I recently moved into the area and was looking for about a week and a half to find a good barber. I have never been able to find a good barber until I came here. Lucas was incredibly friendly and the overall atmosphere was welcoming and felt like home. Lucas was very careful and attentive to the style I was looking for and he executed perfectly. TL;DR-place is a super legit local shop that won't disappoint Reading the other reviews on here, I notice that none of the negative reviews actually review the quality of the haircut. They address odd and specific cases that In no way reflect what Parlor 109 really is. Here's my story: I started to see Dennis (the owner) in high school when he was still renting a chair in another shop. There seemed to be very few local barbers that would attempt hard shaved edges on my hair, and Dennis would nail it every time. Even when I had no idea what I wanted but knew I wanted to change it up, Dennis did it nice and fresh. Haircuts for weddings, prom, graduation photos, Dennis was the go-to man. Fast forward a bit and now Dennis & Kenneth opened up their own shop, Parlor 109, right in Lake Carmel. When I go see Dennis it's never a "rush-job", he's a super real dude with real skills. I make the appointment on the app, wait maybe 10ish mins on busy days, and I walk out feeling fresh and put together. Being that I travel for work, I often return weeks or months later looking like a chia pet because I won't go anywhere else. Great place the first couple of times we went. The owner seems like a great guy. My son who is autistic needs time to get used to a particular place. He was getting comfortable with this location. But on one visit we encountered (not sure if he was an employee) he was cleaning up the shop, young man that utilized foul language while my son was a in the chair. One thing I know for sure that the barber shop we go to in Danbury and Brooklyn the owners make it a point that no language like that is utilized in the shop. 2 weeks ago I walked into Parlor 109 and explained to the barber that my son has autism and does not do well during haircuts. The barber said no problem! Come back at 2 and I'll give him a hair cut. Then we will set up for you to come every week even if it's just for me to comb his hair. Let him get used to me. So I was like AWESOME! I LOVE THAT! So I bring him back at 2. My son was a mess but we got it done. Trust me know how tremendously difficult it is to cut hair on a child who is flailing around and moving and screaming. I know my son and I am prepared to thank the barber with my tip. Once we are finished, the barber says go onto our app and set up for next week. So I am like cool. I go to pay and I was prepared to pay $15 and give him a $10 tip for the hassle. He says $20!!! I was like WHOA! That's a lot but I pay it leaving him a $5 tip. Once I get home I go onto the app to make the appt for next week and I see "little gentlemen's hair cut" $15. So I'm like wait a minute there's something wrong here. Then I look directly below and it says "Little Monsters" $20!!!! Now let me tell you, I am not part of outrage culture and not much bothers me, HOWEVER, my son is NOT a monster. He CANNOT help how he feels. He CANNOT help that he has sensory issues. I have another son who does great with haircuts. I should not have to pay extra because he has autism. I was prepared to give the barber a $10 tip for his hassle even on the days he was combing his hair now he will not get any of my money and unfortunately I have to find another barber for my son because I will not support a barber shop who considered my son a "little monster". read more
