Confession: I'm a card addict. This place is filled with cards. Sometimes they are maybe targeted towards an older crowd but, hey, it's Edmonds. They also have great holiday decor for every "holiday" from beach season to Thanksgiving, Fourth of July to Christmas. They have you covered. Need Halloween ornaments? This is your place. Great for last minute gift buying. Great for a "pick me up" for a sick friend (or yourself). Their paper napkin selection is amazing. And they have a lot of great soaps, scarves, wallets, and other stuff you do not need. Now about that customer service... it's hit or miss. Sometimes I walk in are they are super friendly. Other times, the woman behind the counter doesn't acknowledge me. What's the expression? Every one of us is carrying some burden? That said, I've never had anyone be outright rude to me. read more

If you're obsessed with stationery stores (as I am, admittedly), you will love this place! It has a nice selection of greeting cards (an area just for local artists' cards), home gift accents (lovely soaps and handwashes, small glass platters, small tablewares and house accessories), gorgeous boxes of stationery and "thank you" cards (many by Papyrus, which is a wonderful line), a whole room devoted to rolls and rolls and rolls of wrapping papers and party items, and a whole downstairs devoted to seasonal fare (i.e., XMas and Easter stuff on sale). I thought the prices of cards and gift items the same or better than comparable stores in Seattle or the eastside. I could have spent an hour or more in this store, easy. read more

HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE BY THE OWNER!!!! I was having a super fun Friday with a couple of friends who were visiting me from out of area. We popped on the ferry over to Edmonds to have lunch and do some shopping. We always loved visiting The Papery because of the fun cards, great displays and unique gift items. I found some cute candles in the 70% off SALE area on the lower level. I went to purchase them and the nice sales lady said (as she rang them up) "Oh these are 50% off...not 70% off after she rang them up. She was nice about it...and I said "Oh but they were in the 70% area downstairs on the middle table in the Christmas item area". Before the NICE lady had a moment to respond a horribly rude woman (who was standing next to her at the cash register) said "NO! They are 50% off not 70%" and I said "that's strange because that is not what the sign said on the table." The rude woman went on to say...that I was wrong and that if I didn't want to purchase the candles at 50% (and I quote) and yelled at me "then don't by them!" I never raised my voice and never at any point was I confrontational (probably because I was in shock. I calmly replied " I am not going to battle you over the % off but I believe you are wrong". She then YELLED at me again and told me I was wrong and then she stormed downstairs (to where the candles were)....talking to herself the entire time she was down there...ranting and raving. At this point I was just in shock. I paid for my candles and the two nice ladies that work there that saw this entire display of really awful behavior apologized and I said "is she always that way?" They responded, "sometimes yes and we are so sorry." I told them that it wasn't their fault, but I did say I would NEVER shop there again..and I would spread the word about my experience and encourage people to NOT shop here. My friends that were with me were just as horrified. Both ladies at the counter apologized to all of us..they seemed really embarrassed. The most amazing thing about the entire story...the lady that treated me so horribly is the OWNER and her name is BARRI! So...BARRI..I have some advice for you.... 1. Being nice costs nothing 2. The customer is always right 3. You need to think twice about how you treat your customers. read more

If you wonder why local retailers are going out of business because they lack considerate customer service to the online Giants this place won't be around much longer due to inconsideration and an attitude as if they are Fortnam and Mason London (they probably have no idea who that retailer is). If they did they would have never opened their doors. How they continue? Stupid patrons. Rude. Condescending. Not friendly. And....it's not like Edmonds is a shopping destination. Shop online. There are so many better options. Don't waste your time in this very crappy store. Terrible experience. Fire the staff. Owner needs a new focus and a different industry to work in. Must own the building. Sales to most who are discerning would never shop here again. If once after reading this review. Walk on by. Don't bother. Just terrible. read more

I was on a mission to find calligraphy items and this place dissapointed. They had a few tips in a glass case, but that was it. I went here first because Yelp suggested it when I entered the criteria in the search engine. They had a very large variety of greeting cards, ranging from funny, to serious and everything for any age. There was a lot of trinkets, decorations and gift items, especially it being the holidays and very small amount of actual stationary items. Downstairs was a very different feel than the homey upstairs. There were some sale items from past holidays, nautical themed trinkets and some stationary. All in all, I won't make it a point to visit again. I can get greeting cards elsewhere and they just had too many decorative items. read more

I read how the store was filled with interesting things- this is true- There were also several reviews stating the clerks were nasty...I disagree with this observation. My experience was very different, I encountered 2 lovely women, friendly, helpful & delightful. read more

I'm giving a two star review only because the woman behind the cash register refused to allow me to use their restroom . I had been out to shop with my daughter, and I had been downstairs doing some browsing ... I don't enjoy asking shopkeepers to use the restrooms , but we are human ... all of us. My daughter was shopping for cards, and I actually saw many items that I would have purchased... but when the woman told me " we have a restroom , but it's not for the public use...it's NOT handicapped accessible and if you fell in there , we would be liable". I didn't have time to explain about the law, or argue with her that the steps that went down to the lower level of the shop are also a liability.. if someone tripped and fell down those stairs... She told me that there is a public restroom near the chamber of commerce ... I knew that would be too far and asked if there were any restrooms closer... she told me " go to Starbucks ... they are right down the street". I exited the store quickly and will not ever be back to purchase anything . I felt that this lady could have allowed me to use the facilities... and if she had, I know that I could have easily purchased gift cards, napkins, beach related decor( some of my fav things here) etc. There are other stores similar to this one elsewhere in and near the area. This shop has many caspari etc napkins and other high dollar paper goods ... and their prices are similar to the paper source etc. This store has a nice selection of high quality paper products . My daughter did make 3 purchases . They display items nicely. read more

This place is full of amazing little gifts, home accents, greeting cards, candles, holiday and seasonal items and wonderful displays, and much much more! Right now, I love all the ocean/nautical home items and party supplies. It's so cute in here, I just love to wander through! read more

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this store and their staff. Owner is very involved and obviously takes care of her staff because they've all been there a long time and really care to help. The owner so I set down with me and help me pick out my wedding invitations and my daughter's birthday invitations. Everything was exactly what I wanted and she even help me figure out what I wanted when I can verbalize it. Prompt, on time, well priced. I would recommend this as a stop for anyone because they have more then just stationary. Recently they've been carrying awesome purses, jewelry, and candles. read more

I've been here on other visits and had similar bad or indifferent customer service experiences and now only shop this place out of necessity, but now I won't even do that. I went in today to pick up a small gift bag and got this nasty glare from the woman behind the counter (short, round, slightly curly dark hair). I get it that I'm walking into their store in jeans and a tee shirt with no makeup on, but I work in a place where clothes get dirty and collect odors pretty fast, so I don't exactly dress up. So I get my one item I came in for, take it to the counter to pay for it, and get snapped at that they won't run debit/credit cards for under $5 sales, along with another death glare. I know it doesn't take more than 50 cents or so per sale to run a card through, and I would have no problem to pay the fee since I had no cash on me. Instead, they lost a sale and I won't be coming back now even if I need something. The other bad experience I had was a few years ago when I was standing in line to pay for my items and the cashier called the person behind me forward to check out first. To the Papery: you need to do your store a huge favor and fire the woman that "helped" me today. She was past rude, she was downright hostile; I don't see why you'd want someone like that representing your business. I know you have at least one really nice, pleasant person there. If the person today is the store owner, it's surprising that your store is still open. read more

I could spend hours looking at their stuff! I find the cutest and most unique items here. It's always a little stressful when I go with my toddler because she wants to touch everything, but the ladies are always so gracious and kind. Love that they have those big wooden stands with small sheets of stickers that I got when I was little. On our last visit her tiny hands managed to unintentionally shop lift a few things which we later found in our stroller basket. I felt AWFUL! We returned them and apologized and again the staff couldn't have been sweeter. Love, love, love this shop! read more
