We bought two things that were almost identica, so when I went back in to return it less than 24 hours later they would not refund me my money that they only offered store credit. I was just visiting this area for the week and am too far away to shop here again to just casually chop. So them refunding me was really the only way I'd really be receiving my money Back. At the time of purchase they did not say items could not be returned, and if they were returned they would only be given store credit. This is something most businesses do if they have this policy. They pointed to a small sign on the table. I told them in the future it might be nice to have a bigger sign that isn't so easily over looked or tell customers when they purchase something that any items they purchase can not be returned. they said they don't make exceptions on this rule that they are a small business. I'm tempted to dispute this with my credit card company but am going to cut my loses. I handed the gift card to someone I met on the street a couple blocks down in hopes they can get some use out of it, since I won't be.

I was completely captivated the moment I walked in--the store is filled with unique, beautifully displayed handmade goods. I ended up browsing every single corner! My mom loved Hawaii and loved the Pacific Northwest, so I asked for tropical arrangements, PNW arrangements, and a large display that included both. Liz did that exceedingly well! She even included horsetails with the PNW look, something that is very unique and not typically part of any arrangements that I have seen. I appreciated being able to talk to her on the phone when needed, as well as the quick response I got an emails. On the day of the event, we were short one arrangement, so her team put together an additional arrangement on the spot. The final bill surprised me! I thought we would be paying much more than the final amount turned out to be.

Everything is friction-held together for the most part (tiny amounts of glue on occasion, from what I gathered by chatting with people). With all the pieces pre-painted/cut so you can focus on going through assembly as a fun time. Some of the models have very simple motor/light electronics which bring them to life. Unlike LEGOs, these are designed to be crafted together and then displayed without remixing them further. Large variety of model types. Some which fit onto a bookshelf and tell a story, some which are small city buildings, or some that are just items like flowers. The store interior showcases a large variety of the models, and staff were helpful with pointing out ones which fit a particular interest (we had a friend we know loves stag beetles and surprise, they had a stag beetle). The models run around $40 for the middle sized ones, and we ended up buying several, as nicer gifts to friends who we know would appreciate the fun of assembling them and showing off their creations.

The cashier (who I had only glanced at peripherally, makeup/earrings/shoulder length dressed hair) replies to my comment "my pronouns are they/them" I looked up from my child & apologize for saying "her". The cashier now making no eye contact points to a name tag that includes their pronouns & says "I am wearing a pin that states my pronouns" I said "again, I'm sorry I hadn't read your pin or engaged with you I was trying to help my child". The cashier finishes our transaction & while directly in front of us dramatically says to their coworker "I need to take a break I'm too upset". What the heck just happened, at no point prior to speaking to my child had I made a personal engagement with this cashier, I am an Ally & somehow I ended up apologizing twice as if I had intentionally done something wrong to the cashier. After the cashier walked away I asked to speak to a manager to point out what unprofessional interaction had just taken place. The manager's response was that they stand by their employees use of pronouns & feelings. I reminded the manager that I wasn't debating anything about pronouns. My issue was the way this employee responded to this situation, I wasn't an aggressive customer, I didn't make direct personal engagement with the cashier there was no focus pronouns. My obvious issue was the fact that their cashier felt it necessary to stand in front of us after receiving 2 apologies for my misuse of a pronoun & dramatically stated they needed a break because they were too upset" The manager says " I don't know what you're wanting from this because I'm not giving free tickets" I was in shock, I hadn't asked for free tickets, I hadn't asked for anything, my thought was maybe as a manager they would want to know this cashier could use some support in their customer engagement training. This wasn't about intentional misuse of a pronoun or even that I apologized twice for my peripheral mistake, this was about a Seattle Aquarium employee taking dramatic emotional response to what was clearly unintentional. I felt like I ended up in the cashiers therapy session & was receiving the blunt end of what others may have caused them, which is completely inappropriate & unprofessional when all I'm trying to do is help my child count change for their purchase. Thanks Seattle Aquarium for choosing an Ally to target for your employee struggles with no recognition of the customer, way to ruin a visit to the aquarium.
