I just discovered that those really cool trees that I used to play in as a kid are called Morton Bay Figs, and if you are a kid (or like me, just young at heart) then these literally beat any playground that any council can build. You probably guessed it - I used to come here often as a kid, namely because it is a huge park with lots of open spaces, and with the large trees here, lots of shade to set up a picnic. Even with the trees, you can still play plenty of ball games (with the exception of golf - I don't think people would be really impressed if you cracked out your golf clubs here) without the balls getting stuck in any of the trees (though that always seems to happen, even in an empty field). This place is a great place for a picnic, or even just spending a quiet weekend doing nothing. Oh, and if you're board, the Botanic Gardens (free) and the Zoo (not free) are nearby. read more
