To preface, I have experience hosting events from 50-200 guests and have worked with numerous venues and coordinators. Vanessa is by far the WORST venue coordinator I've interacted with in terms of customer service, industry knowledge, and communication skills. If you read the other positive reviews, you'll notice they ALL paid additional money for Vanessa to be their wedding coordinator. If you do not pay this, she is a horror to work with (as corroborated by the negative reviews), and I recommend AVOIDING this venue. Another reviewer also stated the owner is her brother-in-law so there is no recourse for her behavior and there are no other venue coordinators available. Detailed below are just some of the negatives: - The wedding was actually for my sister. She was having difficulties with Vanessa so asked me to assist. I reached out to Vanessa explaining who I was but never received a response. Instead, Vanessa told my sister that she felt threatened by my contact and will only work with individuals that signed the venue contract. I never said anything negative, but she often overreacted and took offense over nothing. - Every response took 2 weeks. She would contradict herself in the same email, which added confusion. - She would use made up lingo and when asked for clarification, she would blame us for not understanding "industry language" and still wouldn't clarify. In my 10 years, I've never heard some of the terms that she used. - She didn't understand standard wedding requests. We asked for a cake table and Vanessa responded that the request was unclear because she didn't know what size a cake table should be. We asked to add 2 rectangular side tables for guestbooks, gifts, etc. On the proposal, Vanessa commented "unsure why the client requested". - Unless asked, she wouldn't disclose critical information. We asked multiple times if additional tables (sweetheart, cocktail, etc.) are free. Vanessa confirmed they were free, but once the proposal arrived, it showed free tables with each linen at an additional charge. I told my sister to confirm if the venue provided cake cutting utensils. They don't (which is fine) but this is all information that you tell your clients without prompting. Imagine cutting the cake with no utensils! - When asked questions, she rudely responded with "NO" or "YOU'RE RESPONSIBLE" - In the 1.5 years of planning, despite multiple requests, the venue proposal was only updated twice - once for the initial contract and once when full payment was due 30 days before the event. My sister had to withhold final payment to get her to update it. She updated it 1 week after with inaccurate information. We annotated and returned it next day saying that she'd pay once it was correct. Vanessa had the audacity to respond that making notes on the proposal made it seem like they were stalling payment. Granted, there were 1-2 new updates amongst many more corrections but it was because Vanessa withheld information, and new adjustments were required after seeing the revised proposal for the 1st time. - Vanessa never provided a table layout. My sister had to create it and then confirmed if 5 round tables per row would work. On wedding day, we arrived to a different layout of 4 rounds per row. Vanessa blamed it on a 2 ft. wide photo arch, stating that she had to make adjustments to fit an arch that was discussed weeks prior. However, it was evident that the room would have NEVER fit 5 rounds per row. We had to rearrange the seating chart and the chairs to accommodate for her mess. - Also on wedding day, Vanessa was surprised to find the timeline included a champagne toast. Mind you, the timeline was provided 30 days ago and toasts are standard in weddings. So, she gave us 30 mins to decide on the additional champagne cost. I asked to remove 1 champagne bottle charge as there was an entire table of kids, but she refused. So apparently, the venue includes children in the champagne count even though serving alcohol to minors is illegal. - There was also a safety hazard. About 25 chairs with wheels/casters were intermingled with standard dining chairs. I unknowingly sat in a chair with casters and almost fell. There was no visible difference between the standard chairs vs. chairs with casters, and the table linens prevent anyone from seeing the casters. I told Vanessa who saw no issues and argued that people falling out their chair has never happened before. Thankfully, we were able to get these all replaced prior to the wedding to avoid any older guests from getting hurt. To the owner: Not only is Vanessa horrible to clients, but since she never updated the proposal, the kitchen used the original headcount and cooked 40 additional meals (talk about a waste of money). Also, due to not providing a table layout, the banquet captain Griselda set up tables once, and then had to come back 1 hr earlier to redo it, making staff do avoidable extra work. read more

I threw a baby shower this past weekend, and Nita and Vanessa were intuitive, caring, and knowledgeable throughout the planning, and their communication with us was always timely and thorough. Vanessa was very patient as I navigated through their extensive menu to create exactly what we wanted. Chef Matt and Fatima were amazing on site with us. They were so professional, friendly, and efficient - I was able to enjoy the shower because I knew they had it all under control. The amount of food they prepared was incredible, and we had tons of leftovers to freeze meals for when the baby arrives and the madness begins :). They cleaned up everything, and Fatima was a huge help after Chef Matt departed. This is a QUALITY company. This review is specifically for Vanessa Youngblood, who is the catering and event producer for The Painted Table Event Center, a wedding planner, and our main point of contact throughout our wedding reception planning. The review is longwinded, but please read before booking an event through The Painted Table Event Center. My husband and I chose The Painted Table Event Center for our wedding reception because of its highly rated events, good reputation of food, and nice atmosphere. We were planning a destination wedding as we do not live in Fresno, which made planning more difficult. We originally decided to go with the Painted Table from talking with a different employee who soon left after we booked the date. We were then transferred to Vanessa, where all the problems began - especially after we declined to hire her as our wedding planner. We were extremely disappointed and frustrated working with Vanessa as she had poor and confusing means of communication. She always used her own made-up jargon that she called "event planning jargon" when communicating with us, which led to multiple misunderstandings. Vanessa would also contradict herself within the same lines of communication and then reply with attitude when we asked for clarification, which was extremely unprofessional. Communicating was complicated as she would take multiple weeks to respond to our questions. Because we booked the venue over a year in advance, we had discussed finalizing details as the date approached. Rather than updating the proposal as we finalized details, she refused to make the updates until the day of the final payment, then blamed us for delaying the process. When she did update the proposal, she would not correct the numbers which showed we had a higher price to pay. In consequence, we often sent line-item corrections to each draft of the proposal, essentially doing her job for her, to attempt to get the corrections. We also asked about our open bar package and ensured the champaign toast was included multiple different times. She did eventually tell us via text message that it was indeed included, but the day of the wedding, she told us it was not included and charged us extra for it. We unfortunately updated our phones a few weeks before the wedding and no longer had written proof of her stating this. We had tried working on the table layout on the Prism App prior to the event, in an attempt to finalize the layout. But she never corrected us on the dimensions of the floor and tables, so when we arrived to decorate, we discovered the tables arranged differently than expected. This resulted in trying to re-number the tables in a way that made sense the morning of, which was frustrating as we had certain guests seated to specific locations of the room for specific reasons. Vanessa was rude and unpleasant to work with for months and made the entire planning process much more stressful than necessary. On the morning of the wedding, during set up she also sat in the corner of the room, being standoffish and glaring at our family who were there to help us. As we continued with the planning process, we realized this is not the first time she's made planning difficult for others, and we won't be the last. In previous negative reviews she's received, the owner, who is also her brother-in-law, has come to her defense. This will likely happen with our review as well. We do not recommend booking anything through The Painted Table, despite the other positive reviews. These positive reviews are mostly from attendees rather than the people who hired them. Vanessa is absolutely amazing, we fell in love with her level of customer service, her attention to detail, her true care about making our special day extra special. We are from LA and hosted a small, intimate wedding in Bass Lake. Due to such a small wedding, we wanted our guests to have the ultimate experience for traveling up north with us. So, I requested a steak and lobster dinner. We rented an Airbnb and the staff used the kitchen to create their magic. Chris, the owner was SO patient with me with my endless questions, last minute changes, and more. We had an unpleasant experience with PT. The food was good, but the communication and customer service leading up to our wedding was severely lacking, and at times simply unprofessional and unkind. PT is the big name in town and wins awards, but it appears they may be resting on their laurels. Our initial meeting went well and they were very supportive of our ideas, but reneged on certain aspects of our agreement. When we asked why, they said they never agreed to it in the first place and that we had a misunderstanding. We accepted it, even though our paperwork from them had it all in writing. Leading up to the event, our quote had numerous errors. When we asked for clarification, we could not get a clear answer. We were told the proposal was not wrong and essentially that we just didn't understand how catering works. A week before our wedding, we were so discouraged, we were considering canceling, which they said they were totally fine with... rather than simply reviewing the bill with us to see where the mistakes were and moving forward. We asked for a sit down meeting to try to identify the errors, and they (reluctantly) agreed. At the meeting, we pointed out the errors. For example, they charged for the same staffing twice. There were also places where the numbers or the math were simply wrong. These issues totaled thousands of dollars. Throughout the meeting, PT was defensive and condescending. They acted as if our expectation to have a correct bill was unreasonable and made several comments about how much of an inconvenience it was. They ultimately sent the correct bill, we paid it, and they catered our wedding. To this day, there hasn't been any form of contriteness or an apology for telling us multiple times it was our mistake/misunderstanding. As I mentioned, they made a lot of promises in our first meeting that were not kept, and we made a lot of concessions. However, after all the mistakes and their disregard for our concerns, we have realized this company just does not pay attention to the details and does not take ownership of their mistakes. Perhaps it was the individuals we worked with specifically, but the customer service interactions got very unprofessional and unkind in the end. It left a bad taste (no pun intended, because the food was good!) in our mouths. We would never hire them again and urge whoever is reading this to look at all the other reviews because we took a closer look after our issues and found this to be a theme. I think being a big fish in a small pond leads to many industry accomplishments that overlook the true nature of PT - a large company that can perform well for your event in the end but can also be very, very difficult to work with along the way. read more

Poor communication skills. The initial tasting went well but it was downhill from there. Our scheduled visit to their show room was disappointing because we showed up and our main point of contact completely no showed without a heads up or explanation, so her mother had to guide us through the show room, she was very pleasant but couldn't answer most of our questions. The food (while technically the correct dish) was prepared different than what we had tried at the tasting and had a different sauce, which caught us off guard on our wedding day. Constant blame game between PT and the venue in regards to our proposal, with charges being added without approval and items being excluded after we approved them, but nobody wanted to take the blame. At one point our contact seemed to blame me for the miscommunications since they occurred so often, even though everything I laid out was cut and dry and were simple requests. Also there was an incident where my mother in law asked just out of curiosity if the venue was in charge of the caterer (since they're exclusive) when the miscommunications came up in conversation. That lead to a frantic phone call from our catering contact saying how offended they were and making it sound like my MIL was being rude, but the venue owner said it was a simple misunderstanding and that my In-Laws were lovely to talk to. Overall I wouldn't have used them if they weren't the only option we were allowed to use for our wedding venue. Overpriced, bad at communication, and there's an overall sense of ego that happens when they're pressed on certain issues. read more

We decided we didn't want to worry about anything the month of our wedding and Vanessa at TPT came highly recommended from our venue. When I tell you she went above and beyond I mean it. Vanessa and the PT team went above and beyond my expectations, especially within such short notice! We contacted them a little less than TWO months before our wedding for catering. We met with Vanessa and she asked us how the planning was going. I had contacted a handful of vendors prior, but still had several loose ends that needed to be taken care of. I was SO over planning at this point, luckily for me The Painted Table offers wedding planning and day-of coordinator services. We made a list of things that needed to be done - decor, lighting, florals, etc. I sent Vanessa photos and my Pinterest boards, and she took care of the rest. Truly, a one-stop shop. There are so many logistics that make the day run smoothly and Vanessa handled it with ease. She and her team were the first ones there the day of and there till the very end at take down. Our venue didn't have indoor heating. She made sure we had heaters to keep our guests comfortable. I had purchased table numbers, but didn't realize I needed stands to hold them. The day of my wedding, she went back to the office to pick up some numbers. They were beautiful! She also coordinated our rehearsal the day before the wedding. My husband and I both come from Filipino families, so our entourage was huge. She was very patient with all +30 of us. It was such a relief being able to text her at any time the weeks leading up to the wedding. Anytime I had a concern, she handled it. Hire a planner and coordinator, you won't regret it! I was truly amazed at how Vanessa made my vision come to life. Everything was absolutely beautiful and I can't thank her and her team enough. The food was delicious! We tasted all of the food at The Painted Table Event Center over on Shaw/Blackstone. We were able to make some adjustments to our original selections. The glazed carrots are to die for. They're cooked perfectly and my husband loved them so much he wanted to ask for the recipe. The short rib and garlic mashers were also very flavorful and tasty. We chose four appetizers to be passed around during cocktail hour- the elote bowl, classic bruschetta, Italian sausage stuffed mushrooms, and chicken wellington. my wife (as of 24hrs ago lol) and i had met with several caterers once we got engaged in late 2020. we were told by most that the painted table was "the most expensive in the central valley" as a way to sway us to not even consider meeting with them, but we are both strong-minded women and we make our own decisions! so we met with vanessa and instantly fell in love with how kind, friendly, excitable, professional, and down for anything attitude! we knew right away we wanted her as our planner AND our caterer! we had vanessa as our planner for 2 whole years and she gave us her all every step of the way! her service is nothing shy of AMAZING! and the chefs? more like chef's KISS! our guests RAVED all night about how delicious everything was (and we have some picky people in our families). and the DESSERTS! i am diabetic and we have vegan friends as well and PT made soo many dessert options for our dietary-restricted guests. a little girl who cannot digest sugar properly attended our wedding and when i tell you her face LIT UP when i told her we had sugar free options for her their chefs are so amazing and so so talented. that food is definitely made with LOVE. now, i can't say if they are "the most expensive" caterers in the central valley but i CAN say they are the best food caterers we have ever had the pleasure of dining with (several times in the past 2 years)!! and i CAN say vanessa, hands down, is the best around. we love the painted table!!! thank you so much for such a beautiful event and a wonderful experience with you these past 2 years. we couldn't have asked for anything more!! read more

We really enjoyed working with Vanessa and the Painted Table for our wedding. Vanessa was always available for any of our questions and went above and beyond while helping us coordinate our wedding. My husband and I both work shift work and our hours are wonky and Vanessa was able to accommodate our schedules. She was always positive and did a great job setting up our wedding. Thank you for putting together the cutest (and tastiest!) picnic for our elopement in Yosemite! We opted to have a socially distant picnic with the few guests that we had at our elopement ceremony and reached out to The Painted Table for catering. I was so excited to find out that they could provide not just the food, but also picnic baskets, and even blankets if we desired! Vanessa was great in providing us with a menu with a variety of options to pick from that would travel well and split easily - and when it all showed up (on time - YES!), everything was packed with care, and with extra decorative touches that were so unexpected, but very appreciated. We recently celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary at our home. Painted Table served a delicious, bountiful buffet meal - tri-tip and a delicious parmesan chicken. Chicken is tough to cater but this was hot, juicy, and so flavorful. The tri-tip was good too, but again it is hard to serve a protein without barbequing on sight. Green beans were very nice, red potatoes tasty, and the salad fresh. Passed appetizers were very good. The staff made sure tables were set beautifully, they kept the buffet line moving and put together, and they cleared without interrupting. In fact, they stopped clearing while we had a short program. Our goal was to have a comfortable venue, great food, and well-served, with no hassles. Painted Table was right on. Thank you. read more

My mom and I hired the Painted Table to cater and provide event coordination services for my baby shower. Overall, working with owner Jeremy and his sister in law Vanessa was extremely negative and truly one of the worst experiences I have had working with "professionals". Overall the service we received was unprofessional, disorganized, and we felt we were treated with disrespect. On the morning of my baby shower Jeremy told us that he seriously considered calling us and canceling the event. A baby shower may seem silly to some, but it was a significant and emotional occasion for my family and I. It was truly heartbreaking that we were treated this way when our only wish was to receive the level of service initially promised to us. The details: We originally reached out to The Painted Table regarding catering services, but during my initial phone call with Vanessa she mentioned she could "take care of everything" for our event including décor, rentals, florals, etc. At first, we were impressed with Vanessa's friendliness and eagerness to help us execute our dream event. After we paid the deposit and signed the contract it became clear very quickly that we were no longer a priority and the friendly professional tone changed to one of attitude and annoyance. At one point we were told flat out that our 60 person event was not the "level of event" they are used to servicing. And when we requested a phone call we were asked "how long is this going to take"? Despite having multiple conversations about our event and sending several detailed outlines via email, many things went wrong the weekend of the event. Incorrect and dirty rentals arrived, the flower arrangements were dry and appeared to be days old, the Painted Table staff (including the chef) had no clue what they were supposed to do and had not been downloaded on the details of our service. There is a certain level of attention to detail required when you are calling yourself an event coordinator. We were expecting "everything to be taken care of" as we were promised, but our event was clearly an afterthought to them and it added a level of stress and negativity to our special day. On the day of, we were also informed that our "coordinator" was not staying for our event. Instead, the owner Jeremy would be attending. At this point we had not had a single conversation with Jeremy, nor had anyone downloaded him on the details of our event. When Jeremy arrived he greeted us with "I heard you have been a gem to work with" directed towards my mom, in a clearly sarcastic tone. He also accused me of calling Vanessa the b word during a phone conversation, which absolutely never happened. We tried to convey in a reasonable manner why we were so disappointed, but all of our concerns were met with defensiveness, attitude, and misplacing the blame. To this day the Painted Table has not taken any responsibility or apologized for their mistakes, disorganization, disrespect, and bold face lies. After the event my mom requested Jeremy to call her but we never heard from him. In talking to other people within the Fresno community we learned the Painted Table has a reputation of being very difficult to work with. It is interesting that their Yelp rating doesn't reflect this. If it had we definitely would have thought twice before hiring them. My family is well respected in Fresno. We have held many events and self admittedly have high expectations, but we have never experienced this kind of treatment. We will never use The Painted Table again. read more

I really like the banquet rooms because they are welcoming and warm. However, the food is not-so welcoming! I attend the CCSHRM luncheons that are held there quite often, and each time I go the food is substandard. Once, the breaded chicken they served was undercooked, and another instance the chicken salad they prepared for us was wilted. I have learned to stick with their pasta dishes because those always seem to be well prepared. Other than the pasta... I pretty much stay clear of the rest of the food - sad to say! read more

I could never say enough amazing things about Vanessa!!! She is an amazing coordinator. Our wedding day was a complete hit because of her and the amazing team at The Painted Table. Rain even threatened our special day, but Vanessa had a plan for rain or shine, she was on the job 100%. It was beautiful and had everything we requested and collaborated on. At the beginning, we had some hiccups due to COVID and had to reschedule our original wedding date, but Vanessa made the process smooth and bearable, in an otherwise emotionally stressful time. The event itself was awesome, memorable, and aesthetically perfect. The team of vendors she put together was great also! She really made us feel important and special throughout the whole process. I attended the White Hot Summer Party benefit for Community Hospitals Cancer Center on July 10, 2021 where The Painted Table was the caterer. They did such an amazing job with the presentation of the appetizers to the execution of the main course which was perfectly prepared and presented. The Painted Table catered my wedding and it was beautiful! The presentation was so pretty and even better, the food was amazing! Vanessa Youngblood was our wedding coordinator as well and made the whole process so easy! We scheduled an outdoor ceremony and it ended up raining so we had to move it indoor last minute. Even with all the craziness, they made the transition so seamless and easy! It still turned out beautiful! The team did amazing! read more

I can't say enough how thankful I am for the Painted table & most especially Vanessa. As you could imagine, this year has been tough for most brides. Due to Covid and wild fires we had lots of last minute changes when planning our intimate wedding. Vanessa was so supportive & understanding the whole way through. Food was below mediocre. If you had this food at a restaurant you would not recommend it to a friend. The owner is the rudest woman I have met. Her staff was incompetent of minor tasks. Passive aggressive. If I wasn't contracted by my venue to use this caterer I would've never use them and I would never recommend them to a soul. The tasting was gross, the food was oversalted overcooked and lacked flavor. We ended up choosing entrée that we did not taste. We decided to go with chicken which we didn't think could be messed up. The day of the wedding our chicken was over cooked, tough, the breading was soggy and the sides were dry. We did have 3 to 4 appetizers which were good and well received by the guests. read more

I am so beyond happy that we had The Painted Table cater our wedding! The food was amazing the graze table and buffet was so good! All of my guests were happy and kept complimenting Chef Bo's cornbread with butter. The smoked beef was so tender and tasty I couldn't get enough and the chicken was delicious! On top of having amazing food we received amazing service. They really take the stress off of wedding planning and make sure that your day goes smoothly. TPT is WONDERFUL! Vanessa, Alicia and Anita all deserve recognition for their hard work. They always accomodate me and my group without any issues. They have been my go to for all catering needs (luncheons, corporate dinners, mixer events etc) and they are super easy to work with. We have booked in their space and have used them to cater events at other locations without any issues. The food and drinks are amazing, and they serve a variety of diets (vegan, vegetarians, pescatarians, meat eaters + everything in between). We will be using them again, very soon. read more
