Deno's is one of those Coney Island mainstays that conjures up a certain nostalgia and lets you leave your worries behind for awhile enjoying a day of happiness. Coney Island is one of New York's sacred places, and Deno's and the Wonder Wheel should be where you take out-of-town visitors to experience "The Real New York" as opposed to Times Square! Deno's reminds me of simpler and happier times as a child and I'm fortunate to created memories here as a father by bringing my son to Deno's from the time he could walk; I'll certainly cherish all the smiles the children's park brought to his face and I hope I have the opportunity to take my niece and future generations of kids in our family down to Deno's in the years to come. Coney Island, and Deno's, are a throwback to the best of New York City: a place where anyone from any race, religion, and social strata can find reprieve from the hustle and grind of our demanding city. May Deno's continue to thrive forever under the stewardship of the Vourderis who have brought so much joy to generations of New Yorkers and people worldwide who've made the trip to our shared pocket of wonderful in Southern Brooklyn.

We visited the New York Aquarium on Jun 26, 2025 as part of the Road Scholar's "American Mosaic -…read moreAn NYC Exploration" program. Tickets were provided by our tour group. Parking isn't free, or cheap. We didn't have to worry about that since we took the subway. We started at Glover's Reef and slowly moved through Conservation Hall. By "we", I meant me. There was a lot of people, and they kept walking into my shots. That meant waiting and more waiting, but it was worth it. From Conservation Hall, I exited to an outdoor area known as Sea Cliff. This area housed the otters, sea lions and penguins. More on Sea Cliff later. I approached the Ocean Wonders: Sharks! building, went in, and was immediately greeted by the wonderful underwater glass tunnel. This was easily the most impressive gallery in the aquarium. Multitudes of marine creatures were swimming over my head with every step I took. It was breathtaking. The rest of Ocean Wonders was all about sharks... mostly. There were rays, turtles and other fishes too. Next was the Spineless and PlayQuarium building. The Spineless gallery was not impressive, with the spider crabs and the octopus being the only standouts. No sturgeons. The collection of fishes wasn't as impressive as Ocean Wonders or Conservation Hall. We bypassed the PlayQuarium and into the gift shop. Last but not least, the sea lions. They were adorable. I took some videos but am unable to post them here. They can be found in my YouTube channel @1Somber. Look for "2025-1: American Mosaic - An NYC Exploration" playlist, and the "Day 5: Sea Lions" video. Thankfully, we didn't have to pay for our tickets. If we had, I would insist on visiting the 4-D Theater and the Aquatheater. But we did not due to lack of time. We were given less than 2 hours and the time was almost up when we were done with the main exhibits. The New York Aquarium is definitely comparable with the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach, CA. The visit was enjoyable. It's worth visiting one time.

During my visit, I saw jellyfish, sea lions, seals, otters, penguins, fish, and sharks. There's plenty to see both indoors and outdoors. The aquarium also does a sea lion show twice a day, and there's a new sea tunnel where sharks and other sea life swim all around you--it's really cool! After your visit, you can walk along the boardwalk and explore the nearby area. I rated it lower as a local (3/5) because if the exhibits don't change often, it can feel a bit repetitive and less worth the price. Overall, a fun visit--I'll definitely be back. Check out the aquarium today!

We were taking a break from all the misery surrounding my wonderful Mom's death & furneral. I loved her so very much. So this was a good break from the misery & heartbreak. Post-bumper cars it was nice to visit good ole Nathan's again have my old fav a Soft Shell Crab sandwich, two hot dogs, & their great Crink cut fries. Anyway back to the Skooter place. Old vintage bumper cars go round & round while you try to bump your brother & wife. There are always strangers who somehow get a kick off ramming you, in a painful whiplash way....but again this is a bad area of Crooklyn. At least the now have seat restraints that will stop you from flipping out of the car, but watch for a headache when somebody rams you hard. Try to avoid if possible. Eldorado, is an old "friend" & has been here even before I was a teen working at the next door now defunct Carvel's Ice-cream store. We got used to hearing the "Bump you Ass Off" & various music at that remote era of rock & disco. This was not a safe area, and I/we too many precautions while we went to work there. I already reviewed my KUNG FU techniques which I practiced with this Crazy Japanese guy at the now defunct King's Plaza Carvel. At the King's Plaza Carvel, I also worked with Crazy Mr. Squirrel & the nutty Eson brothers. One was an Ex-cop & the other totally wacked out. At the Coney one, we had baseball bats behind the counter & a riot gate. The manager was also armed. My insane brother, who did football, once almost ran through a wall there. Again, it was a crazy NYC crew. The owner once offered me, my own store, but I decided to go to College, rather than be a budding Icecream millionaire like him....now I think that was a mistake. Anyway, the Eldorado did send us a stream of customers, even in the coldness of winter, as well as, the nearby Nathan's. I grew nostalgic as I bumped my ass off as the memories of bygone decades raced past me to 35 years ago.... when CONEY ISLAND was still KING!!! Now it seems on it's last legs, so please support Nathan's & Eldorado.....

Beats all the night clubs by far in terms of sound quality. This will always be my favorite ride of Coney Island. The arcade in the back is tons of fun. Sort of reminds me of a Vegas Casino. So many lights. The overall atmosphere will get you lost in a state of trance if you stay there long enough. Simply, cool. Pros: Disco lights, awesome sound system, powerful air conditioning, independently operated, affordable, and all arcades work perfectly. Cons: New (2012) DJ does not play dance music. Just hip hop and reggae. Staff is somewhat unprofessional. Too many bumper cars inside. I would not recommend wearing a white or yellow dress when riding the bumper cars. I have seen many people step on the chairs to get in and out of the bumper cars. I would like to see them play the same kind of music they played from 2011 and before. The original DJ had the best taste. To me, this ride (with the music) brings life to Surf Avenue. I would also like to see new bumper cars in the ride, as sometime the older ones spin out of control. Other than that it's perfect.

SOLID INDOOR PLAY PLACE FOR PRESCHOOLERS…read more It's a cool space for kids to burn off some energy when the weather outdoors is less than ideal. We lucked up and got parking right in front. The entry price of $15 for a child and adult was on par what they offered (ie small ball pit, padded jungle gym, arcade). We went on a hot summer weekend with 2 kids and 3 adults. Though they were hosting a birthday party, the place was not packed at all. The toddler area was for babies and the arcade ended up being the highlight for my group. The kids both age 3 enjoyed themselves thoroughly. Wish that I had read the rave reviews about the food before I went; might return to try the food. It doesn't take much to entertain a preschooler so stop by especially if you are looking to avoid the chaos of the bigger, more popular indoor spots.

Kayla worked her way to doing the more difficult higher slides and more difficult climbs. She loves the rides in the arcade. This place is for kids age 3 and up. Very fun overall - security I feel needs some work, I would feel safe for my kid to roam around without supervision as they don't have a protocol of if someone took your kid and went out the door. They don't monitor that. So I would be cautions of that. This place does get very busy and hectic because it's small and so many people go. In addition, there are also party rooms which usually get booked up fast. So if u want a party here, book early. The food here is pricy but does taste very good for what it is. Especially the Russian/Georgian style kebobs. Yummy. I give this place 4 stars instead of 5 due to the lack of security oversight. Lastly, the arcade play is not part of admission, you will need to buy a card and put in money. Most games are $2.50, some are $1.5, $3 and the rides are about $7. Bring your kid here and check it out. The location is kind of out of the way, Hard to find parking but public bus does come nearby here.
