Located in historic Warrenton, The Open Book is a spacious bookstore that sells all kinds of books from novels to self-help books. Although the travel section is tiny, the kids section in the back is large! They also sell journals, cards, etc.

Not only do I love shopping here, but for over the many months I've had the privilege of doing so, I've loved working here. I've particularly loved the honor of working alongside the owner, Cammie, learning to listen, as she does, to what people love, the stories they tell about their lives or the books they enjoy. Every other person I get to work alongside with the purpose of bringing the joy of reading to Warrenton, carries with them their own unique warmth--a specific kind of love for the pages we find ourselves surrounded by. The curated and eclectic selection we hold in our small shop holds larger than life stories for both minds still forming and those already much in-formed. The Open Book is a safe place for everyone, to challenge what they thought they knew, to fall in love with another's story or write a tale all their own. This place is nothing short of the magical fairy tale world every reader knows bookshops to be If we don't have it, we'll order it. If you're not nearby, we'll ship it. If you don't know what book to gift a friend, we've got ideas and gift cards for you. Fair prices, many genres, zero judgement. Open Mic nights every month, multiple book clubs to join, a writers community that rivals any other community I've been a part of, all for the purpose of inspiring and serving our beloved city So much love for and to be found in the Open Book!

HUGE used book store and well worth the drive!…read more Their trade in process was really straightforward - when you walk in there's a trade in counter where they ask you to put your books into bins. I had one large bag that I sorted between two bins, one for books and the other for single issue comics and DVDs/non-books. About 45 minutes later I got a text that my trade-in was ready. I came back to the same counter after browsing the store and they offered me in-store credit or a lower amount in cash. They also returned the items they didn't want and I had the option to take them with me or leave them as a donation. I think it was a fair deal for what I donated, and I opted for the in-store credit. The store has a great mix of used books, dvds, comics, vinyl, and more that's pretty well organized. I will say there's a fair amount of duplicates of certain titles and it was interesting that some were priced higher than others - so check all the labels! In general the prices were reasonable with a few exceptions - I saw a really worn copy of a new hardback that they were selling for the list price ($35!) even though it had been out long enough that other books sellers were discounting it already. But then I also got a box set of dvds for $10 and a bunch of kids books for $0.50-2.00. It was easy to spend that in-store credit!

I have been shopping at this store for years now, unfortunately todays trip will be my last. Mckays…read morehas always had inaccurate pricing, but today they were so bad that I almost thought I was dreaming. Tell me why I saw Star Wars the Clone Wars: Lightsaber Duels for $18... Currently this game goes for $3.67 on pricecharting, heck when it game out in 2008 its peak was only a measly $5. Multiple gbc/gba shovelware games all overmarket, by around 10 dollars as well. In general the amount of 3-5 dollar games that they are trying to pass off as 15 - 20 dollar games is dis gracefully disgusting. The point of traveling to these stores are to get the good deals. All of the inventory they have are traded in for or donated so it makes NO sense! It seems that the employees make guesses when it comes to prices, that or they are being told to overprice by upper management. By the gaming section there was a sign that claimed that all of the consoles and equipment is tested beforehand by "gamers with over 30 years of experience" whatever that means. I got an Xbox One Kinect from them back in December, and worked normally. A couple days later I wanted to try using its mic functionality, was not functioning. So it was never fully tested by "gamers with over 30 years of experience" lol. The worst part is that they give you a 3 day warranty... it's not like people have kids, jobs, or other commitments I guess. The media (dvds and blu rays) were also overpriced per usual. Usually only by 5-10 bucks. My main discrepancy today was that I saw multiple dvds and blu rays with dirt and filth smattered on the covers. Your telling me that they have the audacity to up charge, and still refuse to even spend 10 seconds wiping the cover with a lysol wipe? Is it that hard to do? Disgusting! I can't speak on their book pricing as I am not well versed but pretty much everything else is overpriced in this store. It really sucks because these type of stores are supposed to be for lower income families who can't buy new. And instead is being treated like a greedy gaming convention booth. I genuinely feel bad for kids nowadays who want to start growing a small gaming collection post pandemic. With greedy "thrift" stores like this, even the shovel ware games are off-limits.
