I recently visited one of The Perfect Thing estate sales and was treated rudely by every person I encountered. I go to estate sales all the time and I was floored by the curt and unprofessional behavior of the sales people - one of whom was in charge. I will make sure we don't stop at one of their sales again. I read some other reviews of the company with the same comment of rude treatment so it seems there is a pattern here. I don't normally even write reviews, but the attitude I got at the sale was so awful I felt compelled to say something here. read more

Had to wait to go in--they gave us a ticket to get in??? Nothing in the house was of "wait" value. Too many people working there in such a small house. read more

This place is great. My wife and I have been shopping at the Perfect Thing since they opened ten years ago and have purchased several items for our home. They have an amazing (and huge!) selection of quality furniture. We've never put anything up for consignment with them, but from what I know about how they work, they are always fair and realistic. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable about the items for sale and general home decorating. I would strongly recommend stopping by the Perfect Thing when looking for exceptional furniture. read more

They donated my chair to charity without giving any formal warning they were going to do so. I had a 90 day agreement with them and emailed at the end of it asking for an update May 24th . It didn't sell but the owner Kate offered to extend it through the end of June. By mid July they donated it without any FYI of come get your chair or we are donating. (To their 'defense' Kate did ask me in the May 24th email what I wanted to do with the chair if it didn't sell but I didn't reply since I was unsure and kinda of hoped it would be sold, but she obviously had my email and phone number and a second/last attempt to get direction from me would have been nice. ) Also I called earlier this spring for an update and asked about it but they didn't even know where it was.....sounded extremely disorganized...apparently they were moving...should have gotten it back then. The chair was a little loud in style but very nice quality...in fact Kate appraised it at $600 only to turn around in donate it. I'd recommend going through a craigslist Wheaton's mom's board or some other site before rolling the dice with these folks. read more

Went out of our way to find this shop and were disappointed. We were never greeted even though we were in right after it opened and the only people in the store. Many items still on display had sold signs on them. The prices were pretty outrageous as well. Won't be returning. read more

Yea, so I stopped here as a tourist because I was in the area and had seen the show "What the sell?". It's a nice place and the employees are nice. Most of the store is very expensive furniture and larger items. Since I had to get on a plane, all of that was out (also, I suspect you could find this type of stuff cheaper elsewhere). I went to look for some jewelery for my wife, but they have a very small case with not much stuff in it. Up at the front there is some glasware and smaller items that are not too expensive. I got a few little items (maybe $10 pieces, total around $50). The young lady there seemed just as happy ringing me out for this small sale as if she had sold something large. If I am back in the area iwth my famil,y I'll probably take them there, but I doubt we'd find anything to buy; it seems like you'd be better off shopping as a local because just about everything here is physically larger (furniture, chests, etc). read more

I LOVE this store or used to. I was in last week they're having a big sale so I was quite excited. My excitement was dampened with the first ten minutes. The owners should know whoever is behind the counter and in the office are completely ruining your business. The snarky behavior completely ruined this store- the same Place I wrote a review praising the shop -having the best people ,items, pricey but amazing. However the same girl and I say girl because last month when I made a small purchase she was a sweet women, and I shrugged off her comments about the boss ( who from her conversation is female and not respected). Well I saw the same attitude from her again but another girl joined her. Women don't do that children do, and this store was ruined by their catty actually rude comments about customers and I believe employees . I'm sorry there is not enough beauty in your store to cover the ugliness. I hope the owner reads this because this once great place has horrible staff. read more

We used The Perfect Thing for our estate sale in Aurora and were very pleased with their expertise, professionalism and honesty. I would highly recommend using them for your estate sale. They fit us in on short notice, did a wonderful job and helped us pre- and post sale. Great people to work with. read more

This is more in response to who runs their estate sales. The crew here is very rude and not personable whatsoever. The cashier and the head lady need people skills . These are estate sales not Sotheby's. There are a group of 20 of us that will never walk into one of their estate sales ever ever again. They make you feel very uncomfortable and they talk down to you. I would definetely pass they need a class on on how to work with clients and the public. Just go to one of their sales and observe for yourself. read more

Customer service is horrible. Staff encourages emails, photos and phone messages. No response. They should just say they can't take any new consignments. Put items on Craigslist. Sold in a week. No fees. read more

Still waiting for our share of the consignment check...3 months now. I've called them several times and their response was always that the checks would be going out this week. Their attitude and way of business is lacking in professionalism. I also don't have proof of what they actually sold my item for. Make sure you get everything in writing before using this outfit for your consignment sales. I would not use them again. read more

It is unusual for any business to close before the listed hours. That's exactly what occurred when this company ran an estate sale in Flossmoor this past weekend. We went on Friday afternoon, waited in line about a half hour, entered the mdse. packed house and tried to shop. Most of the "help" were pleasant enough but anyone who seemed to be in authority were curt and disinterested in doing anything but taking our money and hustling us out the door. Among the items we purchased were several bottles of wine. Most were unfamiliar labels as was the one we opened to have with dinner that night. There were at least 18 bottles left of the same wine so we decided to return on Saturday to buy more. We arrived at 1:50p.m. just as a woman shut the entrance. I asked wasn't the closing 3:00 p.m. and was told "the house is full and there are people in line". I said that just as in voting the line is closed at the posted hours. Her rude response was; "my house, my rules"! Of the many estate sales we've gone to never have ANY closed before the advertised hours. We were not alone, there were other people standing around who were not allowed to enter. At least we live in the area. No telling how far the others drove only to be turned away. Nice way to do business! I wonder what the people who hired her would think of her decision. NO, NONE, NADA stars for these people or their business. ( Had to leave one to post) read more

This is probably one of the nicest consignment shops I have ever been to. My friend and I stopped in here and was greeted by a lovely young lady who told us about the selection and prices. I was thoroughly impressed by the quality of the furniture as well as the paintings there. I just wish I had a bigger house to fill it with all of the great furniture. I definitely plan on coming back here again very soon. read more

I entered the store just after the door was opened the morning of 8/16/13, walked around the entire store, and was never acknowledged by either of the two sales people present. Not a "Good Morning" or "Hello, how can I help you?"...not even a look. I left and spent my money elsewhere. I told my neighbors about this experience, and they had the same rude treatment. Good luck staying in business, The Perfect Thing! I predict you will gone from that location less than two years from now with that kind of customer service. By the way, I'm a retired multi-million-dollar business owner. read more

I just purchased a hand-painted, rice paper, folding screen and two black and white abstracts, for my office, that were a good buy. The sales ladies were very nice without being obsequious. The owner has a wonderful sense of humor and knows her stuff. This store is great fun to shop. I will be going back. read more

I was at the estate sale in Flossmoor as well. I realize that it was a small house with an abundance of merchandise. Some of the people working the sale were very nice--Kate, Laura, and Harry to name three. Judy, the owner of the estate sale company, was very rude and condescending. I don't know if it was because of the stressful situation or if she always scolds paying customers as if they were dimwitted children. I felt that overall, the customers were a nuisance to her. I attend many estate sales, and have never felt so unwelcome. This was my first time attending a sale run by this company. It is my last. read more

I have been to this store 3 or 4 times since moving to Wheaton this past June. My husband and I have been looking for furniture and decor for our new home and we like to mix vintage pieces in with new items. This is a large store and has a higher quality of items, unlike some anique or consignment stores that seemed to be piled high and crammed with mostly broken junk. That being said, I have noticed that some of the items are WAY overpriced. Additionally I have been really unimpressed with the customer service. I have been here multiple times and each visit I listen to the staff greet and ask to help every other person in the store with the noted exception of me. They have a large desk in the center of the store and it would be hard to miss someone that looks over the entire store before leaving. Notably, the customers that were greeted were all older women (45+) and I look like I am in my late 20's. Perhaps they don't think someone younger is a serious buyer or worth their time? At first I thought it was just one visit with a particular staff member on duty but this has happened EVERY time I have come to look for furniture. Very disappointed in the unwelcoming staff and unwelcoming prices. I will not be returning. read more

Sorry to say but I have never written a review before on any business, unfortunately I am compelled to write a review on my experience on Sunday June 19th (Father's Day) 2016. My husband and I drove by this quaint little shop and knew they were advertising 25% off for Father's day, so we planned on dropping by because we saw the perfect chair for our Master Bedroom in the window. We asked the owner how much it was and we were told $300.00 as we walked through the store we realized with the Father's day discount it would be right with in our budget and decided to buy it. My husband loaded the chair and I proceeded up to the register, so happy we found the perfect chair! The owner then said "oh, I was wrong it's actually $450.00! Then she said she would still give it to us at $300.00, I explained to her that we were right on budget with the price she gave us 15 minutes ago and the Father's day discount, she then told my husband to bring the chair back in, actually yelled it across the store as he was entering and then suggested we go to a "Charity Outlet" to get that price! I Felt a little humiliated and embarrassed but we left. I just want to remind the owner's this is a Consignment shop, a second hand store! And acting like your above everyone else because you have "some" collectables is just bad business. If anyone is looking for nice furniture and has to go to a thrift store or a consignment shop in order to afford it I would recommend you do not patronize the high and mighty attitude of "The Perfect Thing" read more

talk about an experience from hell.I think being a customer you would be treated with respect but the older woman..I believe the mother..its a mother daughter tag team ..is by far the rudest.most disrespectful person I have ever met.She cannot talk down enough to people as if her you know what doesnt stink..and several of my friends agree.Yes they have great things..remember they are not theirs but they are selling for others and I am sure turning a pretty penny at the sellers expense...Do your checking at other places for fair market value..and I assure you if the actions of the owners count you would pay double elsewhere read more

NOT SO PERFECT FOR SELLERS (read the contract very carefully before putting anything on consignment in this store) I was disappointed. These are the things I expected as a client of The Perfect Thing and DID NOT receive. 1. Proper display of the furniture items for maxium results. (if they cannot be displayed fully The Perfect thing should not accept the items). 2. A courtesy call for reducing prices on items. (that would give you an opportunity to pick them up if you could not agree on the reduced price) 3. A courtesy call when the furniture is sold (that way you know when you will receive your check) 4. Proof of final price items sold for (how do I know that is "really" what they sold my items for?) My 1st check was not sent out in a timely manner and had be dated for 60 days earlier. May 2nd check was sent immediately after I complained about the 1st check. It had the correct date on it. This did not work for me. I do not think my expectations were unreasonable. I called and talked to the manager about these concerns. Maybe they can improve their service. read more
