The Pewter Mug is my go-to place for prime rib. I will, 99 percent of the time, order the prime rib here. The one percent I strayed. I ordered their duck. Not the best duck I have ever had, in fact, it was one of the worst. This really bothered me, so I went somewhere else later and tried. the duck. It's me. I no longer like duck dang at my age, and my taste buds have changed. I wish I remembered the server's name, but I seem to always wind up in her section. She is always spot on with her service, and I am always happy to have her. I go back to the days of the Pewter Mug, when it was modeled after a World War 2 bunker. Ambiance is fine and the noise level is finely shielded by a tall wall from the bar area. My favorite spot is their salad bar with soup, bread, cheese at one end. First time dining here. Sat at the bar. Plenty of seating available. Prices seem high initially, but with soup, salad, and bread, I guess I can make sense of it. My husband really enjoyed his French dip. My shrimp carbonara didn't taste very fresh. The sauce seemed thick and not very appetizing. Salad bar was good - like any basic salad bar. I like that they make the dressings in house. Clam chowder was not good (being from New England). Bar is spacious and had a good drink menu even though we did not partake. This is definitely a jewel of a place to eat, but also great for special occasions. The salad bar, soup bar and bread bar were amazing and totally fresh and amazing.. I usually don't eat Prime Rib out, because my husband makes it better, but this Prime Rib was perfect as was the Creamed Spinach with bacon. Our waitress Kristi was great, and very attentive. She directed us to the salad bar and when we were almost done , she asked if it was okay to put in our entrees. That was perfect and usually not done very much anymore, but then your food comes out it's hot. My Espresso Martini was the best I've had in quite sometime. The ambiance was very nice, it's not too loud and the tables were not too close, it felt like home. Not only was the salad bar kept fresh and restocked by kind workers, but they had such a great variety of toppings, pasta salads, soups (on this particular evening it was broccoli and italian wedding soup), dinner rolls, cheeses, and more. Ok so some friends said this place was good and we came with another couple. The ambience is akin to visitors' night at the senior center: shockingly bright lights and furnishings that look like they came from the Walmart discount center. The beverage options were pretty basic. They offer a salad bar, which is rare to find these days, and was pretty good. This place is known for prime rib and the two people who ordered it seemed to like it. I had chicken prima verde, which was quite acceptable. One thing they do that I hate is send the food out with runners--the runner ends up asking you who had which dish. Come on--install a basic code system and act like each customer matters. Overall, yeah I would go back but grudgingly. There are a million options, half of which I like better. The bread was not made in house, but you could choose from a number of options. I had the coconut shrimp and it was very average. What saved it was the citrus marmalade. If you get there before 6:30(?), the salad bar is included with your meal. The best part, it's all you can eat veggies and soup! The Italian Wedding Soup was one of the better ones I've had...not overly salty. The prime rib was great, however, I did need to add salt to my liking as it could have used a tad more seasoning. I've come to the realization they probably don't use much salt in SWFL during the winter months! The sweet potato was my favorite part of the entire meal! Sweet, salty, and left me wanting more. First time customers. Our Server was very good. She was attentive asking us if we were done with the salad bar and ready for her to put our order in we gave her 20-30 mins before. That was excellent as we never felt rush at all. My wife and sister tried the escargot that had a melted cheese blend. My wife liked it but my sister did not like. I passed as I ate escargot and am not a fan. 10 oz Prime Rib I ordered was just okay. I ordered medium and it was more med/rare. Not bad just not as tasty as I had anticipated reading the reviews. I will not order Prime Rib again. My wife had Blackened Shrimp Carbonara. It was pretty good. My sister had fish and chips but substituted baked potato. She said her fish was just okay. She said she will not order again. We will go back as the ambiance, soup and salad bar all are very good. Our total bill was $137 which included two glasses of wine and a coke.
