    "Extra toasted bagel"
    Katlyn C.

I have been going here for years and I love the coffee and quality ingredients that they use. I do think they need to replace their toaster oven though because I always order my bagel extra toasted and it always comes out as raw bread, still not toasted at all, and then I have to re-toast it at home instead of eating it on the go, which was what I was hoping for.

Chocolate croissant. Spongey, heavy, greasy, bland.

I really hesitate reviewing something so low from a small, local, business but I wanted to share my thoughts in case perhaps this was a fluke? First off, the location was great. The place itself is adorable and just a quick turn off of the freeway. I ordered a chocolate croissant from Plume & Brew (the croissant was made by The Organic Grail). The service was fast & friendly; they offered to warm up the pastry which I accepted. Once receiving my croissant, I took a little bite. My first thought was that the flavor was bland; it tasted like there was no salt. Maybe it was just a weird piece? So I waited until I got home to try the rest. Once home, I took a bite from the middle of the pastry and noticed that the texture was completely off. There were no flaky layers... it felt spongey, heavy, greasy, and bland. The only saving grace was the chocolate but even with that I, sadly, threw away the rest. I would like to try more pastry's from this place out of curiosity (maybe the scones are better?) but I don't think I'll ever order a croissant again. The two stars are for the location & service. Unfortunately, it was the product itself that lacked appeal. I hope this is helpful!

I did enjoy my Mexican mocha but it did seem a bit watered down from the moment I received it.

I was deeply disappointed after 15 years of breakfasts, every celebration ever strawberry cakes, the best fruit tarts & a delicious selection of pastries & treats, the ownership, wait staff, ingredients, and presentation has changed. So far my experience has been, not for the better. The previous owner still has a store front in Carlsbad, it's a bit of a drive but the effort will be worth while.

Still, not what it used to be…read more We decided to attempt this once again after avoidance since our miserable last try. New owners? New Chef? This time a Sunday morning around 9:30am, just before the church crowd. Place seemed unusually empty; maybe three customers, some others just getting some pastries in a bag to go. The parking lot was empty as well. Perhaps it gets much busier in another hour. We ordered an omelet with house potatoes, since they 'didn't have' hash browns that were on the menu. We also shared a two-stack of pancakes. Food tasted terrific. My wife keeps talking about those pancakes. The portions were acceptable, as the wife and I shared one plate, a stack of pancakes and a less than truly good chocolate-almond croissant. I do consider the cleanliness and order of the establishment a factor of my experience. Basic stuff, like cleaning the hot sauce bottle caps. Sheesh! Also, why is there a leaf blower in the dining room? The leaf blower stayed right there the entire time we were visiting. I wish I could say this was a great experience, but that experience is still elusive after all these years. CritDicks
