Steak sandwich was really good. Came on garlic bread with grilled onions and mushrooms. You got a choice of fries or chips I instead got the soup of the day which was tortellini. Soup was filling and had lots of tortellini and sausage in it. Had lots of flavor. We had the sausage pizza and had ordered a pepperoni to go. Pizza sauce had lots of spices and flavor. I was disappointed in the pizza I ordered today. I ordered a 7 inch supreme pizza with a thin crust and sauce on the side. I did not place the order myself so the preference for thin crust and sauce on the side may not have been passed on to whoever took the order. However there was definitely no fresh garlic which is supposed to come on the pizza. The garlic really adds something to the pizza and it was not nearly as good without it. Went there yesterday since we like to try new places. In hindsight we should've been suspicious with a huge menu. I ordered macaroni and cheese which came with a salad and breadsticks. Here's where the trouble started. The salad was very very small but ok. When the macaroni came it was the $1.00 box of kid food with the packet of powdered cheese. I asked the waitress why something like this is served? She said matter of factly "It is what we have" The cost for this was $13.50. Never again!! read more

Overall good place. Waitress/bartender was very helpful, though it seemed like only one person working the front end and a few (2 or more) working the kitchen. She was handling it all, including the phone orders. Very pleasant and checked on us regularly. Kids ate all their food and they were kind enough to custom make a sandwich of one of our picky eaters. Cafe ish feel with a bar area and high top tables so good for kids or non-kiddos. A few Arcadish games too. read more

Watery white cheddar macaroni. So watery that the cheese sauce didn't stick to the macaroni. The pulled pork was chopped so small, and very dry. Bread sticks were placed in the watery white cheddar cheese sauce, so couldn't eat those. Noodles were over cooked. Didn't eat the soup, as it was so greasy, looked like they didn't drain and rinse all the grease off the cheap ground beef that they used. Do yourself a favor, keep on driving to Steel Moose for a decent meal. Won't be ever eating at the Penguin Again! Steel Moose is by far a lot better, and they don't skimp on flavor. And their macaroni and cheese sauce, is gooey and good. read more

This is a nice little gem. They have amazing pizza. Most other food there is pretty much expected bar food, but the pizza is super amazing.

Use to be really good but over the last year has gone way downhill, fish was way overpriced and overcooked to the point it is not edible, the pizza had way too much sauce and a burnt crust, food is not worth the cost. They need to get a real cook in there to get back to the food from several years ago. Customers are no longer a priority. read more

Been going to business for 3 years. Last night, will never be back and 1 other couple left without waiting for their food. We all understand a kitchen gets slammed with a 12 person order but those of us, and there were 5 tables that did not get food for OVER 1 hour. I personally got no service. Not even, can I get you another drink oh and so sorry for the food delay. When approached the owner, she got defensive and said well kitchen got slammed with large order. Really that's it, that all, no I am sorry you received no service from the waitress, no acknowledgement, no nothing. You know, guess they are comfortable with there success but they do NOT care about their weekly customers. EXTREMELY poor way to appreciate regulars!!! We usually only come here for the all you can eat wings on Wednesday and that's the only reason they're getting a 2 star review. We went there last night (Tuesday) just to check out the regular menu. I'll start with the appetizer, we got the sampler they offered and it was the poorest excuse of a sampler I've ever scene! For 9 dollars you get 1 chicken nugget, 2 onion rings, 3 fried mushrooms, 3 fried shrimp and 2 mot sticks. Not worth 9 dollars. Moving on to the burgers we got, they were actually really good and worth the price. Although in all my years eating out I've never been to a restaurant that shorts you on the fries as much as they did. All in all I was really disappointed By the sampler and we won't ever eat from the menu again. Wednesday wing night is worth it tho. read more

Nate and Jen are great people and my wife and I understand that during shutdown all they had was takeout But after 7 years of patronage we will Never go back A couple at go we went in dining room right after open on a Sunday the phone was ringing off the wall and they were talking take out orders and giving callers Accurate amount of time it would take before the caller could pick up their order eventually the new waitress took our drink orders and went back to answering the phone and running into the kitchen with more orders they had been really backed up by that point but never told us when we ordered an appetizer and a pizza that we would sit one hour and 27 minutes before we receive anything when we ordered I had said we will start with the wing we didn't even get those for the hour and 27 minutes even though it only took a few minutes out of the kitchen the owner came out to give one of her favorite customers a hot chocolate with whipped cream on it which only took a few minutes but when you're that backed up and you're sitting and waiting for your food it's just interesting the biggest problem was lack of communication we didn't eat before church and had had nothing to eat finally after 1 hour and 27 minutes I talked to the other owner who told us we're doing our best and then told me that when he went in the kitchen he hadn't said we wanted our wings first I thought using the word start with the wings would have been enough by the time we finally received the pizza and consumed our meal we had been there a solid two hours when I placed my displeasure to one of the owners the response was we're doing the best we can we have been to other places during the years who if they knew they were so backed up with takeout orders that we were going to have to wait an hour and 27 minutes for a pizza and a few chicken wings they would have said to the people I just want you to know you're going to have to wait this amount of time had we been told that they were this backed up by takeout orders we probably would have paid for the two drinks we had and left but we probably wouldn't have had the two drinks at all because we just would have left thank them for warning us that it was going to be that long and probably would have come back because as I said the owners are decent people but given the experience and then no apology no offer to give us either a discount or something to make up for making us wait that long while plenty of other people who had takeout orders were coming in and picking up pizzas to us was not only very troubling but a little uncaringas I said before during the total shutdown all they had was the takeout business and I think what's happened is that they are so concentrated on takeout that they have just put the dining room patrons second I know a lot of people love the penguin and do they seem a little bit hard but understand we have been customers of theirs regular customers for 7 years and not only the weight but the lack of communication and the sense of defensiveness we got when we tried to ask what was going on is just something that we do not want to experience again we wish the restaurant well the only advice we would give anyone who is thinking about going into the dining room I think you better have sometime on your hands or I would suggest that you call in and order and pick it up after all these years it is really sad that things seem to be the way they are for in-person dining now read more

We went to check out this place around noon for a fish fry and our disappointment level was off the charts! The place was cold inside to start with and the prices were high for such a small place. Their staff consisted of an order taker and a cook. We both ordered the walleye and the sides that come with the meal. I had baked beans that came out of can and my wife had the cole slaw while we waited. After 30 minutes the fried fish were served and I had reservations about what we were eating until I figured out that we were being served ocean perch(pollack) instead due to the shape of the fillets and the strong fishy taste. My order came with potato salad that was over cooked and tasteless. Needless to say, we will never be coming back! Do yourself a favor and keep driving by this place. read more

I am from out of town but had to travel for a market place purchase through the area. I wanted to pick up dinner on my way through since I would not be back until late left right from work. I found the Penguin again online. Placed my order to go (COVID Crisis) and was given a pick up time about an hour and a half away, once again COVID appropriate timing for to go orders these days. When we pulled up we were surprised that they had fashioned a drive through. We had to follow signs all around the business which led to an impressive impromptu drive thru- we were happy to not have to get out of the car. We ordered the wings- they were awesome and a super good deal. Many sauces to choose from. I would recommend boneless the bone in were kind of scrawny. Our order of fries were small as I seen others comment, but the absolute best must order in the future would be their chili. It was super meaty and just had a few beans. The flavor was savory and had just enough spice and not too much cumin which is a mistake many make. Definitely a unique chili worth going back for. The only thing is it didn't come with any noodles, not sure if you need to request them or what but the chili was so good I would make my own noodles if need be. I live a good 40 minutes away but am sure I will be returning on a wing Wednesday in the future. read more

Love this place. I just wish they delivered; / the soups are yummy the chicken wings are really cheap and the pizzas are great.

We ate here on the advice of a friend and will never go to another place he recommends again! The food was alright, but the wings were not coated and we had to dunk them ourselves. Not how we enjoy eating our wings, but the worst part was that we got a few celery sticks with a minute amount of ranch dressing. When our sons asked for additional ranch they said they had to charge us because the ranch is for the celery and the celery cost $1.50. ALL Wings come with a dressing to dunk them in and it costs almost nothing to supply it! We were offended and appalled to say the least! While we were there 3 other families around us had the same problems and two of them actually left. NOT recommended if you have kids or if you don't bring your own dressing or sauces! read more

Amazingly great pizza!! We were just passing through and what a delightful surprise to have a pizza that far exceeds any pizza restaurant. The sauce is homemade. The ingredients are really fresh and in abundance. The sauce and ingredients go all the way to the edge! This restaurant will be added to our GPS for our next trip to the UP! read more
