There really are very few bad places to get sweet things in the market and the place really is coming down with bakeries and bun shops. The competition within the 50-60 or so food stalls has to be ridiculously fierce, I can think of at least six places essentially doing the same thing.
This is one of them, and to be honest it's hard to fault the effort. Everything is extremely well presented and well crafted. To try and avoid ballooning into an elephant sized man I had a mini cupcake (well actually my sister bought a box of 12 mini cupcakes and I nabbed one).
It was lemon with a creamy butter lemon icing. Ridiculously rich and sweet but with a really subtle lemon ring and zest it was exceptionally balanced. You can always tell in these cases how freshly prepared the sponge is, soft and ever so slightly chewy.
The box was £8 for 12 teeny little, albeit , well presented cupcakes. I think it was two lemon, chocolate, coconut and some other variations on the usual classics. The closest competitor would probably be Marshmallow Grove who've really made an impression on the market in the last year. Mainly due to exceptional quality, flavour and presentability. That's no reason to overlook this stall though. read more
