The Pewter Mug is my go-to place for prime rib. I will, 99 percent of the time, order the prime rib here. The one percent I strayed. I ordered their duck. Not the best duck I have ever had, in fact, it was one of the worst. This really bothered me, so I went somewhere else later and tried. the duck. It's me. I no longer like duck dang at my age, and my taste buds have changed. I wish I remembered the server's name, but I seem to always wind up in her section. She is always spot on with her service, and I am always happy to have her. I go back to the days of the Pewter Mug, when it was modeled after a World War 2 bunker. Ambiance is fine and the noise level is finely shielded by a tall wall from the bar area. My favorite spot is their salad bar with soup, bread, cheese at one end. First time dining here. Sat at the bar. Plenty of seating available. Prices seem high initially, but with soup, salad, and bread, I guess I can make sense of it. My husband really enjoyed his French dip. My shrimp carbonara didn't taste very fresh. The sauce seemed thick and not very appetizing. Salad bar was good - like any basic salad bar. I like that they make the dressings in house. Clam chowder was not good (being from New England). Bar is spacious and had a good drink menu even though we did not partake. This is definitely a jewel of a place to eat, but also great for special occasions. The salad bar, soup bar and bread bar were amazing and totally fresh and amazing.. I usually don't eat Prime Rib out, because my husband makes it better, but this Prime Rib was perfect as was the Creamed Spinach with bacon. Our waitress Kristi was great, and very attentive. She directed us to the salad bar and when we were almost done , she asked if it was okay to put in our entrees. That was perfect and usually not done very much anymore, but then your food comes out it's hot. My Espresso Martini was the best I've had in quite sometime. The ambiance was very nice, it's not too loud and the tables were not too close, it felt like home. Not only was the salad bar kept fresh and restocked by kind workers, but they had such a great variety of toppings, pasta salads, soups (on this particular evening it was broccoli and italian wedding soup), dinner rolls, cheeses, and more. Ok so some friends said this place was good and we came with another couple. The ambience is akin to visitors' night at the senior center: shockingly bright lights and furnishings that look like they came from the Walmart discount center. The beverage options were pretty basic. They offer a salad bar, which is rare to find these days, and was pretty good. This place is known for prime rib and the two people who ordered it seemed to like it. I had chicken prima verde, which was quite acceptable. One thing they do that I hate is send the food out with runners--the runner ends up asking you who had which dish. Come on--install a basic code system and act like each customer matters. Overall, yeah I would go back but grudgingly. There are a million options, half of which I like better. This is a casual dining spot - it's not fancy. I love their salad bars, especially their broccoli and macaroni salads. Grab a chilled plate and enjoy a variety of salad and toppings. Their soups rotate and I've had their clam chowder (sometimes it's lumpy), french onion, tomato basil, bacon baked potato, Italian wedding soup and I'd suggest trying a little cup since it's generally average and overly salty. There's also self-serve cubed cheese, bread and butter. Their prime rib is the bomb. It's already cooked so if you're hungry for some prime rib, ask your server to go ahead and bring it out asap. The flinestone 20oz cut is not on the menu anymore (close to $70). Dip it in the hot au jus and a bit of grated horseradish and enjoy your night! The Pewter Mug North is quite a treat! It is pricy, but very, very good. It's somewhere I go for special occasions. Prime rib is my favorite food and they do not disappoint. It is always cooked perfectly and very tender. The salad bar is phenomenal! There's so many options, and everything is so fresh. There's usually two soups to choose from, a variety of rolls and cubed cheese, and not to mention all the salad! It's a great salad bar and always restocked in a timely manner. My parents spend the winters in Naples and this is one of their favorite restaurants. I love prime rib so I was game! First off, the salad bar. I know. I know. Some people think they are the grossest but this is quite the opposite! They are constantly rotating veggies and filling and cleaning. I felt like the salad bar was the cleaner than most door handles It was fresh, hearty and fun to make your own salad from the good old school salad bar! If you get there before 6:30(?), the salad bar is included with your meal. The best part, it's all you can eat veggies and soup! The Italian Wedding Soup was one of the better ones I've had...not overly salty. The prime rib was great, however, I did need to add salt to my liking as it could have used a tad more seasoning. I've come to the realization they probably don't use much salt in SWFL during the winter months! The sweet potato was my favorite part of the entire meal! Sweet, salty, and left me wanting more. My family used to frequent the original Pewter Mug down on the Imperial River and US41 when I was a kid. It was one of the few great restaurants in the area when SW Florida was still relatively unheard of and pretty small. It was dynamite back then, known for their signature prime rib and salad bar. Well, decades later, the same formula still works in their new location just a mile and a half north in a much larger location. Doors open at 4 for the bar, where you can get your "early bird" on with some drinks and food in the spacious lounge area. They offer a bar menu with about 10 to 12 different items for eat-in only until 6:00 every day. Handmade cocktails were hitting the table in record time as well. Seating for the main restaurant begins at 4:30, and by 5:30 on a Wednesday, forget about it! You better have a reservation, because the place was slammed with hungry people. It is season, but nice to see that the Pewter Mug handled the crowd like they've been doing this for 50 years. Oh, wait, they have! The service was dynamite. Our server was a native of SWFL just like me, so we hit it off like old friends. But, watching her handle not only our table of 4, but the neighboring tables of 10, 12 and 8 at the same time with expertise and grace while keeping us lubricated quickly with drinks, food, and laughs was inspiring. The salad bar is included with your prime rib dinner with unlimited trips! Everything was fresh and delicious. Prime rib brought me back to the same tender, delicious flavors that I remember from the '70s and '80s that made us always beg mom and dad to take us for dinner once or twice a year. No reason to change anything that seems simple, but also takes care, attention to detail and lots of practice to get just right. The meat melts in your mouth with all the necessary accoutrements to make it a dynamite meal. Key lime pie at the end with a candle to celebrate my big birthday, too. Thanks!
