It is fully fenced, bar the small entrance. The playground has a good variety of activities plus a small and large slide to cater for more ages and levels of competence. There's also plenty of shade cover from the large tree's. Has none of the added benefits one expects nowadays but is okay as playground for a little run around to exert some energy.

Having lived in Adelaide all of my life, it is rare for me to come across a spot that I quite…read moreliterally had no idea existed. Last year I has one such experience, and I struck GOLD! The Jack Watckins Reserve on Churchill Road is really easy to miss. It's entrance is nestled between the railway yard (used mainly for storing the pylons for wind-farm windmills) and some light industry, but once you enter the car park you see rolling hills (Julie Andrews starts singing), a picturesque gum tree lined path, play equipment, circuit training equipment and even a bbq area! The area is perfect for a family picnic, with plenty to keep the junior kiddiwinkles entertained plus a basketball half court for the older sporties and plenty of room for a dob of the pigskin should the testosterone levels reach an appropriate level! Although the park has many fun options for all, it also has a serious side being dedicated to those who lost their lives due to Asbestos diseases as a result of working on the old Islington Railway line. There are many stories and writings located in the park and along the pathway that are definately worth the time to read. Even if you don't take the clan for a bbq day there, it is worth the time to swing by and see some of what Adelaide has hidden if you look hard enough. P.S. The Park is open until 8:00pm during daylight savings.

Plus it does have a great fence all the way around it. Inside the fence the park has a concrete path all the way around the area. The playground and some nice play space in the middle. I used to love parks with paths when i was a kid. You can take little ones here with smaller ride ons or kids just learning to ride and it is much better and safer than on the footpaths. They can happily ride around for ages. And most parks nowadays usually have dirt tracks or nothing so it was great to find one like this. It is on a quieter street and is a very appealing space.

Then you can walk all the way around the reserve and oval on the pathways pretty much. There's plenty of shading parking as well on Sutherland Road. There are BBQ's and plenty of seating, with tables as well in some area's. There's doggy bags provided near the playground area. The playground wasn't large by any means but would be okay to hang out at for a little while at least. If you plan on staying longer then bring a ball or frisbee as well. Still no toilets :-(

Like two full but completely separate playgrounds. Plus, not in the pics, there was a full size tennis court and toilets! The toilets were probably a part of the Community Centre which is also on the reserve land and available for hire. Would be a great place for a family event or reunion of some sorts and then you would have the additional facilities of the centre itself. Plenty of seating, shade from tree's, water fountains (yes more than one!), shelter and FUN! Also still plenty of open space for ball games or frisbee's. So bring some other toys along to make the stay more enjoyable. Only down side is no fencing but it really was not a busy street on the side the playgrounds are on, facing Fourteenth Street.

There is a large oval and sporting club facing Hanson Road and this playground is around the back…read moreof the oval off Adele Street (easier for access too and less traffic than the other surrounding rouds). The playground is actually not too bad and has a couple of different things to most playgrounds, which tend to keep amused a longer if it is something they can't play on at every playground they go to. Plenty of shade over the area from the nearby tree's as well, at least there was in the afternoon when we visited this one. Not much else as far as water or toilets. And don't let that fence in the pic fool you - it is only about 20 metres long and only just in front of the playground. It is joined to nothing and would probably be more of a deterrent than a safety barrier of any sorts. But I guess it may buy you some extra time if one did try and run towards the road.
