This is most definitely a 'destination playground'. Thank goodness I found one! This is a place for…read morebirthday parties, work Christmas parties, get-togethers and why-not weekend adventures. It has wonderful play equipment, lots of space, sheltered table and chairs, beautiful trees and lawn, toilets and drink fountains. This is such a pretty and well maintained area with many walks and sections to the park. I have included a map of the park so you can have an idea of the space and fun you can have there. If you're wanting to have a large gathering at this park, I would suggest calling the Onkaparinga City Council (the number is listed in the business info section) to see if there's a booking system or a requirement to being able to request a certain area of the park. Visiting Thalassa would be a 'whole day' adventure to get the most out of the place. It sure looks like great fun and is definitely on my list of 'places to go back to and explore further'. I'm not sure if dogs are allowed at this park. This is such a great place. With a playground, skate park AND beautiful bike/hiking tracks through…read morethe local bush land, this really is a pretty place. While it isn't the biggest playground, they certainly have designed it with a wide range of age groups in mind. There's a mix of rubber ground and bark chip ground with toilets right in the middle of the skating area and the playground area. I spoke to a local who said the skate park is great (I've been out of the skating scene for too long to know hehehe). There were a couple of broken street lights in the car park but he assured me that the park gets maintained and looked after well, and he was surprised to see the damage himself. Pack your family up, put the bikes in the car and head over here. It would be a lovely Sunday outing. This is definitely one to check out. It's such a pretty place and while there's more construction happening at the moment (looks like an extension to the playground) this really is a happy blend of playground and nature with plaques along the way with information about the wildlife in that area. *I didn't see a drink fountain or BBQ* *Dogs allowed...under effective control of course* *Stay tuned to this post, I want to check the tracks out more myself! :-) See you there!*

Minkarra Park is a great place to take the kids on school holidays when you just need to get out of…read morethe house. It has exercise equipment, large skate park, hiking trails, fenced dog park and playground with toilets. Whilst I mainly visited for the playground with friends, I was disappointed that it does not cater for crawlers or children under 2 very well. Some of the equipment was too high/difficult for them to climb and they spent the majority of the time on the rubber ground. There was also no toddler swing, so if your kids like swings as much as mine then it's not the place to go. That being said it s well kept and tidy, but probably suited more to 3/4yo and up.

I'm not talking about the usual three meter metal structure that you see at a lot of playgrounds, and in its own right, is a lot of fun. I'm talking about a real swinging, cable, go-from-up-high-and-then-lower flying fox! As I was leaving a car pulled up with 2 girls about aged 9-10. They burst out of the car doors yelling "Yay! I LOVE this playground!" I wiped a small tear from my eye (joke) and walked away smiling. This is what playgrounds should be about. They should be a place where children laugh and run and play and balance and fall over, and try again, and get better at doing things every time they go there. The girls ran straight over to the flying fox and I can imagine they would have been there for quite some time. This playground also has a sheltered seating area in between the flying fox and the other playground equipment. We stopped here to eat our lunch the other day when we were out. Purely because it was nice and…read moreshady and had somewhere undercover for us to sit down at an actual table too. And when we turned up it was nice and quiet with no one else there. Not for long..... We had barely started eating when two dads rock up with their daughters (4 of them) for school holidays play obviously. Nice to see. They put sunscreen on and then ran straight to the flying fox. They took it in turns and did not stop or even look at any other play equipment. And the screams from 4 young girls on that type of equipment. Serious headache. So when we finished lunch my son went on the playground for a while and we both had fun with the spinning thing (even tho part of it was broken when we went, come to think of it two of the lights on the pathway were broken too). In the end I said to him let's go, you can go on the flying fox another day. I had warned him as soon as they got out of the car that if he wanted a go he better put his food down and go now before they get there, but he decided food was more important at the time). Plus another group came down as well with their cricket stuff and played on the grassed area. o it quite a popular place and we will probably visit there again one day so he can have a shot on the flying fox. Fifth star must be with the toilets because they aren't here either :-(

Watch out for the Bunyip…read more It's very peaceful here, you can take a walk around the lake which will take about 10 mins max and there are various places to sit and watch birds. I think that's why the Bunyip moved here, because it's such a serene place to be. I like to come and feed the ducks bread, which apparently you aren't supposed to do but hey, I'm a rule breaker. Nice to come a read a book or have a picnic on a warm, sunshiney day or evening to get a fix of nature. I was kidding when I said watch out for the Bunyip, He's actually pretty nice.

Woorabinda Lake is a beautiful little lake hidden away behind Stirling…read more Part of the Stirling Linear Park, Woorabinda originally formed because the newly installed train line prevented water from running as it usually did in the area and pooled in the natural depression now known as the lake. Regardless of the fact that this isn't a natural lake, it is a haven for native species. Water birds like ducks and geese flock here and there are plenty of fish kicking around underwater, not to mention the amphibious and insect components of the area which are numerous to say the least. There are tracks beginning and running through here. To walk around the lake is pretty short (only about .6km), but a nice one for the dogs or kids as the paths and boardwalk are well maintained. There are benches and a bird watching house amongst the wetlands here too if you're planning on a picnic or need a short break. There's also a jetty if you feel like sitting out and catching a few redfin.

Even though the playground isn't the biggest or the best, it certainly does a good job of entertaining the little ones. If you are looking for a place for a birthday party, this would be it, at least people seem to think so. There are always children's birthday parties here and why not? There's a better-than-some playground with sheltered table/chair areas close to it. The toilet block is just a short walk away to the car park area and look at all that green grass! Worthy of a roll from even the biggest of kids, I think. I can't remember seeing a drinking fountain but I can't imagine this place without one. I'm sure there would be something near the BBQ. Woohoo! I found TREASURE!!!! This playground area is a definite 'Step right up! Step right up!'…read morekind of place. It's so beautifully built in among the tall pine tree forest and if the map is anything to go by, I have a lot more to discover here in due time. There is a basketball half court and a netball ring/half court, picnic tables and drinking fountain. It is a magical little place and you can even go on a little walk down to explore the creek down the hill. The only downside is there are no toilets so best go before leaving home. This playground is actually located on Pine Drive, Aberfoyle Park SA and not the address above. The above address of Reynell RD features a bmx track and walking trails only.

There are BBQs, shaded table/chair areas, lots of nice lawn areas, toilets, a drinking fountain (that works!!!), a skate ramp and LOTS of wonderful play equipment that would suit a variety of age groups and abilities. This is definitely a 'destination playground'. There's plenty of room if you want to spread out a blanket and have a picnic, or there are a couple of BBQs ready for sizzling. Quite a waddle from the rather busy Kenihans Road is a okay/slightly better than average…read moreplayground. In fact, if you have your car and have trouble walking downhill, you might want to enter from Buchanan Grove (head down Braeside Avenue and take your first left). It's a No Through Road so you may not get a park, but it's worth a try. Two things stand out at this playground, the pond/fountain and the massive green lawn, which doesn't say much for the playground......but it does have flying fox! This isn't a 'destination' playground (don't go out of your way to visit) but if you're in the area and want a nice place to eat lunch or feed the resident ducks, it's a nice place to be. The playground is quite a distance from the road (Kenihans Rd) and it's uphill so little ones are a bit more 'contained' than at other places. There's no fencing around the ponds and don't get excited when you see the drinking fountain, it doesn't work...or at least didn't when I wrote this. The ground cover is bark chip except for the swing area which is rubber. I have to say this......it's always greeeeeeeeeen! The massive lawn area always looks so inviting and most of the area gets some good shade in the afternoons. It's a good space to kick a footy, provided you don't mind playing on a bit of a hill or just letting the children run off all their excess energy. *Dogs allowed* *No toilets* *No BBQ*

This park is pretty cool. Really, the main drawcard for me are the walking tracks. I'm a big fan, because, if you've read my other reviews, you'll know that I usually have my dog with me, and I often have lots of time to waste in my occupation, so I tend to visit lots of parks. The tracks here are really quite good. Long and meandering, they're a nice way to improve your fitness and enjoy some beautiful scenery. I've seen plenty of native fauna here. If you're looking for a barbecue spot, this isn't really it. Solid fuel barbecues are pretty much forbidden, and I don't think that gas barbecues are a great idea here either.
