The owner, Tony, is very friendly and has recently celebrated 50 years in business. A year or two ago rates were dropped (!) to $20 for a basic cut. My two boys get their's cut for $16/each. I rely upon Gus but the other barbers are all excellent. My kids often insist on waiting for Gus but are occasionally drawn into the kids chair (and TV) that Tony set up. Great place.

Had an appointment today at this barbershop to try it, as my regular barber is out for an extended…read moreperiod. I was under the impression the appointment was with Alex, the owner, but after he sat me down in his chair and we spent a few minutes discussing my haircut and reviewing pictures of how I style my hair (which I told him I am very particular about) he told me that my appointment was actually with someone else, Herman. I was surprised by this and expressed concern as to whether Herman could give me the cut we spent several minutes discussing. I was assured that "we're all barbers". That should have been the first red flag. Herman and I were not able to communicate so Alex briefly told him some of what we discussed. I also showed Herman the picture. The haircut I received looked nothing like the picture, is uneven, faded poorly, is so short and choppy I can't style as in the picture I showed, and it needs to be fixed. The quality of service at this show is so poor I could feel how dull the scissors were during the cut. The scissors were consistently pulling my hair, rather than cutting. I did not receive the skin fade I asked for even after i was double checked that he knew I wanted a skin fade (he initially only gave me a taper). I was visibly upset with the process but decided not to make a scene in the shop and to wait until I got home to call and speak with Alex. When I called right after getting home and seeing how bad the cut was, he blew off my concerns, said he thought it was a "great cut" and then told me I could make another $45 haircut appointment to have it fixed - but I would have to wait until Tuesday, at the earliest. I was expecting him to tell me to come in after his last cut of the day, but I guess Alex has better things to do than make things right with his (former) customers. He did tell me to wait by the phone incase someone cancels - great customer service! I'll be getting this terrible haircut fixed elsewhere. Save your $45 dollars - a lawnmower can do better.

Stay AWAY if you don't want to look like an embarrassment leaving…read more I was hesitant to go to a local 'Barber Shop' and 'Gents of Bedford' confirmed why I don't go to local barbershops. Alex gave me one of the worst haircuts I have ever had. If you have long hair, Alex can't cut it. Alex made no attempt to 'wash' the gel/ hairspray out of my hair. How are you supposed to cut hair that is 'gelled up? That should have been my first clue that this was going to be bad. Both my sides are completely different. One ear actually has a sort of crappy blend. On the other side, my ear is carved out like a shelf and half-hidden still. And the back is uneven, uneven isn't even the way to describe it; it is horrible. Seriously, how is this guy in business? It is embarrassing how bad of a haircut I received. And don't waste your time making an appointment you will still wait :30 minutes.

While in college, I wasn't able to go for a haircut by Ritchie and instead went to joints such as Supercuts, Great Clips, etc. There's nothing on this earth like one of these mom and pop barber shops. Down to earth, clean, and quality. Ritchie is also one of the nicest people you will ever meet, sociable and honest. He's had years of experience at cutting hair and it shows in his final product. A clean cut, attractive and very professional looking haircut. He'll never botch a cut. Each time that mirror's pulled out and he shows you the back neck line, it's perfect. Since Ritchie works solo and this place is more than popular in the area, you may have a good hour wait on weekends at peak times. Just give him call beforehand and ask if there's a wait. He'll be honest and upfront with you. Cuts are reasonably priced, $22 on weekdays and $25 on weekends. If you haven't yet discovered the Rye Ridge Barber shop, you're overdue.

Good hair cut, but questionable business practices…read more First things first- I was given a good hair cut, and if it were based on that alone I would be going back. So why 3 stars...Richie was very nice, very chatty and that means things take a long time. Not everyone wants to chat, but I get it. This also not a huge issue to me. More annoying- the price is not really the price. Listed prices are 28-29 for a hair cut, 30+ for long hair. The person before me, was charged you 28$. I was sitting there and watching. We had similar hair length (short business cut) so I was expecting the same. After 30 min in the chair I hand him 40$ expecting 12 back and he hands me a 10. Having read the other post about price variability I was annoyed but not shocked. Was he assuming a tip, charging me more for being new? Not sure, either way left a funny taste so I will find something else and less expensive. If I'm in a pinch, I'll consider returning but will plan on having exact change.
