One of the staff yield at my 3 year old using bad words (totally innecessary) because he pulled some leaves from a plant (which by the way was like a weed) and I was already reprimanding him. This guy (the one that supposedly take care of the plants) needs a lesson on how to treat people. I would not recommend this place for families. read more

Amazing pub amidst the neighbourhood. My bf and I went for Sunday roast. On this day, they had pork belly roast with red wine infused vegetables on the side. It was a solid dish, and we both left feeling very full. I particularly like the way they cooked the carrots, whilst I felt that the pork skin could have been less cooked / hard so that I could cut into it. Ambience was lovely -- quintessential old English feel and very family-like. No TV and more on the posh side, so great for proper meals rather than just drinks and watching sports. Service was good, though note they did not really have much of a table service. We just ordered at the bar, and they served what we ordered. Nonetheless, the staff were friendly and prompt. I could see myself coming back here and making friends with them at a less busy time. All in all, great experience, and I definitely recommend it. read more

Pretty nice pub with a difference as they also sell local cider and local beers. There's comfy seating and the staff are helpful and friendly. The food menu has some variety with sandwiches to crust less quiches, I'm here at least once a week and I'm going through the food menu and I haven't found anything I didn't enjoy. Friday and Saturday nights can be a bit busy. There are special deals on meals as you can get a burger with chips and drink for under £8! read more

Whilst the Barons Court/Hammersmith area isn't the most happening place in the world, there is a plethora of good pubs tucked away within the residential bits. The Pear Tree is another one of these places, between Greyhound Road and the Hospital. At first glance, it looks a bit like an old man pub, but the clientele are towards the lower end of the spectrum. The interior is very cosy with a fireplace and candles abound (which one of my friends accidentally caused a small-scale fire with). The Sunday pub quiz used to be top notch until the quizmaster decided it was too much work and stopped doing it every week. Tear. The drinks selection is pretty standard - you won't find an outlandish range of draught ales here, but the food is pretty decent (I'd rate the food at 3.5 stars) and the roasts are good and a bit cheaper than nearby The Idle Hour. The pear crumble is a bit disappointing though, as it's obviously reheated. Brownie on the other hand... From the website, the Pear Tree is currently under new management, although I'm not sure whether that exchange has happened since I last went or before. Will update if I go again. read more

I'll call this a 3.5 star review. Came here for a friend's birthday dinner. He lives around the corner and it's his local, as well as his primary source of food when there's no food at home. Unfortunately, I was not as impressed. It's a good place for a drink. Comfortable and not too loud. I wouldn't be racing to go back for the food. Chips: advertised by said friend as "the best chips in Britain... no, the world!" I would merely classify them as decent. Cut too thick for my liking, and thus insufficient crisp. Salmon en croute: the boy ordered this. He didn't like it that much, but I actually thought it was quite good. Certainly better than my... Mushroom risotto: Good flavour. Terribly terribly oversalted. I couldn't even finish it. And I think they used heavy cream, because my mild lactose intolerance kicked in. Normally I'm fine with small amounts in food, short of actually drinking milk of really heavy ice cream. But really, the salt was unacceptable. By all accounts, the lamb was amazing (I didn't have it), but three of our party did. Service: I think it took about 45 minutes for the food to come. It wasn't even that busy. read more

Distance is no real impediment on my quest to find good nosh around town, so when I heard that The Pear Tree had an Aberdeen Angus beef burger on their menu, it didn't take much persuasion. The Pear Tree was recently taken over by new proprietors Darren and Lulu who also own The Bird in Hand pub in nearby Fulham. I had the pleasure to meet and chat with both about the daunting enterprise that it was to turn this once neglected boozer into the charming, local gastro pub I was visiting that evening. Housed in an elegant, early Victorian building, one of the oldest in the area, the pub has a cozy feel, and has been simpathetically furnished. The clientele is mostly young and affluent; I noted a few doctors and nurses there as the pub is located just behind Charing Cross Hospital. Gary of Start Space (Columbia Road Art Gallery and Café) accompanied me on the evening. A quick look at the menu was enough for us to make our choices, and soon after placing our orders, our starters arrived. The Duck rillette with salami, red onion marmalade and cornichons @ £4.50 was delightful and a very generous portion considering its price. The rillette was deliciously fatty, well seasoned and as good as the rillettes I have eaten in the South West of France or at Terroirs in Central London. The Vegetable tempura with soy and ginger dipping sauce @ £3.95 was also a well executed dish, with a thin, crisp batter. Gary's Whole grilled mackarel with chorizo, beetroot, new potatoes, and watercress salad @ £11.75 was again perfectly cooked and beautifully presented. The chorizo stood up well to the fish - it was a delicious combination I had never tried before. The star of the evening however was the Aberdeen Angus beef burger with handcut chips @ £8.95. The patty was chunky, meaty, and had been cooked medium rare. The meat flavour was intense with a delicious char-grilled quality. The chips were also outstanding, piping hot and very moreish. For dessert, we had Chocolate terrine with vanilla ice cream £3.95 and Pancakes with bananas and caramel sauce £3.95. These were both simple and well made, and the perfect end to a very good meal. I was truly impressed by the consistently high standard of cooking in all the dishes I tried, and by the quality of the ingredients used. The Pear Tree epithomizes what in my opinion great pub food should be unfussy, delicious and affordable to all. Cost: this was a complimentary meal but I have quoted prices for all the dishes we tried. I estimate that a 3-course meal would cost around £18 per person excluding drinks and service. Likes: great food, cozy and intimate décor, good range of beers on tap, and wines by the glass. Prices are very reasonable for the quality of food being served. Friendly service. Dislikes: None. Verdict: A real gem of a pub in Barons Court's Margravine Road. Exceptional Aberdeen Angus beef burger. A must to anyone who lives or finds themselves in the area for excellent food, wine or beer at very affordable prices. Highly recommended. read more

The Pear Tree is a very nice pub. Low lighting and candles, old-fashioned chairs, old tables. The only thing that does not look old is the people who eat here. I would not go here just to have two beers, it is more a restaurant than it is a pub. Food is quite good, well cooked and nicely presented. Portions are not particulalry big but then you have space for dessert. The chocolate mousse is delicious - thick and not overly sweet. A main and a beer will put you easily at more than £20 so it is not that cheap, but they used to have a promotion on Mondays where if you order a drink, food is half price. Reservations are strongly recommended as it is always jam packed. read more

Stayed at an apt nearby for biz trip and this pub became our favorite immediately! Perfect fish and chips with great beers on tap including Leffe (which is a fortune back home in NYC). Such cool ambiance with internal classic pub vibe but gorgeous private garden dining out back! The owner could not be more gracious - with local regulars, not a tourist spot so it's a hidden gem. The idea of a pub in Fulham never really set my heart on fire as the destination for a date. But this all changed when I discovered The Pear Tree on Margravine Road, where you can't help but be seduced by it's dishevelled charm. The Pear Tree is the perfect all year round date venue. In the winter you've got a cosy open fire in the bar, while in the summer there's a charming garden full of mismatched furniture, blankets and candles perfect for cuddling up together. There's even a curtained off den area which might appeal to those less prone to public displays of affection! I'd suggest either settling in at The Pear Tree for the whole afternoon/evening or using it as a pre-gig venue to be followed by a trip to the Hammersmith Apollo (only a ten minute walk away). There's a great selection of beers, and a very reasonably priced wine list, which always helps! The food at The Pear Tree is far above average for a local pub and is served on a whimsical selection of mismatched china and enamel, with the water arriving in a whisky decanter. It really is the best of both worlds restaurant quality food in quirky and informal environment. read more

For two years in a row now, The Pear Tree has played host to our music society Christmas Dinner. And both years, it has been a very welcoming place to visit. The pub itself is cosy and inviting, with two smallish rooms to sit in, an eclectic mix of carpets on the floors, and a lovely fire in one corner. It hits exactly the right levels of lighting too dark enough to feel intimate and light enough to see your food and your companions. And the food is worth seeing. It's pub food, sure but good pub food from what I've experienced. My meal last night hit great notes on two of the three courses. A slightly disappointing carrot soup was followed by very well cooked and tasty rainbow trout and then a delicious if slightly stodgy pear crumble. Better than the food, though, are the staff. Both years it has impressed me how happily they have tolerated 30-odd slightly drunk medical students. But both years they've been full of smiles, pleasant and helpful, and willing to join in with the slightly raucous carol singing. For the second year in a row, I've enjoyed my Christmas meal here, and for the second year in a row I've come away feeling like I should make the effort to visit for a more quiet meal and drink.
