It is pretty convenient in that it is just across the road from the beach, and there are facilities here that one can use to change, or wash down. Yeah, it's a pretty nice, and quite handly, place to spend some time.

It was good though, just not what I thought it would be. It is however an Access For All playground so there's a ramp for those children in wheel chairs. This is a park designed for toddlers. And don't worry parents, the entire play area is rubber flooring so if they fall, they bounce lol. I really liked that the toilets are close by but wish there was more (or anything!) in the way of shade. There's a BBQ and a sheltered table/chair area just in front of the toilets. There's also plenty of room for running around on some pretty lush grass. I apologise for there being only one photo. I have never been to this park when there has been less than 10 other people here. This playground…read moreis always busy...busier than I would have thought to tell you the truth. Even though the playground isn't the biggest or the best, it certainly does a good job of entertaining the little ones. If you are looking for a place for a birthday party, this would be it, at least people seem to think so. There are always children's birthday parties here and why not? There's a better-than-some playground with sheltered table/chair areas close to it. The toilet block is just a short walk away to the car park area and look at all that green grass! Worthy of a roll from even the biggest of kids, I think. I can't remember seeing a drinking fountain but I can't imagine this place without one. I'm sure there would be something near the BBQ. The playground has some shelter built into the design. It's not a lot but it's better than nothing. I remember coming down here when I was much younger and jumping off the jetty, namely because it was really deep and you could do it without causing yourself significant injuries - until I got to a point where I started questioning what I actually achieved by jumping off the prefectly good jetty (as well as developing a concern about all of the fishing lines that happen to dangle of the jetty on most weekends). Okay, Brighton may not have the facilities of some of the other beaches in Adelaide, and if you don't live in the south then it can be a bit of a hike to get there, but I have to admit I've always have a pretty good time when I've landed up here.

Brighton Beach is one of my favourites in metropolitan Adelaide. Not too far from the CBD and…read moresituated along a row of eclectic eateries and shops, the beach is close to the obligatory Fish 'n' Chip stores and a super sweet gelateria. Parking at this beach is a breeze compared to Glenelg and Henley Beach, parks are scattered down Jetty Road with more down the Esplanade either side of the jetty. Parking lasts for three hours on average but parking a wee bit further down saves you from the parking inspector. For those opting for public transport, the Train station is a 10 minute walk away and the bus is of a similar distance. There are public showers and toilets scattered down the beach so that the sand doesn't come home in the car and their is usually enough space on the beach to run a cricket match without angering the odd grumpy old man or accidently hitting a six into the tourists' esky. Speaking of Eskys, the Espy's Bottle-O will sell you ice for $4 a bag if you need to stock up. For those looking for a sunset swim or beach walk, Brighton is a safe beach but I'd personally go for Glenelg or Henley as their are more people present and frequent police patrols.

There's a variety of equipment; everything from a spinning egg cup (Amanda terminology lol), a flying fox, a climbing frame, as well as the usual slides and swings. The whole playground is bark chipped although there seems to be rubber under the swings that has been covered up by bark chip. There's a sheltered table/chair area which came in great need seeing as it was bucketing down when I took the photo. There is also lots of room to kick a ball, run around or ride a bike. Unfortunately, there's no BBQ or drinking fountain or toilets but for a sleepy neighbourhood playground, this is anything but boring. *Dogs allowed* *No drinking fountain* *Sheltered table/chair*

I have to say, at first glance this playground looks pretty cool, and it might be for the older…read morechildren but forget about this place if you are wanting to entertain toddlers. Talking to one of the locals, she informed me it used to be quite a good playground area for toddlers but now there is almost nothing they can use. Even the smaller slide that you would think is for younger children, can only be accessed by climbing up the wire ropes. The last time I checked, most younger children don't have the skills or courage to climb and balance like that. For the older children, this playground would probably have the same WOW factor that I felt (I AM a big kid after all!) but I'm not sure if it would be too long lived. There is a sheltered table/chair area and even a BBQ but it's on the other side of the park well away from the playground. I don't think I saw a drinking fountain or toilets. Wattle Reserve resembles a battle field. City of Holdfast…read moreBay Council have now turned it into a car park for trucks, excavators and the private vehicles of staff associated with the destruction of the Esplanade adjacent and the Reserve itself. There are also transportables parked on the northern side. Perhaps these will remain after work is finally completed to be used as emergency public housing (and as there is no consultation with residents by Council, DENR, McConnell Dow, or Holdfast Concrete, a finish date is not known...2013? 2014?, perhaps even 2015?) The noise level is unacceptable to park users and surrounding residents, yet is deemed acceptable by the Department of Environmental Vandalism. Foul language used by workers operating on the beach can be clearly heard for some considerable distance. Any comment made to McConnell Dow employees is met with aggression and abuse. Wattle Reserve...once the most beautiful piece of public land along the coastline - now dirty, dangerous and one to avoid at all costs.

More pluses are the 'adult' fitness equipment dotted along the outside of the track. Ideally I'd like to give this a five star rating but even with all these wonderful 'extras' it still can't hide that the playground itself is a little lacking. It certainly isn't the worst there is, but it's older than the rest of the park, dated and not very engaging for a wide range of children. You will find all the trimmings at this park however; electronic toilets, sheltered table/chair areas, BBQ's and even a cricket pitch. For any of you who are struggling to find a physical outlet for for your teenagers or pre-teens,…read moregive this place a go. It's used by Marymount College between 8-5:30 weekdays and up to 12:30 on Saturdays but this place will put your teen through their paces. I haven't seen a playground like this before. There are signs on all the equipment explaining how to use each section and if there wasn't anyone around, I would have been tempted to try it out! Thankfully there were people around because I didn't have to prove to myself how unfit I really amo r spend the next three days unable to move. Keep in mind that this equipment is within the school property so I'm not quite sure how available any of the other 'extras' I like would be, if at all.

There are tennis courts at this park but they don't belong to the City of Marion so you will need to book and pay for the use of them. What I really liked about this park is all the tall trees. They cast such a cooling shade over the majority of the park. Unfortunately the playground doesn't seem like it would get much shade but the BBQ and the table/chairs would. It's a shame there isn't shelter here for those days when the weather can't make up its mind. The swings are separate from the other playground equipment but there's not a lot of room between the two areas. The park isn't fenced but the equipment is set back from the road a decent distance. I have to say that this playground fits a lot into a small space! It also caters for a rather wide…read morerange of age groups which is always a plus. There's some shade incorporated into the slide and trees nearby but I don't think they would give the playground too much shade. There is a bench seat under the shade of trees however and it's nice and close to the playground. The table/chair area isn't sheltered but the BBQ is...which is the complete opposite to a lot of other park areas. On the other side of the playground are some tennis courts which are open to the public when the club isn't using them. This wouldn't quite be a 'destination' playground but it's well and truly worth a look and a play if you're in the area.
