Spacious, impressive room - with a bathtub in the middle
My wife and I were recently in Zermatt with a tour group. Of course, we needed a place to stay while we were going to see the Matterhorn. When our group descended on the Alpenhof, the lobby was crowded but everyone got to their rooms eventually. The Front Desk staff was gracious and accommodating.
The hotel is conveniently located within a short walking distance of the main street which includes some wonderful restaurants as well as shopping - including the Lindt store.
Well, when we walked into our room, we were impressed. Somehow, we had been assigned to a corner room with a spacious bathroom - the standalone bath tub was right out in the middle of the room, yes, bathroom and bedroom; then I saw a wraparound shower curtain. This was new for us. Thankfully the WC was in its own secluded room with the shower.
Alas, but I digress. The room itself was quite sizable; we knew some European hotel rooms can be somewhat on the small size. Whatever the reason, we were grateful for the larger room we received. Oh, and it also had a wraparound. We walked out on the balcony and saw a terrific view overlooking the river running through the town with the mountain chalets off in the distance. I can truthfully say that the room we stayed in was quite nice.
The shower was another unexpected enhancement to our room. Ohhhh, how relaxing to have a powerful wall/handheld shower-head. It got better. It also had 6 smaller jets that can provide a relaxing message to your upper back, lower back and the back of your legs. - or one of several combinations. Did I mention how relaxing it was? Oh, you guessed that already.
In addition to the room, most people want to know about the breakfast. Well, as were the other hotels at which we've stayed on our tour, the breakfast was quite good. I've noticed that the choices for breakfast in Europe are not only better than in the States, but also healthier. If you do stay at the Hotel Alpenhof, you will likely be as pleased with the breakfast as you are with the room. Check them out.
