FTR, baby!!! The…read moreValentine Theatre is a staple in downtown Toledo. The ambiance exudes history and culture - the massive mural in the entrance depicts theatre performers from 1895 to 1920. It's painted by Paul Geiger, a Toledo local and someone my parents know. :) Unfortunately, the theatre was under renovation for much of my childhood and I didn't attend many performances here, but nonetheless, this place rocks! I recently got to return for a friend's wedding and it was the perfect venue for it. They opened up the theatre for guests to walk around and check it out and the reception was held in the mural room. Very nice beautiful bar with quality comfy furniture, an outdoor patio and and upstairs balcony area. Most of the staff are friendly and service is good. Sunday and Mondays are mostly live rnb or jazz with local musicians and free entry. Other days are live rock, metal, or pop bands with entry fee. Not open everyday so check their FB page or website. Food trucks from time to time. No food kitchen, just drinks. Halfway decent beer cans and bottles. The drafts have not worked since they opened and that's been a few years now. Prices about $6-10 for drinks. Kind of cheap wine but full bar available. Plenty of free parking in the front and back. Toledo needs more of this. I have met a few of the managers and they are receptive to suggestions. Come out and support.

There is also an entire section dedicated to live performances. I visited for the Pop Evil concert and was floored by all of the talent they had lined up before the main event. The drinks are good and the service we received from Kelly (loved her Mohawk) was spot on. They seem to maintain a great line up of live music from the area as well as bands from out state and country. The performance venue is standing room only with a few exceptions near the bar. It feels intimate but it is big enough that you do not feel crowded. The reason I am giving them 4 and not 5 stars is for making us wait in 0 degree weather with a hella cold wind cutting at us as they had to process everyone in. It was very inconsiderate to keep people standing in the elements while one or two guys checked Id's and tickets. Maybe this seems like no big deal but seriously it was f*&^$ing cold out people! My buck 25 ass is not use to it and I dare say even the locals had a difficult time handling the wait and check in process. The place also looked a tad tired and dare I say dingy. I'm not sure I would feel comfortable eating here. That being said I did NOT see their kitchen so this can be an over reach on my part but generally speaking if things are not well maintained up front they are not well maintained in the back. However, if with the clique style douche metal they play there, the biggest threat is the head of security [Hispanic, late 40's, heavy set, short black hair] that is always impersonating a cop. My friend was allowed to leave with two highly intoxicated people while the supposed impersonator cop that was head of security told me to shove off or he'd have me arrested. Right after I asked to see this guy's bad, asked for his name and badge number he only said 242 [Gee, give the name of a band right don't you]. The head of security left in a late model orange colored pickup truck. moments later after he left, actual police arrived claiming that I had a gun in the night club. The entire building was closed at the time when the actual police arrived. The one of the DJ's happened to be standing outside next to when the police arrived and vouched for me. What a total joke of an encounter. Do not go here. You couldn't pay me money to even perform at this place as DJ or music project. Oh, and after talking with both Toledo police and the police in my own neighborhood, it turned out the head of security mentioned in this review is not a cop. This head of security should be careful of the person who is sober and is not afraid of some wanna-be.

Drink and snack prices are what you'd expect but the prices for any decent seats are up there. Parking is free. Which lets be honest is a huge plus these days! They have a new bar in the hall next door. I didnt go in so I can not comment on it. There are a ton of staff . I think they must have a minimum age of 90 to work there. They just kind of stand around and stare at you when they aren't directing. It is unnerving. The most disappointing thing is the sound quality. Its pretty awful. If you are seeing a play or musical there will most likely be times you have no idea whats being said. I dont mind seeing shows here but it could definitely be better. 3.5 stars

If you're drinking, they have plenty of options. If you're not, they have fewer, but still plenty of, options. The food? Well, outside of special events (like pizzapalooza, or food trucks with the craft beer fest), the food is what you'd get at a neighborhood swimming pool. Never great, but never horrible. PRO TIP: if you're attending an event here, and you're able to bring a crew, make sure that you rent a table. It's worth the dough. There are plenty of spots to park but if you want to get prime parking definitely get to your event early! We came for Pizza Palooza where I was working a booth. The line was out the door a long ways, I'd say for as many events as there are here I would expect a safer method of getting people in the door as there were cars trying to get in a out. Which with kids and people walking it just seems like this could be improved as it was very congested by the gates. The venue itself is wide open and plenty of stuff to do for kids and parents. It was very nicely set up with good bands playing all night. One more thing I would improve is the bathrooms, they were decent but I feel like as much money as they get the bathrooms would be cleaner. Everything was well stocked though.
