Basic small town ambiance with both on the street and beside the building parking. Business was not packed but steady for a 2-3 person staff. Definitely everyone friendly. Good "down home" cooking. I was there with friends. One recommended the Walleye filets, as did the doing everything server! Comes with 2 sides for about $15. 3 very large and delicious, perfectly fried filets. I had coleslaw which was good. Also fried potatoes that were bland but filling. Sorry I only got a picture of my "to go" container that was about 1/2 of my total serving! They had lots of good looking pies to go... that I didn't try. Everything our table had was very good. Everything we saw being served looks great too! A rare steak and over medium eggs are rare and over medium. They treat you like you are a long lost friend everytime you walk in. i've been eating at this place since I was a child. It has only changed hands a couple of times in the 44 years of my life I think three maybe four. The atmosphere has never changed. The waitresses are amazing and always smiling most of the time regulars but anyone from out of town has always welcome and sure you have some entertainment from the liars table. the food is amazing. It's just like a home cooked meal. If you can get there early enough, the biscuits and gravy are to die for her. The current owner has definitely kept the Paxton spirit alive! read more

Wonderful little restaurant in the middle of town. Home-cooked meals. Today's special was Soup Beans, home fries, greens and cornbread $7.95. It was a big seller. I sat at the counter because I was dining by myself. I had a BLT , potato salad and onion rings. It was delicious. Plenty of bacon on the sandwich. Tomatoes sliced thin and quite good. Potato Salad was excellent. Staff was friendly. My server was very good. I ordered a piece of sugar cream pie to take home. $3.00 for pie. There was a big selection to chose from. Sweet tea was delicious. Sweetened perfectly. I will most certainly be back. The menu has something for everyone. Breakfast is served till noon. The restrooms were closed. I had the seafood platter and my wife had meat loaf. Loved the walleye and perch especially on my platter, wife said meatloaf was OK. Homemade cheesecake for desert was awesome. Great home style food! Staff is very friendly and helpful. We had breakfast that was really good and filling. Omelets were packed with ingredients. Biscuits and gravy were very good. Not everyone can make sausage grave, but they sure can at Paxson's! For supper they had 2 piece Walleye, with 2 sides and dinner roll. We didn't get the special that evening but the size of the pieces of fish were huge and people were flocking in to have the Walleye. It looked really good! No complaints about this place. This has just the menu you'd expect in a small town but with the quality you want but rarely get. Their speciality is the fried pike and it was delicious. Even though it is not locally caught it still tasted very fresh and not at all fishy. The sides were the standard processed stuff (boxed mashed potatoes and canned green beans) but nothing is perfect. read more

This place has a good selection of home-style cooking. I have tried multiple selections here and all have been decent to good. They run specials quite often, but are known for running out, since they have a good base of clientele. Unfortunately their healthier options are very limited, but the salad that you can order is pretty good sized and comes with a bit above average toppings, variety and amount. The main issue with this location is the parking situation and the total occupancy. But, the great thing about it is that it's right across from an awesome hidden gem of a cheesecake seller, Mystical Retreat Cheesecake, so you can settle for a slice while you wait and it will make you forget about the time waiting. read more

I eat here at least once per week. Mondays feature noodles, alternating between beef and chicken, Tuesdays: Perch, Thursdays: Prime rib, Fridays: AYCE Walleye. I love their potato soup. Their country fried steak dinner, sometimes the Wednesday dinner special is really great. Saturday lunch is sometimes roast pork with stuffing, mashed potatoes and another side. Saturday dinner is sometimes baby back ribs. Both are delicious. The Sunday lunch is pan-fried chicken with 3 sides. They have an assortment of homemade pies. But as the previous review says, they run out. Especially the ribs, the prime rib, and dessert. Nice wait staff, and pretty quick. But parking is somewhat limited and so is seating. But that's what being a diner is all about. Free refills on soft drinks. My favorite side is their macaroni salad. All the food tastes like homemade. Portions are very generous.
