The only bad part about this playground is the lack of fencing (although it's not really needed I…read moredon't think here) and the bad parking as the park is basically at the end of three dead ends. However it is a nice, very shady, very green area. It looks new and fresh, or maybe just recently had a little lift. And on the day I went it appeared to be a well used area as well. The playground has some great different items in it to play on that made the kids enjoy it more. There's also a sheltered area, plenty of seating, drinking fountains, rubbish bin, even a couple of tennis courts. The grassed space is beautiful and there are enough buildings, shelters, tree's, etc to be able to have a great game of chasey or even hide and seek here. I love parks where you can play heaps of games without actually having to take anything. There are no BBQ's but it wold be just devine to have a lovely picnic here.

The playground has heaps of shade and two sets of equipment as well as normal swings and a groovy red swing that looks like a giant donut. Because of the playground and the barbecues it's always pretty busy with families hanging out. There is also quite often a young man there having a barbecue by himself: I like your style you whacky dude. The only downside: the men's toilets. I spent many months walking past and thinking: 'interesting. Why do so many men use these toilets around five pm? And why is it whenever one man goes in a different one comes out a few minutes later?' Dim? Yes, yes I am. I'm a live and let live kind of person but these toilets are right next to a busy playground. I mean come on now, are there not better locations around? Anyhoo, it's a great spot, just don't use the men's bathrooms, especially after five. Unless you, 'really need to go.'

There are two things about Rymill Park that I particularly love. Firstly there's the kiosk where…read moreyou can get the best fruit toast anywhere in Adelaide and if you're lucky, Arnie the long time kiosk owner will make it for you. Secondly there's the statue of Alice in Wonderland designed by the amazing John Dowie. The statue may seem out of place to some in this inner city parkland but there is something a little magical about Rymill Park. As you get close to the lake and take in the bridge and the landing and the wonderfully relaxing surrounding. In so many ways I think a statue of Alice is entirely appropriate. If you have kids, taking them to Rymill Park to feed the ducks is always a great thing to do. Even if you don't have kids, grab your stale bread and head on down. Hire yourself a row boat and do your feeding from the middle of the lake. As many have eluded to there are problems with the water in the lake but I like to think of this as just another part of the changing face of a city park. Sometimes the lake looks stunning and other other times it looks like hell. The good news is the Adelaide City Council has just completed a refurbishment of the lake and the leaking problems have been fixed - they say things should be good for about the next 15 years so I'm not going to worry about it this week at least.

During the Fringe a small section of the park (this one is actually pretty bit) is sectioned off for the overflow from the Garden of Unearthly Delights (and for those people who really can't be bothered waiting around for the crowds to disperse). However at other times it is a great picnic spot, and even has a little lake with rowboats and a kiosk. Oh, it you explore the place enough you will even find a statue of Alice from the Wonderland fame.

Having lived in Adelaide all of my life, it is rare for me to come across a spot that I quite…read moreliterally had no idea existed. Last year I has one such experience, and I struck GOLD! The Jack Watckins Reserve on Churchill Road is really easy to miss. It's entrance is nestled between the railway yard (used mainly for storing the pylons for wind-farm windmills) and some light industry, but once you enter the car park you see rolling hills (Julie Andrews starts singing), a picturesque gum tree lined path, play equipment, circuit training equipment and even a bbq area! The area is perfect for a family picnic, with plenty to keep the junior kiddiwinkles entertained plus a basketball half court for the older sporties and plenty of room for a dob of the pigskin should the testosterone levels reach an appropriate level! Although the park has many fun options for all, it also has a serious side being dedicated to those who lost their lives due to Asbestos diseases as a result of working on the old Islington Railway line. There are many stories and writings located in the park and along the pathway that are definately worth the time to read. Even if you don't take the clan for a bbq day there, it is worth the time to swing by and see some of what Adelaide has hidden if you look hard enough. P.S. The Park is open until 8:00pm during daylight savings.

As playgrounds go, this is a two star place, but seeing as there's more to this reserve, it gets…read morethree stars. The playground by itself is pretty boring but the added equipment dotted around the oval (chin up bars, swinging monkey bar thingys) add something extra for the older children. There are BBQs and table/chairs in a few different locations here...none of them sheltered or shaded though :-( Once again, there's no shade over the playground except for what's built into the equipment. The skate park was the winner on the day I was here. No-one looked like they were even contemplating playing on the playground, everyone was interested in the skate park. *Dogs allowed* *Drinking fountains (in varying working order)* *BBQs* *Table/chairs*

There is also a pretty decent little skatepark that works great for kids and beginners but is also fun for the more skilled skaters. The recently added playground equipment looks great as well. You know what? For a playground in amongst rose bushes and neatly trimmed lawn, this isn't too bad…read more I wouldn't say it's a great place for toddlers to 'hang out', this playground is essentially best suited for early Primary School aged children who could use the equipment to its full potential. There's NO shade and there's no drinking fountain, neither of which Burnside Council seem too eager to put in to their playgrounds. Low and behold, there's also no tennis courts which is almost unheard of! I know I'm being sarcastic, but I would hazard a guess to say that about 85% of the Burnside playgrounds have tennis courts. La-de-da!

Its perfectly tended and manicured symmetry, paired with the fact that it is often empty adds a slight suburban freakiness to the perfection. The square is set in the well to do suburb of Toorak Gardens, an inner eastern suburb of Adelaide, located 2 km east of the Adelaide city centre There is some lovely and well cared for childrens play equipment and walkways leading to the centre shaded by dense vines growing over a wooden structure. Some friends of mine got married in the square a couple of years ago, which is what I remembered today when I passed through the space. Despite being smack bang in the middle of private residences, the heart of suburbia, the setting was idyllic on the day and suited their purposes flawlessly. As teens they had spent time there after school, hanging around and being cheeky. A great location for a picnic if you're a local and can't be bothered truckin it (or facing the crowds) in the much larger nearby Tusmore park. Great for kids too.

Here's a quick list of reasons why I didn't give it five stars (bare with me, you all know how picky I can be); some shaded table/chair areas near the BBQ would be great, most of the equipment would be suited to younger children/toddlers more than older children.
