    The Pig - Grounds

The room was beautiful with a large bathroom with roll top bath and monsoon shower, a four poster bed in the bedroom and a sitting room with a DVD player and log burning stove. It was the most perfect relaxing experience to recover from the excitement and stresses of planning a wedding. We were also treated to a complimentary English sparkling wine in our room congratulating us on our wedding. The pig grows and sources all of its food within a 25 mile radius and we could explore the beautiful gardens where all of the fruits, vegetables and herbs grow right outside our front door. If you wander a little further you can also visit the pigs, chickens, deer and more. The service is second to none, we rented DVDs from reception which come with complimentary popcorn, wandered around the grounds in complimentary wellies, played board games in the library and received the most luxurious massages in the potting shed treatment rooms in the gardens. We also had a gorgeous breakfast delivered to our room both mornings on a tray so big two people carried it to us. I have a dairy allergy and constantly find it difficult requesting or mentioning that I need dairy free items on menus but the Pig were brilliant, we had told them in advance and they had soya milk in the room for me and both nights at dinner mentioned that they were aware and could help me with anything on the menu before I even had to mention it. It's such a little detail but it makes all the difference to not have to feel anxious or inconvenient when eating out and I have to commend them for this brilliant service. The only fault was the wifi and Internet was pretty non existent. This was perfect for us and encouraged us even more to just switch off, relax and enjoy our time together but I can see how this could be a problem for some. I also 100% recommend trying their non alcoholic cocktails, they are so good you don't miss the alcohol at all, try the red bush!

I'm fascinated and intrigued by the whole pig concept and am the proud owner of the tomb like Pig book which I would highly recommend as an out and out damn good read. Dizzy expectations sky high and if I ever wanted to rate anywhere 20/20 this was it. Hunstrete House is a delightful Grade II listed building dating from 1820; a beautiful country pad that oozes character and charm. It became the Pig in 2016 when it was acquired by the impressive Robin Huston and became the 3rdaddition to the growing pig litter. Pre-dinner cocktails in the sumptuous and cosy log fired bar area were a treat and set the tone for what we hoped was to be a monumental and memorable evening. The first surprise was that the restaurant is, in fact, a conservatory and reminded me of an eatery in an upmarket garden centre which in itself is not such a bad thing but a tad underwhelming in the context of the rest of the building. The second surprise was the paucity of pork on the menu. We were anticipating a pig fest of chops, pulled pork, slow cooked belly, cheeks and perhaps a pork tomahawk steak. Nope, aside from a canape of piggy bits (chipolatas and crackling) the only other pork presence was a chargrilled loin on the main section. The blonde started with a pumpkin tart with raisins and coronation dressing which she declared was overly sweet and lacked enough balance from the, albeit lovely and light, tart pastry. She followed with oyster mushroom risotto, which was decent enough but, in her words, on a par with risotto's from Hello Fresh, with whom we subscribe (and which are good). I fared better with starter of lambs' liver and mushrooms on sourdough toast, beautiful but I could have done with one more slice of sourdough. The chargrilled pork loin was outstanding, succulent and cooked to perfection. Not enough red wine sauce and the accompanying neeps and crushed garlic potatoes were so so. We fancied a dessert but, in all honesty, struggled to pick anything from the rather unadventurous final act so we abstained and bowed out. Huston just so happened to be there the night we visited. A man oozing gravitas and presence with an impressive mane of long flowing locks putting me in mind of the Lion King stalking his culinary savannah. In his book, he lends a chapter to the importance of music when dining out and even suggests a failsafe playlist. I have to say the background beats were on the money and got the pair of us playing our own game of name that tune/artist. Sly and the Family Stone, the Staple Sisters, Canned Heat and Bowie belted out and had my foot tapping. Summing up this is a tricky one. It felt like we had been picked up in a Mercedes and driven to watch the national German Football team. All very solid, professional and beyond any real criticism. That's all well and good but when you were expecting a Ferrari to whizz you off to the Maracanã to watch Brazil in full 1970's majestic flow it all felt a bit flat. It lacked Rio fireworks, mama mia and samba. The Pigs have a cult like following so I'm off into hiding as I'll be charged with heresy and appear on their sacrilegious lynch list. Anyways it's my review so oink off. With an average Argentinian Pinot Gris at £39 the total bill came in at £157 including 12.5% service. Guests can expect to find superior facilities for what is essentially a budget-range hotel. The car park was ample, conveniently close to the hotel, and free. The reception staff throughout my stay were attentive and welcoming, without being contrived or strained. During check-in all necessary information was explained clearly and I was presented with several dining options. Bar snacks and pizza are available in the hotel and the nearby Filton Retail Park has numerous dining establishments (in addition to a pub next door to the hotel). At the time of my visit a promotion was available which entitled hotel guests to a 20% discount in the nearby Frankie & Benny's restaurant. A breakfast buffet was included in the rate and featured varied options to cater for most tastes. Continental and Full English items were available, in addition to various juices and hot beverages. The bar area in which breakfast was served benefitted from several large televisions showing the BBC News Channel and as I was travelling alone I took particularly comfort knowing there was something with which to keep myself occupied while dining. The bedroom was extremely clean and tidy, featuring contemporary furnishings with almost everything required for a short trip. A television with a DVD player would have been advantageous, but its absence is understandable considering the type of hotel. Wi-Fi was also included in the rate and although it could be intermittently slow it was highly appreciated. An option was available to upgrade the speed of Wi-Fi. A kettle was on a shelf tucked under the television with a range of tea and coffee options. The television was modern, large and featured all of the usual Freeview channels in addition to guest services. The bathroom, although small, was not cramped. Like the rest of the room, the bathroom was sparklingly clean and tidy. The double bed, although possibly a little cramped for two, was perfect for the lone traveller. The choice of both foam and feather pillows was convenient and the soft duvet was just the right tog for December temperatures. Throughout my visit the hotel was peaceful and quiet, and due to the comfortable environment I was completely satisfied with my quality of sleep. Air conditioning and heating was available and easily managed by the in-room controls, although I didn't leave it running for too long as it had a tendency to rattle. The sofa bed was a pleasing addition to this room and although I did not use it as a bed I can confirm the sofa part was comfortable and spacious. Of this particular type of hotel, this is the best I have had the pleasure of visiting. Due to the low price of my stay and the overall high quality of the facilities I would definitely stay again if necessary.

It's quite new and you can tell - the service is exceptional, the kind of exceptional you only get from somewhere that's still trying their hardest to impress, with none of the cynicism apparent in many other longer established luxury hotels. The architecture is awesome - externally it's stunning, a period building that oozes style. Inside has been decorated beautifully. It's a bit of a warren inside, I got lost on the way back from the gym, and ended up on my floor, but the opposite side. But it adds to the character. The rooms are gorgeous, big comfy beds, quirky chairs and classic touches. My bathroom was clean and modern, and very roomy. The aforementioned gym is well stocked with very modern equipment. A bit warm with no aircon that I could feel, but it's in one of the old bank vaults which weren't designed to be cool I guess! The spa looked amazing too - I didn't use it but was seriously tempted. The jacuzzi looked like bliss and the people in it at the time had beaming smiles, so I assume they were having a good time. Yet to try the cocktail bar or restaurant - if I do I'll update the review! Overall impressions are great, I'll absolutely be coming back here when I'm next down on business (or pleasure...)

After obtaining room key for 2-night stay realised been given a standard room (paid for Super room), Back to reception who advised "It's all we have left, hotel is severely overbooked and your lucky to even get a room! If you're not happy contact customer service". Room Key frequently stops working (5 times) security is poor with broken locks. Carpets Stained. Rooms VERY hot, open windows and woken at sunrise by the noise from flocks of seagulls feasting on the rubbish outside. Windows Overlook from apartments meaning you ned to keep curtains closed for any privacy. I have used Travelodge many times over the years, but this hotel should be condemned. Almost £400 for 2 two nights. Raised my concerns with Customer service, the delightful Paige offered me a refund of the difference in room price, nothing in respect of the issues. There are much more central hotels, including budget options, seriously AVOID this Hotel at all costs.

What I believe to be the carbon monoxide alarm was just exposed without a cover. Then when we came down for breakfast, we ended up spending nearly two hour from stepping into the dining hall to leaving. To begin with, we spent nearly 15 minutes for someone to finally attend to us. We kept requesting for cutlery 3 times before finally getting the right amount of cutlery as she kept going back and forth to the kitchen with a piece of cutlery or two. There was hardly anything in the kitchen, we kept asking for stuffs and the sad thing is, they kept bringing things in small bits as if we are the only one in the dining hall. We requested for vegetarian sausages and we were told 8 minutes wait but 15 minutes later we still waiting for the sausages. The coffee machine was broken and there was no coffee. Upon request, few sachets were brought to the dining hall, there were no juice and just one carton of apple juice was then brought out, and that's how it continued for the whole morning. Bear in mind that breakfast time was from 0800 until 1100 but we were there from around 0915 and had to have such an experience. I did hung the "Top Me Up" card on door handle all day and to my surprise, I walked into the Same filthy room as I left it in the morning. No cleaning, no coffee, no milk, no towels, nothing! On our second night, the fire alarm kept going off every few seconds from around 4am. The front desk stated that one of the guests had tampered with the alarm in their room that's why it's going off every 15 seconds but there isn't a thing they can do about it. Is that not the used of the fire panel? To pinpoint where the trip is coming from?? And to say I paid over £300 for such an experience is beyond me. I do not even feel I can recommend it to my worst enemy.
