Had a great experience at Rainbow Cone today. It had a been a couple years since coming and the rainbow cone was just as delicious as I remembered. I had a small size on a waffle cone, which was more than enough for me. Another great part of our visit was the rainbow cones were buy one get one free in celebration of their anniversary. We ate ours on the patio and it was a nice treat.
Service is always good when I visit the store in the EVERGREEN location. I love the 2 mixed sherbet and pistachio can't go wrong. If it's been a while for you it's that time of year GO!!
Stopped in on a cold night for some rainbow cone. Friendly staff and quick. To go only, maybe you can stand and eat inside but the outdoor patio isn't open yet. Been going here since I was a kid and it still tastes the same. Ordered a small rainbow cone for the gf to try. She really liked all the flavors. South side staple
The staff was very accommodating with letting me sample different flavors of ice cream. The restaurant was clean and pleasing to the eye. It also smelled very delicious when I walked into the store. I ordered "The Big Muddy". This flavor was a mixture of dark chocolate ice cream with brownie chunks and caramel. The ice cream was absolutely delicious.
Grandma used to bring me here when I was a little girl. We would stop in after church on Sundays. It was a nice treat. At seven my palate didn't really appreciate all of the creative flavors that came with the 'original' cone. I always opted for the orange sherbet and it was delicious. Being a bit older and a grandma myself, my palate has evolved and I can truly appreciate the creative flavors paired together with the 'original' rainbow cone. I still love the orange sherbet, but I am excited when I finally get to the palmer house. It's more of an old fashioned vanilla with walnuts and cherries. Need I say more? Lol. Although, many shops are opening up in and out of the city, this one will always be a favorite.
Finally made it to the OG Original Rainbow Cone down in Beverly! If you've lived in or around Chicago long enough, you know about this place. It's been around forever, and they're still doing it with surprising quality and efficiency - don't let a line fool you, it moves quickly. I haven't had any of their new flavor combos (and I've only had the original once before at a Wicker Park popup), but the original is what you want. Really great flavor combination with a very impressive chocolate layer. Honestly, the star of the show is the Palmer House, which reminded me of the kind of vanilla w/ chunks of strawberries I remember as a kid back in New Jersey. I'd probably be satisfied with just that and the chocolate, though the whole thing is good. It's not the best ice cream you'll ever have, but it's unique and remains a fun dessert experience. I will note, for myself, that I think I'd prefer a reverse rainbow cone with the orange sherbet on the bottom and the chocolate on top...I wonder if they do that?

I went into Rainbow on 9233 S Western in Chicago today and I was disappointed. I assume this individual in the black shirt working the register was the manager. My daughter asked to taste a flavor to which he replied "no", I then asked for a pint of butter pecan and pistachio ice cream and he replied "we don't do that anymore". Now here is the funny thing, I just purchased this pint a week and a half ago. Food is way too expensive now days not to get what you pay for AND a horrible customer experience. Interesting enough the person filling my order did prepare a pint of butter pecan and pistachio that the manager said they no longer did. See the pic attached. I guess they'll just throw it out tonight Note to Rainbow- in today's market no establishment can afford this type of bad customer service. It is either time for some professional development or a performance assessment. You don't want the first customer interaction to be that of a disgruntled employee or one that simply doesn't care about customer satisfaction. Word of mouth and reviews hold so much weight. My family and I have been patronizing this establishment for years and even considered selecting Rainbow this summer for our family reunion and as an end of the year treat for the CPS school that a family members work for. After today, that is no longer an option. People won't remember what you said but they will remember how you treat them. Please do better!
We'd been curious about the rainbow cone and were excited to come across the food truck while out and about. Naturally, we went with the original so we could get the full experience! With five flavors in a single serving, it was a generous and delicious portion. The slices (instead of scoops) were a unique twist! The flavors were a fun combo - orange sherbet, pistachio, Palmer House, strawberry, and chocolate. Service was efficient and friendly. The truck is very eye catching - bright pink with white dots!
Came in for a scoop of ice cream. Smelled the freshly baked waffle cones and got a double scoop of chocolate in a waffle cone. Young lady was cheerful and the space was very welcoming.
The Original Rainbow Cone is a great family-friendly place. The parking lot is small, but it is easy to get in and enter the spot and order a treat. I only get The Original Rainbow Cone. Baby size cone (less ice cream) is also an option. Service was average, and servers seemed super busy. The customers seemed very happy the day we arrived because it was Father's Day and fathers and kids and grandkids were all smiles. Walls in the place are colorful and bright. Great vibes, tables in the back lot to enjoy your summer treat. They have multiple locations and one close to my neighborhood on the Northside: Skokie. Fantastic and delicious summer dessert. Next time, I'll bring neighborhood kids to enjoy their yummy treats.
Yum! What else is there to say about the delicious ice cream cones. Unusual flavors on the original cone, but there are some regular flavors such as chocolate chip ice cream. Quick service and really cute setting. There are cute tables that are like old-fashioned ice cream parlors.
My girlfriend and I decided to give the original rainbow cone a try! I will say I enjoyed every bit of the cone. The flavors were amazing and the bench's outside and the music playing out of the speakers really made me think of the past. Music was definitely great with the cones we had!
Been here many times!! This was the first ice cream joint I tried when I first moved out here in Chicago. Lovely atmosphere as well as niche decorating in terms of color and brightness. Service and quick and easy. So even if long lines forms, the employees are still quick to serve you. In terms of the actual ice cream itself, so far in my opinion, the best ice cream in Chicago despite other ice cream places I tried here as well after being here for a year. The soft creaminess of the ice cream and their inventive flavors always bring me back. They also have an app for the rewards system so everytime you add your number you're able to earn points to potentially get 5$ off when you reach 1000 points. The Rainbow Cone is a staple in the Chicago area as they are known for their signature "Rainbow Cone" which includes: strawberry, chocolate, Palmer House, Pistachio & orange sherbet! I appreciate them offering both traditional and unique flavors such as "Playdough" (blue moon ice cream with cookie dough pieces), Superman, "The Big Muddy (dark chocolate with brownie pieces) and Palmer House" (New York vanilla with cherries and walnuts). It's been a while since I've eaten there so it was a pleasant surprise to see how extensive their menu a has become. They also offer banana splits, flavored mini donuts, sundaes, ice cream cookie sandwiches, ice cream cakes and beverages. The staff are extremely nice and patient and encourages you to try as many samples as you'd like before ordering which comes in handy. Be prepared to enjoy a creamy, flavorful sweet treat. I encourage anyone that's interested in trying Rainbow Cone to try to catch their happy hour Monday-Friday for $5 scoops! read more

I had seen this when scouring menus and articles for what I must eat when visiting Chicago. I bookmarked it even. I was in Chicago for a week and by day 5, I still hadn't made my way to The Original Rainbow Cone. I was lucky to have a friend that was a local that I convinced to run me over to a location before they closed for the evening. We made our way inside and went to the Rainbow Cone counter. After a few moments, a lady that had been working hard in the back came out front and without any hesitation promptly greeted us and took our order of 2 Rainbow Cones. It was the end of the night and it was my only opportunity to get there, the employees were beyond kind and respectful. Even the employees in the lobby were courteous and jovial. Look. Icecream is Icecream. This was good but the service is the real reason to come back. This review is to the staff. It may have been end of the night and I apologize for showing up 10 minutes before closing, but no one was cross or sour with us. read more

I say be careful what you order. Stick to what you know and you won't be disappointed. Who doesn't love a rainbow cone (on waffle) The line was out the door this Mother's Day. Got a free cone too. One of the new flavors is Dreamsicle. I think I'll try that one next read more

I am usually picky when it comes to Ice Cream, but since we were on vacation I decided to branch out since everyone said we HAD to get the Rainbow Cone. It was one of the best Desserts I have had!! IT WAS DELICIOUS!! I would NEVER pick some of the Ice Cream flavors that are included but they all suit each other so well! I was most nervous about the Pistachio flavor since I don't necessarily enjoy Pistachios, but it was honestly my favorite one! The guy was also super friendly when ordering! He helped us out since we we're not really sure what we we're getting ourselves into! The outside is super cute for pictures too! Would definitely recommend if your visiting!! read more

I came in today to get my birthday sliced creation. I am glad they allowed me to pick one of their new flavors. I've been wanting to try the minty city flavor which is their version of mint chocolate chip. I am appreciative of the manager making it happen, and they even wrapped it really nicely for me to take it to go. They served me in a cone and wrapped everything in foil, which ensure my ice cream would be secure and not leak. Thankfully, it's a short drive for me, and everything is safe and sound. Special shout out to Ozzy for building my cone and triple packing it. I love how the original rainbow cone is getting creative with new flavors, not that I don't like the original. The minty city is delicious, filled with chunks of chocolate chip, amazing mint to chocolate ratio, everything I expected and more. I'm looking forward to coming back and trying their other exotic flavors. They have plenty of free parking on premise and an outdoor patio for those who want to enjoy their treat there. I'd recommend the original rainbow and this location to anyone in the area. read more

I'm not a Chicago native so I didn't know about this item. My husband introduced me to it and it is great! Who would think that combo would work in any universe yet somehow it does. I wound up getting the candy cane shake which was delicious and a quart of the rainbow to go. They also have pint size. Guess it would be to hard to get the mix in a gallon dang it! My first experience was with a truck that came to a local fast food place by us. I got a cone and sat in my car looking at it before I dove in. Now I look to see when it will be in my area as I don't make it to that part of the city often. I get a cone and a quart each time and if I happen to pass another day and they are still there I may stop again! read more

The truth is Rainbow Cone is 90% nostalgic allure and 10% about the actual ice cream. I have countless fond memories stopping by Rainbow Cone on our way home from The Plaza. Some of you may know it as Evergreen Plaza. I couldn't wait for the seemingly endless scoops of ice cream. It felt like a challenge to consume quickly before turning into a melted mess. As I've gotten older I have a better sense of quality. A Southsider born and raised I am, but I'd be lying if I told you this is high quality ice cream. It's comparable to store brand ice cream. Stop in for the experience of a true Chicago classic. ..just temper your expectations. It's still very enjoyable on a hot Summertime Chi day, but it's more about the nostalgia and respecting an OG. read more
This place is famous for their iconic Rainbow cone and I can tell you that it tastes delicious! I was skeptical because I am not one to try too many flavors like this stacked up, but I was curious and I am glad I went for it. We went on a Saturday and, yes the line is long, although it was not out the door when we arrived, it was when we left. However, the employees work very fast and the line moves quickly. 10/10 to staff for promptness and efficiency 10/10 for ice cream flavors There is designated parking behind the shop and they have outdoor seating available in the back as well. Keep in mind that depending on the day/time you go might influence your chances of finding parking and seating. read more

Finally was in the neighborhood and got to visit the famous rainbow cone! What a treat. This place is like a time capsule. It was a busy Saturday with a line out the door, but it still went by relatively quick thanks to the wonderful employees. The concept of the rainbow cone seemed super strange to me (all these flavors together had to be too good to be true right?), but it's been a staple forever, so they must be doing something right. If you aren't familiar, it's a cone consisting of chocolate, strawberry, palmer house, pistachio, and orange sherbert - in that order! Sherbert on top of ice cream just seems bizarre right? But it WORKS! It's kind of like a neopolitan on steroids. The best part was that it wasn't overly sweet for being five scoops of ice cream. The flavors work together and I finally understand the hype. The cone comes in a holder that catches all the dripping ice cream which is inevitable, but the catcher is genius! Especially on a hot and humid summer day. I was underwhelmed with the actual cone, but will definitely be back for the ice cream :) read more

This is a MUST if you are in the area! On hot days, expect a line out the door. Parking is limited in the back of the place but street parking is also available as well. If you are going to take a photo for social media, make sure you either get a size small or a large. The baby size one won't look good in photos =P And trust me, this rainbow cone is addicting and you'll definitely want more! The bottom layer is chocolate, then strawberry, Palmer House ( New York vanilla with cherries and walnut), pistachio and orange sherbet on the very top. My favorite flavor is the pistachio and orange sherbet! I love how every flavor goes well with each other. It has the right amount of sweetness that each bite of ice cream isn't overpowering one another. I have been here twice already and the consistency has always been the same. This is such a great summer treat for kids and adults! read more
The rainbow cone is a must try. I had the original rainbow cone with waffle cone. You can also opt for it in a cup if desired. The flavors are some of the best I tasted. I like pistachio and chocolate flavor. The staff was friendly and ready to address any questions. The cone itself the rainbow cone is a Great cone a little on the expensive side, but very good. They need a little better job with the drive-through for an ice cream joint. It takes a little too long, but otherwise I recommend the original rainbow cone. read more
The Original Rainbow Cone is definitely a fantastic idea (doesn't even matter what the question is, as all signs point to yes... come here). My husband, our little girl dog and I came to this location (which I am told is the original location as well) to meet our friends, who are locals, and their dog. My friend highly recommended meeting here because it was just perfect for a very warm summer day, is dog friendly and thought I would like to get some cute photos with the ice cream here (she knows me well). We came around 7:30 pm and there were a few parking spots in their lot. While my friend and I waited outside on one of the benches (please note that there is tables outside and there is also seating inside), our husbands went inside and waited in line to order. My husband got: Large Rainbow Cone, $6.25 + Waffle Cone, $1.59 prior to tax- Wow is all I can say. I am actually quite surprised how many flavors of ice cream is on this cone and also surprised how it all stays on top of the waffle cone my husband bought. The flavors of the rainbow here are: orange sherbet, pistachio, palmer house (which I think taste like vanilla), strawberry, chocolate. There is a small little drip tray under this frozen behemoth artistry. Honestly with the way it is stacked, its hard to taste each individual flavor. But I still enjoyed it. I tasted mostly the orange sherbet since it was on top and looks like you are given the most of that flavor and not nearly as much as the strawberry. I think the large size may be too big and think a small size would have been better but my husband thought this would be best for the 3 of us to share (please note that chocolate is a no- no for dogs). ------------------------------- (Total= $8.73 after tax) I had no idea that Rainbow cone is one of those typical Chicagoan foods (besides deep dish pizza and a Chicago dog for example). I have visited Chicago a few times before this visit and never knew. Overall, we had a great visit with our friends and enjoyed our ice cream (although the drip tray didn't catch all the drips but my husband was just too busy talking to keep on eating the ice cream, lol). I would come back here again the next time I visit Chicago. read more
