Stuffed salmon with quinoa and veggies
Lesley P.

My friends and I are spending a few days in Mars Hill and stumbled across The Original Papa Nick's and decided to give it a try, and I am so glad we did. We went on a Friday night and the indoor dining was considerably busy, but we only had to wait about 5-10 minutes before being seated. The inside of Papa Nick's is such a cute, cozy place and our server Becky was amazing. The food was delicious! We ordered their specials of stuffed salmon and chicken and cheese manicotti, and we devoured everything. The peanut butter now was delicious as well. I will definitely be recommending The Original Papa Nick's to anyone that I know is visiting the area!

Drove to Mars Hill from Asheville beautiful drive and the restaurant is a straight shot and easy to find. I have eaten several times at Papa Nick's's takeout (which is also delicious) but the restaurant is absolutely lovely. Very simple menu, but at dinner time it's packed, even midweek. The waitresses are so kind they explain everything and discussed the specials and special desserts at length with me. So choose carefully. It was my birthday and I enjoyed a fabulous Italian meal. They allowed me to switch up what I wanted and my goodness was it delicious. If you go there for the garlic knots alone you will feel like a winner they are spectacular. So good you'll want to take some home and they're so inexpensive. They freeze beautifully and last for ages. I know I took them home lol !! After dinner if you have time just walk around the campus it's literally around the corner it's lovely, green and peaceful. Please try it out you won't be disappointed and let me know if you agree? And thanks for reading this. I gave it four stars because it has a limited menu and it's fairly far out in Mars Hill but absolutely delicious and FUN and worth the drive.

The takeout window was the only thing open. We ordered two small pies. One Greek gluten free and one Special. Crust was amazing on both.

Open open open. The Mad Co. Brew House is OPEN!…read more I was passing through here in October 2025 as I am making my way through all 100 of North Carolina's county courthouses. The Madison County Courthouse is temporarily closed due to the water damage but the structure is still standing. On my way back to where I parked, I spotted this place and stopped in. I bought a beer - not much in the way of support, but I am back on keto and not eating pizza no matter how awesome it smells/looks - and opted to write this review immediately. As I'm typing, another customer asked the beertender about the storm. He pointed to the piece of black tape marking high water line on the wall. It's about NINE FEET off the ground. I included a picture. The leaves up here are just about starting to change. If you're thinking of leaf peeping and heading through the North Carolina mountains, don't miss out on Mad Co. Brew House. Firstly, their Pilsner is excellent. Second, they need the support. [Review 1124 of 2025 - 4371 in North Carolina - 24677 overall]

We fell in love with the town of Marshall before Hurricane Helene, and that love hasn't…read morechanged--but the town certainly feels different now. The impact of Helene was profound, and it's hard not to feel the weight of that change. Given Marshall's long and rich history, we doubt anyone could have anticipated something so devastating. We believe this moment calls for reflection--gratitude for what we still have, and commitment to preserving the character and history of this special place for future generations. The town is slowly recovering, and we were thankful to be able to visit. Some businesses and buildings are clearly still struggling, while others appear nearly back to normal. While in town, we stopped for a bite at Mad Co. Brew House. Parking was easy and convenient on the street, and the open-air concept was inviting. Because of the heat, we opted to sit inside. Upon entering, the bar is immediately to the right--that's where you grab a menu and place your order. We picked up laminated menus, found a large table, and returned to the bar to order once we'd made our selections. After paying, we were given a vibrating coaster to alert us when our food was ready for pickup at the kitchen window. It's worth noting that tipping was prompted at the point of sale. We don't mind tipping--20% or more is typical for us--but it was frustrating to realize that, in this case, there was virtually no service. We placed our own orders, grabbed our own utensils, water, and napkins, and picked up our food when the pager buzzed. Additionally, multiple signs reminded customers to bus their own tables after dining. No one ever checked on us, and we struggled to find a clean table when we arrived. During our visit, we saw several employees either behind the bar or in the open concept kitchen, but none seemed to be sanitizing or tidying up, despite it not being particularly busy. We recognize that the community has endured a lot since the flooding, and our visit was, in part, a way to support local businesses. Still, basic service standards matter--and without improvement, we worry that some visitors may not return. That said, the food itself was excellent--easily a five-star experience. The setting, the charm of the location, and the overall potential of the place are solid. With a little more attention to cleanliness and service, this could be a true gem. For now, we're giving it three stars, hoping it was just an off night--and wishing the best for everyone continuing to rebuild in this resilient town.

The sister restaurant to Winston-Salem's acclaimed Mission Pizza Napoletana, Mission Pizza…read moreAsheville (aka Mission Pizza Romana) is decidedly not your typical neighborhood slice shop. The Roman squares are made of a thick dough that looks like focaccia but is both lighter and crispier. They come in single 5" by 7" rectangles (spuntino, $8-$10), 5" by 13" pies (mezzo, $15-$19), or 9" x 13" party size portions (tutto, $30-$38). While you can build your own custom pizza, the default options include a Calabrian with pepper jam, a funghi & charred tomato, a sfincione with breadcrumb topping, a patate with potato cream, and a rotating special. A few dips, an arugula salad, cauliflower cacio pepe, and meatballs are also available. Wanting a few slices to commemorate Pi Day, my wife and I shared a Calabrian, a funghi & charred tomato, and a daily special. Ordering was easy, and Terra Nova's "green industrial" vibe (check out that moss wall) made for interesting ambiance. Our pizza was not cheap, but it was very satisfying, and Mission uses high-quality ingredients. The Calabrian offered a good combination of sweet and spicy while the funghi & charred tomato delivered creamy (ricotta) and smoky. The crust was done perfectly: crisp without being overly charred. There are many places in Asheville where you can grab a pizza and a beer, but none can offer you the same experience that Mission does. Unless you're a New York-style pizza purist, you owe it to yourself to give Mission a try.

I like the style of pizza and they have some interesting specialty pizzas. I just didn't love how the pizza we had only had a very small amount of cheese. It was also super messy, the pizza had breadcrumbs on top, which were good, but they went everywhere all over the table. We also tried the meatballs, which were good but nothing special. I am all about being eco friendly but the taste of the wooden fork ruined the taste of the meatball (not a fan of the popsicle stick type flavor when eating).
