Review: Holiday Inn Express Conveniently located near to…read moreBristol Parkway Station, MoD Abbey Wood, UWE and Filton Retail Park. Guests can expect to find superior facilities for what is essentially a budget-range hotel. The car park was ample, conveniently close to the hotel, and free. The reception staff throughout my stay were attentive and welcoming, without being contrived or strained. During check-in all necessary information was explained clearly and I was presented with several dining options. Bar snacks and pizza are available in the hotel and the nearby Filton Retail Park has numerous dining establishments (in addition to a pub next door to the hotel). At the time of my visit a promotion was available which entitled hotel guests to a 20% discount in the nearby Frankie & Benny's restaurant. A breakfast buffet was included in the rate and featured varied options to cater for most tastes. Continental and Full English items were available, in addition to various juices and hot beverages. The bar area in which breakfast was served benefitted from several large televisions showing the BBC News Channel and as I was travelling alone I took particularly comfort knowing there was something with which to keep myself occupied while dining. The bedroom was extremely clean and tidy, featuring contemporary furnishings with almost everything required for a short trip. A television with a DVD player would have been advantageous, but its absence is understandable considering the type of hotel. Wi-Fi was also included in the rate and although it could be intermittently slow it was highly appreciated. An option was available to upgrade the speed of Wi-Fi. A kettle was on a shelf tucked under the television with a range of tea and coffee options. The television was modern, large and featured all of the usual Freeview channels in addition to guest services. The bathroom, although small, was not cramped. Like the rest of the room, the bathroom was sparklingly clean and tidy. The double bed, although possibly a little cramped for two, was perfect for the lone traveller. The choice of both foam and feather pillows was convenient and the soft duvet was just the right tog for December temperatures. Throughout my visit the hotel was peaceful and quiet, and due to the comfortable environment I was completely satisfied with my quality of sleep. Air conditioning and heating was available and easily managed by the in-room controls, although I didn't leave it running for too long as it had a tendency to rattle. The sofa bed was a pleasing addition to this room and although I did not use it as a bed I can confirm the sofa part was comfortable and spacious. Of this particular type of hotel, this is the best I have had the pleasure of visiting. Due to the low price of my stay and the overall high quality of the facilities I would definitely stay again if necessary.

I love this small, family owned hotel. From the moment we arrived, walking up the front path, Tim…read moreheld the door open for us as we were dragging our 'trolley bags' behind. That was just the beginning of excellent, friendly service. Although I must admit, we are not 'fussy' travelers, all the small details of this eight room hotel made us very happy. I had pre-paid our room including a full breakfast. You can also purchase breakfast, continental for just under £5 or continental plus a hot option (full) for just under £10 (at the time of this review of course). Tim gave us info on the hotel, a map of town, information on how to get around and where attractions are placed. He is very friendly and easy to speak with. As a small hotel, the reception desk is not manned around the clock and a door key of given along with a room key. We arrived just before reception closed. If you know you will arrive after hours, the hotel will send you a code to access the door and your keys will be left at reception. The hotel offers tea and coffee in the afternoon in the breakfast room. Each guest room has a 'hot pot' and a selection of teas and instant coffees with more in the breakfast room if you need to restock. There are also a variety of free biscuits (the shortbread is wonderful) along with snacks to purchase through the honor bar. The honor bar also includes sodas, juices, beer and wine in two sizes (full size or single serve). Just keep track of what you take and tell reception at check-out. You'll find check lists on the sideboard to keep track. The staff seat you for breakfast. A pot of coffee and/or tea is brought to your table as requested, along with a basket of toast, or if you prefer, english muffin and scones. The sideboard includes a variety of jams, honey, cereals, yogurts and juices. The menu offers eggs, pancakes (listed as 'scotch pancakes'-see photo) bacon and the full English breakfast among others. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. When I asked for scrambled eggs and an English muffin (normally served on toast) it was a bit of a surprise to our English hosts, but they very gracefully acquiesced. The hotel has conservation measures in place. The waste basket in the room is for 'recycling only' while the basket in the bathroom is for 'trash'. You can also 'go green' meaning you reuse your towels and sheets and get a £3/day credit toward honor bar purchases. This saves water, and reduces the use of cleaning products. Love this option! The building itself is lovely. Wood paneling up the staircase if beautifully detailed. Crown molding, dressing table and seating areas in room, headboards and lighting. So many small, beautiful details. One item to note, there is no elevator in this building. Ground floor is reception and breakfast room (and kitchen). First floor up is four rooms with another four rooms on the second floor up. Be sure you can carry your luggage up the stairs when staying here. There is a bus stop very close to the hotel making it easy to get to and from the city center or take a half hour walk. On the way to town it's down hill, making the way back an up hill journey. If you drive to town, there is a car park near Victoria Park. At the hotel, you can pay to reserve a parking spot behind the hotel, or park on the street. We opted to park on street and were able to find spots very close. The hotel is located in a neighborhood with a few pubs, restaurants and a nearby pizza place within a 15 minute walk or less. Our check out was very early in the morning - before breakfast was served. We spoke w/Tim the morning before, settling up our honor bar. He sent us a receipt, via email, before the end of the day. This hotel is a real bright spot in our trip to Bath. I am so happy we found Cranleigh.

This lovely bed and breakfast, far and away the most charming of our trip, made us want to forget the north of England and Scotland and stay in Bath, enjoying the beautiful city, but also the relaxing, welcoming and, well, beautiful Cranleigh house. The family who owns it is welcoming and affable, the food is delicious (just remember when they say pancakes, they really mean crepes), the showers hot and the rooms spectacular. The B & B is a bit out of the bustling down-town area. One could walk there in 1/2 an hour, but we drove into town and parked and walked from there. The bonus, of course, is that it is quiet and dark and easy to sleep, and more affordable than the B&Bs right in the middle of things. We definitely were happy with our decision. I already started planning our next trip back, and we will definitely stay longer next time!

I feel that some of the negative reviews must be people who are very sensitive or used to higher end accommodation. While this hotel is a budget hotel, it's perfectly serviceable with comfortable beds and linens. We didn't have any issues with noise, but admittedly aren't typically sensitive to that. The most recent review I can see on yelp for this hotel is 4 years old, so perhaps they have changed management since that time. I would stay again.

The idea of it did, but the place is a little depressing. It's a budget hotel for young people. The lobby has a bar, a pool table, and a small sitting area. It reminds me of a cheaper version of Nobu/Sobu hotels. The room is bar bones. Like a college dorm. No baths -- only stand up showers with a wet room feel. There is no distinction between the shower portion of the floor and rest. So once you take a shower the room is soaked. There only a few channels on the telly. Which was a bit of a bummer. The room service is interesting -- there are no phones, you whatsapp to get service. We texted down for towels and got them within 10 minutes. That was great. They also extended our check in and held our bags no charge. While it's not the the BEST hotel in the world. It's close to the train and is cheap. Depending on your lifestyle it may be amazing. But for me -- it was very meh.

My advice to you if you're looking for a nice afternoon tea in Bath is this: go around to some of…read morethe local independent bakeries and cafes and pick up everything you might like (some nice scones, biscuits, sandwiches, etc.; you could even get all of this at Waitrose or M&S), then head over to Tea In The Gardens (a coffee stand located at the Botanical Gardens in Royal Victoria Park), order a tea, and have a picnic outside. You could also bring tea/coffee from home and do this anywhere in the city really: the Royal Crescent, Sydney Gardens, Henrietta Park, Norfolk Crescent, Green Park, the Parade Gardens... Any of which would be a nicer experience than The Bath Priory. The staff here was rude from start to finish: we were openly snickered at multiple times, we were made fun of for our accents, we were blatantly ignored every time we tried to ask for the bill. When we had finally paid - after they accused me of my card not working (it was their wifi; we watched them accuse another table before us of the same thing) - we asked if we could walk the grounds like so many other people had: we were laughed at. Literally, just a chuckle from the host as they handed me my card and walked away. While I appreciate that they offer both a vegetarian afternoon tea menu AND a vegan afternoon tea menu (book ahead for those), we were left underwhelmed by the former option. There was nothing special about the cheese and pickle, egg mayonnaise, cucumber and crème fraiche, or tomato and balsamic sandwiches (any of which I could have gotten better elsewhere). The scones were overbaked and stodgy. The mango choux had an unpleasant aftertaste. The macrons were flavorless. We both agreed the seasonal strawberry tart was the most delicious and vibrant thing on the tower, but everything else - especially given that it was £48 per person - left *a lot* to be desired. Finally, while the tea options are extensive and supposedly unlimited... we never received more than our one tiny pot despite asking. This, for me, is a hard pass.
