The ice cream and cookies were okay, but nothing exceptional. The cookies were a bit too hard for my liking. However, the customer service during my visit was extremely disappointing. My family and I went through the drive-thru and rang the bell when we were ready, but no one came to the window. It was a slow time of day, so the lack of response was surprising. After ringing several times with no answer, we decided to go inside. When we walked in, we found the employees sitting and talking. We asked if anyone was working the front, and one of them replied that he was the only one on shift. He got up to take our order and mentioned it had been slow--yet we had been waiting outside for someone to come to the window. What made the situation worse was that while he was taking our order, another customer pulled into the drive-thru and he immediately went to assist them. Hidden gem! This place was SO good! Prices were reasonable. It was $5 for a little cookie sandwich and $6 for a large. I got a large Cookie Monster (vanilla with chips ahoy 10/10) with double fudge cookies. And let me tell you, this was a LOT. Way too much for just myself but a perfect amount to split it with someone. Everything tasted amazing. The place was pretty small and there were only about 6 tables. We had Penguin Brothers provide dessert (ice cream sandwiches) and their "custom soda bar" for my daughter's wedding. First, the good: The ice cream sandwiches deserve 5 stars. Everyone loved them. The strawberry Nutella ice cream with double-chocolate cookies was absolutely delicious, and many guests raved about the honeycomb ice cream with snickerdoodles. And now for the bad: Warm soda with no ice, and not truly "custom." The description on The Penguin Brothers website says: "Our Custom Soda Bar comes with your choice of 4 soda options and customizable mix ins! We do bring 2 servers and a serving station. Our team provides cups, straws, and napkins!" (See https://www.thepenguinbrothers.com/catering and scroll to the bottom.) An email I received from Penguin Brothers described it like this: "For the sodas, you can choose theses [sic] already put together options, or you can just pick 4 soda flavors and syrups flavors and your guests can mix and match whatever sodas and flavors they want. " The "already put together options" sounded okay, but I wanted some different flavor combinations and asked several times for a list of syrup flavors to choose from. Apparently, we'd been talking past each other because when I eventually got an answer about what syrup flavors I could choose from with the 4 sodas we'd picked, it was this: "I just want to clarify again, we basically have two options! You can pick the custom sodas that I sent above (those are already made soda and flavoring combinations that we can bring and offer), OR you can choose up to 5 flavors and we bring those with club soda and your guests can choose which flavors they want with their club soda :) " In the end, they brought a bunch of canned sodas and syrup flavorings, but the canned soda was warm, and there was no ice for the drinks. Almost no one at the reception used the soda bar because who wants to drink warm soda? In the end, they must have taken back 75 to 80 percent of the canned soda and nearly all of the syrup, so I paid $4 per drink for 300 guests, and maybe 40 of the guests had a drink simply because there was no ice. In The Penguin Brothers' defense, the descriptions on their website and in their correspondence with me never said ice would be included. I just assumed that the soda would be cold and served with ice. Even in Europe, where ice is rarely used with drinks, the sodas are still served cold. I'd say you can't go wrong with their ice cream sandwiches for a catered event, but skip the soda bar unless you like throwing away money or somehow prefer warm soda to chilled soda with ice. read more

Tried penguin brothers a few weekends ago at my sisters wedding reception and was not disappointed! Tons of varieties of ice cream and cookie options, though I can't remember them all now... My wife and I shared two cookie sandwiches--one chocolate chip with biscotti ice cream and one double chocolate with mint chocolate chip. The cookies were nice and soft, which is necessary for a cookie ice cream sandwich, and the flavors went together really well. After the reception there were some cookies leftover and we had them for breakfast the next morning (pretend I didn't say that, but I mean, occasionally, cookies for breakfast is acceptable, right??). I'm so in love with this cute lil' place. They just recently opened their brick and mortar space, having previously only operated out of a food truck. The small building they occupy feels like a secret hangout spot, though I can't quite put my finger on why. The interior is adorable, all pale pinks and blues and wood, with artwork that has ice cream incorporated, and fairy lights too, because why not? They could probably fit maybe 15 or 20 people in there, but it would be pretty packed. The idea is that you make your own sandwich with your choice of cookies and ice cream. They had about 10-12 ice cream options (From Rockwell, some more creative like lemon thyme blueberry), and I think 5 or 6 cookie options (from Sweet Tooth Fairy), but to be honest I didn't really pay attention to the cookie choices because when they said they could do warm chocolate chip I was sold. Paired with dark chocolate sea salt ice cream this was a serious contender for best ice cream sandwich ever (I'm only slightly exaggerating). I like that, even with two cookies, it's not a huge serving, although I shared with a friend, and it was a perfect snack for two. The only negative about warm cookies is that they melt the ice cream, but that just means you better eat quickly! We spoke with one of the owners just briefly, and he was charming. There was no one else there when we stopped by, so we were served immediately, but due to the nature of the product it would be unlikely you would ever have much of a wait. The price is great, one sandwich was about $4.00, and they have a reward program. I think it could be hard to spot from the road as it's set back a ways, but their food truck was parked out front, so that helped. I'm sad that I'm not often in this area because I would certainly frequent The Penguin Brothers, but I guess that just means it'll be a special treat. Definitely check this place out. read more

They were gracious enough to serve our sandwich in a bowl, as it got drippy in the heat. The decor is modern, nerdy, cute, and cozy. The walls were decked out in nerdy art featuring penguins as famous movies characters, as well as pictures/posters from famous movies, but cleverly photoshopping their cookie sandwiches in the scene. While the bathroom was small and shabby, my (pregnant) wife was certainly grateful they even had one. The prices were fair for the quality and amount you get. NEGATIVES: they aren't able to print receipts. I kind of regret getting the muddy buddy flavored ice cream, as it wasn't my favorite. It has chunks of peanut butter that seemed as large as the scoop of ice cream. And the Chex in it had an awkward texture that was both soggy and rough at the same time. PRICE: about $5 per person. It's tucked away behind an auto repair shop a few blocks west of BYU campus. Can't say I love the location. The store is hard to find, the parking is tight, and the restaurant is small. I've only been to this place once, and I had the macaroon ice cream sandwich when I came. It was delicious! My fiancé and I got one mint sandwich and another passion fruit one. I wouldn't have thought to get a passion fruit ice cream sandwich but man, it was so good! The flavor was awesome and totally unique. I loved how the macaroon cookie was soft with a slight crunch. It made a great contrast to the cold, creamy ice cream filling. The downside of the macaroon sandwich was the price in my opinion. It was $4 and really small! See my picture, but I was expecting something much bigger than $4 finger food. It was finely crafted and delicious, but I don't think it was a good value. Woah! "Epic ice-cream sandwiches" is all I can say. I had heard of Penguin Brother's and was aware of their food truck but always overlooked the fact that they had an actual location -- probably because it is in a random and sort of "out-of-sight, out-of-mind" location. Besides that, I really fell in love and this will be my new go-to dessert location. For starters, I LOVE the atmosphere. It's really fun and very unique. I also was amped to find that they use my favorite, Rockwell's Ice cream (a local ice cream shop). The cookies were fresh and the service was helpful and quick. I loved that I could get two Lil Bro sandwiches for only $5! It was a more than adequate amount of ice cream and cookies. I don't think you could go wrong with any of their menu items but if you want a recommendation, I loved the dark chocolate ice cream with the oatmeal cookie + chocolate chip cookie combination. The one negative is the menu was a little confusing -- I thought that the "double" meant a double scoop of ice cream, not two Lil' Bros. If you are an ice cream lover and a cookie lover (basically if you are a life lover) you have to check this place out.
