I fell down a flight of stairs admiring the design of the lobby and it's still five stars! An outstanding comfortable, contemporary property that oozes Swiss design, style and more importantly service. Warm wood tones intermixed with natural stone, LED lit frosted glass edge hallways, glass elevators and stairs accented with glass, comfortable common spaces with charming fireplaces, and thanks to being perched atop a rocky outcrop, amazing views overlooking the town stretching up to the Matterhorn. Service begins at the time of booking. Confirmation emails asking of special request, restaurant reservations at its Michelin one star eatery, and scheduling transportation to the property (Zermatt is a car free zone - only electric taxis are allowed). On arrival, the hotel's private taxi retrieves you. All luggage is handled leaving you to check in and enjoy a welcome drink. In the room, bottled water, welcome fruit and sweets plus a decanter of bourbon await. (You're here to relax right? What's a few drinks). The rooms themselves are large, very well designed incorporating the natural beauty outside while inside, filled with warm wood surfaces and lighting. Excellent finishes and impeccably clean. --Linens and robes - extremely plush. --Shampoo, body wash, lotions - Aesop. --Bed and bedding - extremely comfortable pillows but very firm mattresses. --Power - Easily accessible throughout the room. Other amenities include: -- Michelin one star restaurant (The Restaurant at the Omnia) on the property. -- Turn down service with Swiss chocolates -- High speed WiFi -- Buffet breakfast (included) -- Transport to and from the station. Outstanding service throughout. Very fluent English spoken. Our high expectations were more than met at Omnia! A great attention to service and comfort, and the terrific (& very friendly) staff went beyond in making this a very special dinner for us. It was also Valentine's. We opted for a la carte, though went with all of the Sommelier's suggestions (Kistler & Chambolle-Musigny). We started with the caviar, which was extremely innovative: instead of chopped egg, we got an egg-white crisp; and while we were a bit wary of the 'fermented garlic', the little beads were so delicate & subtle & paired very well with it! Divine! I had the veal cheeks with sweetbreads, which was exquisite: the rich braised cheeks, with the tender & flavorful sweetbreads, all brought together by a light but deep gravy. Amazing! Sweetie had the veal schnitzel, which from a presentation perspective looked quite plain, was really, really good. Her potatoes were amazing and the best she's ever had, and as a Swede she knows potatoes... Dessert was a rich blowout of chocolate, with the little blue-chocolate ice cream balls (really) filled with unctuous chocolate, along with other presentations of chocolate sprinkled with crumb...was just GTFO. My review is limited to dinner at the restaurant one night during a late winter trip to Zermatt. We wanted to try something different and perhaps more contemporary than the traditional Swiss cuisine that we have really been enjoying. The atmosphere was quite nice with a live fire and a pretty small seating area. For the ratio of guests to servers (I would guess under 25 people in the restaurant), we were expecting attentive service. That was not the case. The food was very good. Lots of foams and molecular gastronomy that was maybe trying a bit too hard. Our pasta with freshly shaved black perigord truffles was great - can't go wrong there - and the octopus starter was excellent. We could have done without the average amuse bouches but the bread with 4 types of butter was really outstanding. The reason for my 3, which is really a 2.5 star review, relates to service. This seems to be a continued pattern while eating at fine dining establishments in Switzerland with a group of three women. When the staff realized we weren't ordering the 6-course tasting menu with 300 franc bottles of wine, we were essentially ignored. We noticed a similar pattern with an elderly couple nearby our table, also ordering a la carte and wine by the glass. Our meal was still easily close to 400 USD, but we left feeling like peasants. We have no problem spending money for quality food and service, but we felt ignored and disappointed. Save your money and patience and eat somewhere with a more local feel. read more

During our recent trip to Switzerland, we ended up spending the most time in Zermatt (5 nights), and we wanted to end up at a place that was going to pamper us a bit after the long hikes we had planned in the area. As such, we ended up staying at the Omnia, which, while admittedly on the pricier side, seemed to have a boutique, cozy feel to it that would keep you close to the heart of Zermatt. The service here is impeccable - whether it is picking you up with their cute little electric car at the train station (make sure to call ahead - although if you don't have much luggage, walking there takes a little over 10 minutes) or giving you drinks on the house and a tour around the hotel when you first arrive, it's clear that making sure visitors feel like they are being pampered is paramount. The folks at the front desk are friendly and helpful, and the hotel staff that are floating around - whether it's ensuring you have towels at the pool, bringing out a drink on the terrace, or pouring a shot from one of the innumerable whiskey bottles in the library - are quick and eager to please. As for the facilities themselves - you'll be struck most by the cave when you enter - it's kind of like your own little Batcave while you are staying here, and it's cool that the electric car can drive all the way in. The elevator takes you up to the lobby level, where you have sofas in the main lounge area and the 'library' on the other side of a fireplace where people can just chat, relax and do whatever they like to their heart's content. The terrace outside can be for ordering food; it's also where welcome drinks are served, and it's there where, at least at the hotel, you will get your first striking views of the Matterhorn. There are a handful of lower floors beneath the lobby, where you can find a pool with an outdoor hot tub (the hot tub is definitely a winner, especially on brisk days); a gym that is a bit lacking for equipment but covers the very basics; and the restaurant in the bottom (which deserves a separate review) that provides the included breakfast for hotel guests, as well as being open for dinner for anyone. The restaurant has plenty of space, and while it's not huge, it never felt packed while we were there - a bit puzzling since given the summer 'offseason', I felt it was clearly the best restaurant I ate at while in Zermatt. Upstairs, you have the 30 rooms total - 4 suites and 26 rooms, all labeled by alphabet letter - spread across a number of staggered floors. The elevator is unique in this respect in that it has doors on almost every side to accommodate the singular layout of the hotel, along with the many 'half'-floors. We got lucky in that our request for a deluxe double landed us in Room X, which is the only room in the Omnia that is on its own floor. It's also one of the double deluxe rooms with a view facing the Matterhorn, making it one of the best views one could have at any hotel across the world. The room itself has modern, sleek finishes, with the room comprised of lots of light-colored wood - giving it the feel of a cosmopolitan lodge. Bottled water was provided daily (although the tap is potable here - and it's very good), but the highlight was the complimentary bourbon provided - and refilled daily, no less. I'm not really a drinker of straight liquor, but I used to drinking plenty of bourbon neat while I was here. The bathroom had slate floors and modern finishes, as well as Aesop bathroom amenities that my wife and I were both fans of. Being on a higher floor, our shower also had a skylight - a nice touch. The only downside - and it's enough where I would knock half a star off if that's how the rating system worked - was the bedding. The mattress looks fine, and plenty of pillows and blankets are provided...but the mattress is the hardest thing outside of the ground that I have ever slept on. It's memory foam that was either brand-new or had absolutely zero give...but there were no nights where I slept a solid 7-8+ hours without waking up and feeling horribly uncomfortable at some point. It sounds like a temporary issue, though, as when I did email the hotel manager after leaving (they asked for feedback), they mentioned that this was not a new complaint, and that they were going to replace them with box-spring mattresses soon (i.e. within the coming year). So for anyone going there in the immediate future...just be aware of that, and perhaps request some extra blankets (or anything that can provide more cushion/padding). Even if you like firm mattresses, this will probably startle you a bit. In all, though, you would be hard-pressed to find a better spot to stay in Zermatt. The Omnia is luxurious not only in facilities but in all manners of service. Whether in the summer or winter (although I understand winter is a bit more pricey), this is a lovely place to make your home while in town. read more

We ate at the Omnia for dinner on 11/23/2016. I had high expectations for coming in as they have a Michelin star. We first dropped by to check out the menu and decided to make a reservation for later in the evening. I did the 3 course menu and my significant other other ordered the lobster. We were blown away by the amazing service and off the chart delicious food. Zermatt has tons of great food by I highly recommended coming to the Omnia if you are a foodie. Prices are very reasonable for Switzerland and a a Michelin starred restaurant. My recommendation is is get the multi course meal and have an awesome meal. This place should get 10 stars! Great rooms, great service! Our stay with Omnia began with them picking us up from the train station in their electric car. The driver was so nice and showed us a bit around town. We pulled into the cave, where we took the elevator up to the main floor. We were greeted with champagne and smiling faces. Our room was amazing! It was a suit and the balcony overlooked the Matterhorn. Day one of waking up in Zermatt, our first sight was the Matterhorn from our bed. So romantic and breathtaking. Their pool is honestly one of a kind. It is part indoor and part outdoor, with views of the Matterhorn. The pool water was a bit cold for me, but I am from Florida where I am use to the water being very warm (my husband loved the water and said he thought the water temperature was fine). The hot tub was also nice. The Omnia has water bottles all around for guest to use while in the pool, hot tub, or one of their many saunas. The breakfast was delicious. It came with the Swiss standard breakfast, different breads and meats, but the Omnia goes beyond. They also had complimentary egg dishes (eggs benedict, ect...), pancakes, among other delights. They also had complimentary champagne or mimosa. Again, the service for breakfast was top notch! We got massages during our stay too. The front desk helped to book it for us. Our room was kept tidy and neat. They turned down our bed and of course made it. We also got delicious chocolates on our night stand. We checked out the bar and had some drinks there. We opted for their mixed drinks, which took some time to make, but it was SO worth it. This trip was part of our honeymoon and the Omnia helped to make it romantic and memorable. The hotel might be expensive, but it is not money wasted. It was all worth it. I would stay at the Omnia again, and I hope I get the chance. read more

This hotel/restaurant sits back off of the Main Street high up on the side of the mountain. It affords you a grand view of the city and mountains. You can sit and look right at the Matterhorn. The service is 1st class, and the food is amazing. The prices, well, the view, food and service is amazing! Definitely would go back.
