This place has seriously gone downhill! The last time I was in here it took 40 minutes to get food. The next time I came in they were equally busy, so I went and grabbed some ice and filled up my coolers at the gas station and came back to find ice cold food. I asked for them to at least heat it up and they refused and said it was ready as soon as I left. I also watched them all touch the fries to see how cold they were before they handed the same plate back to me! I won't be coming back here. Public TV in Nashville featured this spot on their TN Crossroads show. It sounded interesting, so I tried it. They have this little village and it was very popular. Parking was at a premium. While the food was good, it was not "over the top". I will just talk about the food, but the service was great. Something odd happened with my sandwich order. I thought I was getting a rib-eye sandwich, but what I got was different. Instead of all steak, there was a hamburger patty under the steak. Hmm. The flavor was great and the smoked meat taste was nicely balanced. My concern was that the hamburger patty was dry. It was a foodie puzzlement. Fries were round cut discs and really good. They were nice and hot, crisp on the outside and light inside. Now for the corn on the cob. Eh. For some reason, I expected something like a bicolor sweet corn. I had no reason to expect this, but what I got was a bit disappointing. It reminded me of what I would get at KFC. Large kernels, tightly packed and not very flavorful describes what I got. TN Crossroads mentioned their cakes at this restaurant and mine was wonderful. I believe they change their offerings. I got the Ding-Dong cake, fashioned off the Hostess snack cake. It was yummy, but a bit crumbly. A nearly 3 hour drive from my home does not justify a destination meal, although a destination meal here was part of my vacation. I do strongly recommend stopping here if you visit the nearby lake, if you are boating, fishing, or camping. You will be pleased. I was just expecting more. read more

Chocolate gravy, cute waitresses, but praise music and all have a blessed day... I was hoping for a bit more substantial breakfast but not here... they had this "Chawklit" gravy, that was reported to be all the rage locally. I figured they called it chocolate because it was chocolate colored, but nope... it was chocolate, like thin chocolate pudding... so that was over biscuits, then I had bacon and eggs over easy. Bacon was ok eggs more runny than I thought I'd ordered... but it's tough to get over easy right so whatev. The place is full of tchotchke stuff so if one likes shopping and looking thru that stuff and listening to praise elevator music then there you go... This is one of those little tourist trap type places, or at least that's what I thought it was when I drove by. But the guy I was traveling with assured me that once we got past the front, the food was worth it. He was ever so right. I always love a good brisket. They had a brisket sandwich / wrap / whatever that I would have never thought to put together. But I'm sure glad they did!! read more

Do not eat here if you have a service animal or a disability, eat breakfast with my husband certified and registered service animal, he was hyper because my husband had just had an episode, but when we got to our table he went behind my husband as he was on alert if he was gonna have another episode and then the owner Jay came and questioned if he was a register service dog and I said yes and he's like I just don't think so and he questioned us again and asked what he was for, which by law you're not supposed to question I even provided the card and he kept questioning my husband and he became embarrassed so badly along with all of our family I got so mad and we left. And it says right on the back of the card that business organizations must allow people with disabilities to bring their service dog into all areas of the facility if they have not even been trained or license or certified which are dog has been certified and trained and he questioned the training. I called back after we left because my husband was so upset and so embarrassed and I spoke to this owner in after I explained to him once again about the ADA rules and he said I can ask 20 questions about a service animal. I said no and explained again why the dog was the way he was acting and he said well then you shouldn't have came here then! So basically no service animals. We went into Savannah to Halle's Hangout and took the dog in there and no questions and no problems. I have filed a report with the ADA on this place. read more

We use to love it. The food has went down hill but it's still a neat place to eat. We make the hour drive often and it's about $100-$130 for us on average. After tonight, we will not go back. Tonight they sat us at a table between a screaming kid table and a table with a small kid with an electronic device that was wide open. My husband got up and discreetly asked to be moved, and the waitresses that were standing together literally started laughing at how bad our table was. They moved us. Another waitress took our drink orders. THEN an older waitress announces she's asked the electronic kid to turn it down and if we'd please move back to the table from Hell. We quietly declined and excused ourselves as she started to get an attitude. We will not go back. If your staff is laughing at how bad a seat is, you shouldn't set someone there. The woman with long dark hair sat our party at a table that was clearly to small for 9 people. We said we don't mind waiting. It was not close to closing so I'm not sure what the problem was. The food is descent & service on point. The outside looks really cool, and it is. Our waitress was not attentive. Our appetizers were skimpy, but the best part. I had the chicken salad sandwich. Didn't even finish 1/2. Tasted like it was store bought. Took two bites of potato salad. Also tasted store bought. Ordered Cole slaw for something green, it was brown. Would probably taste good on a type of sandwich but not as a side. Husband ordered ribeye sandwich, ate it but not satisfied. First off, this is a small "village" type environment...If you have ever been to Casey Jones Village, it is similar, though smaller in scale...From what we learned this was started as a ministry to help former addicts... What a great, eclectic place to eat...We were there on a Saturday, late afternoon and the place was packed...They managed to seat us at a 3 seat bar, which we had no complaints about... Customer Service?...FANTASTIC Ambiance/Decor?...Fun and fascinating...we learned that most of the items came from the owners personal collections...a lot of antiques and old items... Food?...Great!...I had the sliced Ribeye Sandwich, which, while it was a bit smaller than I expected, was worth every cent...The desserts looked sinfully good, but unfortunately I was too full to eat any...I was interested mostly in the Ding Dong Cake and the Homemade Banana Pudding... This place is roughly 80 miles from where I live and I will gladly make the trip here to eat again... I highly recommend this place!!! read more

I wish I could put this place in my pocket and carry it with me everywhere! It's such a neat place to eat and to come visit. There's a general store and restaurant, as well as a few other shops. We ate at the restaurant and their menu is top notch. My husband and my son both ordered the pulled pork sandwich and I ordered the brisket flat. The meat is so flavorful and tender and the portions are good. You can choose from waffle, homestyle, or sweet potato fries. I waffle fries and my husband ordered the onion rings, and they were perfectly crisp. We also ordered their desserts (which I did not take a picture of because they were gone in minutes): The Colby (a marshmallow coconut cream pie), the key lime pie, and the chocolate chest pie, and they were all decadent. The key lime pie was perfectly tart, and not overly sweet like some key lime pies can be. The Colby was a real sweet treat, and it was light and fluffy. Our server recommended a drizzle of caramel over the chocolate chest pie and it was absolutely delightful. Our server was so helpful and friendly and informative about the menu! read more

It is unbelievable to have so many things going on at one location. Butcher shop, home-made ice cream, fishing supplies, food cooked-to-order, colorful Banty rooster prancing around, friendly Tabby kitten, hand-made furniture from wood, seasonal fruit and vegetable stand, dining view overlooking woods and outdoor seating. I came here specifically for the cornbread salad. I had to know if it could take the place of Borroum's, as my favorite. It could not. It costs $2.00 more and there is a lot less of it. The presentation is unique as it is served in a tiny iron skillet. They should save that bit of novelty for serving just the cornbread. You have to hope the tables are clean and sanitary as that is where you actually eat the cornbread salad from. That small skillet gives no room for mixing, tossing or general foraging in the dish. Something was constantly plopping out of the skillet onto the table. Overall, the taste is there, but not as appealing as Borroum's. I had an issue with the table and stools. They are hand made, but they are only practical and comfortable for children. I consider myself an average size adult and the stool is not wide enough with no foot support. You have dangling feet adding pressure to the hip and thighs, which just equals pain and discomfort. There were picnic tables and lower benches inside, but they were taken. The ones outside were in the sun on a 90+ degree day.......in the South.....no thank you. To Each Their Own. I plan a return visit to try a burger and ice cream. I know to avoid the stools. Maybe, it will be fall and I will sit outside. The kitten can keep me company. read more
