There are a couple of things which stop The Old Brown Jug from being my local... firstly, the…read morelocation... it's not local to me which doesn't help as it means I have to drive there (a great opportunity to mention the ample parking outside). Secondly, the price. The Old Brown Jug is a bit more expensive than you're average pub. I view it as a place I go to as a treat or as a one off rather than a regular place otherwise you would just be skint all the time. One thing which does take me there is the great selection of drinks on offer. The pub has a number of continental beers such as my favourite Erdinger and also has a range of real ales and ciders. Thursday night is cheap cider night so a good chance to get along and test out some new brews!! The pub itself is very spacious with rustic wooden floors and a homely feel. The garden out the back is huge with plenty of seating and is covered by parasols and heaters meaning you can stay relatively dry if the weather takes a turn for the worse. A top pub in the Stoke area and well worth checking out.

Small, quaint pub near the end of Newcastle City Centre so can be easily missed at times. One quite interesting attraction to the Jug is all the live music/salsa/acoustic nights they host. Student friendly, worth a visit or two.

It wants closing down...do not eat here, my partner & I said we will never call again!

We started with the soup of the day - carrot, sweet potato and red pepper - and found a great consistency with a hint of spice. It was served with a warm and crispy roll. Delicious! There is a nice selection of real ales available which paired nicely with our sandwich selections. I firmly believe that heaven is a place where Stilton cheese is plentiful. I enjoyed mine on the nutty brown bread. I tucked bits of the side salad inside for a nice added crunch. My companion had a very nice tuna sandwich that featured no mayonnaise so as to highlight the flavor of the fish and leave more calories available for beer :) Overall I'd say it has a wonderful pub feeling but with food that goes beyond the typical without leaving heritage behind.
