The Nineteenth Hole is truly a Hole....in the wall. I was with a friend killing some time before she got a couple piercings done at the place across the street. There were 4 other people ahead of her, so to fill the wait, why not have a few drinks. Nineteenth Hole was across the street, so we wandered over. Truly it is misleading from the outside - the word "Liquor" reads as the largest and most lit up part of the half burnt-out neon sign. There are only a couple tiny windows, the rest of the front is a wooden door that doesn't match anything (perhaps a fast and easy replacement for something that happened to the original door?). We thought it was either just a liquor store, or perhaps not even open at all. But trying our luck, we opened the door to find a dark, dank bar filled with about 8-9 other patrons. There are booths, but all sat at the bar - I would bet all were regulars, Toledo townies throwing a few back after a day of work.
Mixed drinks are served in small glasses, but the pours are generous, and the price cannot be beat. Get ready for this....$4.50 for BOTH of our drinks (a vodka/oj and rum/diet). Unreal! The bartender, an older man, treated us like we were regulars when we had never step foot in this place. I saw him throwing a couple frozen personal pizzas into a dirty warming oven, so apparently food is available - albeit limited and low quality.
I liked it. Can't beat the prices with a stick. Friendly, full of characters, and exactly what we needed to kill an hour. read more
