well worth a visit!

I've been visiting Knotts Holywood branch for years but I thought it was time to put pen to paper…read moreor fingers to keys to express my affection for the place. The Knotts in Holywood is tiny in comparison to the larger Newtownards store but it still pack a punch. Each day the shop is stocked with fresh bakery items, sandwiches and salads. One piece of advice I would give is that if you are wanting to get your lunch from Knotts go as early as possible as they stock sells quickly and once it's gone it's gone. For instance on my latest visit they only had 2 salads remaining. This may be due to how cheap they are - a salad box will only set you back £3.95. The food itself is excellent - the salad boxes are filling, fresh and healthy and the buns are moreish and unhealthy which is a deadly but irresistible combination. They also make cakes to order so next time you have a celebration think of Knotts before you rush out to the supermarket. Last but not least the staff are top notch - they always greet you with a smile and talk you through the daily specials.

Their bakery counter is filled with freshly baked bread produce (which would be expected from a bakery) and I have to say, their large range of buns are more than worth going out of your way for. The cafe side of it is always busy, my main complaint being that the tables are too close together, but I understand the need to have those extra seats. They serve pretty much everything from sandwiches and cake slices, to stew, chilli potatoes and Ulster fry's. The food is always of a high quality but is generally overpriced and the staff are mostly pleasant, even on busy busy days. So, slightly pricey, but generally worth the extra coinage.

The Pie Shop has a fine range of savoury pastry case pies. I've been there twice so far and have had four of their pies. I combined the first two with cheeses and salads from McCartney's across the street. The pies are well-filled and very tasty, and not swimming in gravy like a lot of supermarket pies. The Pie Shop also has a range of chutneys. I have had two of these, both from the Polly and Archie's label, based in Larne. One was plum and mulled berries, the other beetroot, both delicious.

Smör is based in The Square, Comber, close to the junction with Killinchy Street. It operates from a container within the grounds of a large former house called Aureen. This was once the home of Comber Distillery owner John Miller, the great uncle of Thomas Andrews of the Titanic but the building is now designated for commercial use. Smör operates on mornings from Wednesday to Saturday, opening at 8am and selling out quite quickly. They have a range of Swedish roulade-shaped buns with choices including cinnamon, Biscoff and blueberry. There are also chocolate cookies and a choice of hot drinks.

A personal favourite has to be chicken tikka on their crusty baguette but their soups are also great changing all the time and never just a boring vegetable. They also have a very well-stocked delicatessen which includes an impressive cheese counter and it was this delicatessen which I recently explored. When I made my first visit to The Pie Shop across the street, I wanted to combine the pies with delicatessen stuff out of McCartney's, particularly salads and cheeses. I wanted two blue cheeses and I opted for Shropshire Blue (which I already knew from long ago) and a totally unfamiliar one called Blue Murder by Alex James of Blur. Now that was a find! I definitely want more. Salad-wise, I opted for a broccoli, carrot and nut salad which is in a mayonnaise mix. That's also my favourite side salad at a local deli and this is fairly similar to that. I already know how well it goes with lasagne and it's great with pastry pies too.

When we arrived it was busy, we were told to take a menu, sit and order at the bar. Some people came in and I think were used to waiting to be seated so in order to get a seat just walk in and work away. Very busy with families and couples and service was fast. I got poached egg and bacon on sourdough, which included two of each items. The egg was fab - the yolk was so yellow and just right its the best I've had in a long time, it was really tasty. The cappuccino was also smooth and went down well. Himself had the same breakfast finished by a tea which was an authentic tea leaf cuppa. It's also a help yourself to water over at the side and they have some infused with lemon and mint which is refreshing. Not an extensive breakfast menu but I often think the smaller the menu the better quality of the good. They also do matcha lattes. Good atmosphere and buzz about the place in pleasant fresh surrounding. Also the seat was really comfy and there were numerous sockets for phones and laptops so you could come in and work away while grazing. Large outside area for seating as well.
